In Fireforce Chris Cocks says the troopers preferred FALs and avoided SLRs and G3s, due to reliability. Probobally because the later were very worn out by the time he was around. Rhodesia was still getting new R1s until the end.
In the last couple years of the war frontline, elite units like RLI and RSAS used South African R1's. The L1A1s and G3s were relegated to reserve units. The L1A1s were left over from the colonial days and the G3s I assume were cobbled together from whatever they could find, I assume mostly Portuguese leftovers. Every time the debate comes up, both sides argue that theirs is more reliable, and say that's their main argument.

However, every in-depth or video review of the G3 explains how the roller-delayed blowback system is incredibly reliable, and almost never fails to feed or fire, no matter how much grit or muck the action is exposed to.

How can a gas system compete with that reliability? I thought the argument was ergonomics and recoil vs. reliability, but both sides say theirs is the reliable one without explanation or evidence.

So far, I'm inclined to lean towards G3 because the explanation of the roller-delayed blowback system makes more sense to me, but I'm open to more information. Thoughts?

Wrong, they grunts weren't cleaning their rifles well. It was shown in a later study that the Israeli grunts neglected their rifles in terms of cleaning it, hence the jamming. Same shit occurred with the M16 except the only difference is that they weren't issued cleaning kits and underwent dirty as shit ammunition

Yeah but I doubt whatever training they got was as in depth or as effective as the FAL training. They went from using a gun that was in use by their entire military to one that was relatively unfamiliar to them. It's not just a manual of arms thing. When a military uses a weapon the soldiers learn over time little tips and tricks to make it perform to its maximum and little things that help it to function better. The G3 wouldn't have had that same level of insight.

I prefer my PTR but just slightly over me DSA Stg kit build. It isn't a Voyager which makes a lot of difference to me. If I was looking at PTR vs Voyager series FAL I would go PTR 100%. I good garage built FAL is hard to beat.

Pretty much. I don't have personal experience with the Voyager series but have read enough reviews that are mixed to peg them as lesser quality than parts kits rifles. They aren't down at the bottom like the century FAL rifles.

If I'm going to spent over $1000 on a rifle it better have a solid track rifle. PTR has a very good reputation and has a lot of offerings for that sub thousand dollar price point.
