Oh forced diversity yaaaayyy, this is why we aren't on the moon or Mars.

Not because the moon and Mars are uninhabitable?

he never made it out of bootcamp. refusal to train because he realized he was "too smart for the Marines". If you are "too smart for the Marines" how the fuck did you end up signing a contract and showing up for bootcamp?

Irony.

Hello newfriend. No, thats not the reason were not on the Moon or Mars. The reason is actually due to the political climate post Apollo. With our dominance in space proven beyond a doubt, and the Soviet space funds depleted, we decided to set our sights on he Shuttle program, which was a piece of shit. We lacked the knowledge of long-term space habitation required for longer-term missions on the Moon or missions to Mars, and the Shuttle program was designed to in part alleviate that by providing a short-term launchable laboratory, as well as a partially reusable launcher that would make building a space station that would allow us to research seriously long-term effects of spaceflight on the human body. We never went back to the moon because space programs end up getting unpredictable funding, and our presidents seem to altefnate between wanting to go to the Moon and wanting to go to Mars, which are two misions with vastly different profiles.

That ain't true
The problem with the shuttle is in its dogshit design, which may have been political, but still I doubt congress forced them to build that piece of shit.
They could have picked a sane vehicle + sane development program, and we'd be on Callisto today

Blame the Air Force for the design, as part of their bid into the project was the ability for the shuttle to bring back a certain payload weight. This would have given them the option of retrieving our / stealing their satellites. Then the Air Force stepped out well past the point of redesign and the rest is history.

I read a cool story about how townies, students, and frat boys rushed to get their guns from their homes and cars to return fire at Whitman during the shooting.
>You will never lay down covering fire for cops during a school shooting with the surplus M1 Carbine you bought for $30 from a fucking catalog.

Yah you can find video footage of it but that tower was so fucking tall it was mostly all in vain, he had the perfect cover/concealed position. He was shooting from small grooves/slots in the structure, so even the people returning fire from a few hundred yards out were only hitting the structure itself and not getting him. Truly a man who knew WTF he was doing
He kind of looks like a pirate without a beard in this picture

fellow /k/ spacefags, what do you think about the idea of a small military research space station? Something with around 1/3rd the volume of the ISS, like pic related
