That, and never post in a qtddtot again. Always make your own thread so we're not shitted up constantly on the front page with /a/, /tv/ and /v/ bullshit.
Gun topics deserve their own threads above ANYTHING else on this board.

Would a Turkish Mauser bayonet fit on a German Mauser? And vice versa with a German bayonet? A friend has a (most likely) German Mauser and wants a bayonet for it, how specific do I have to get when looking for a bayonet? Also don't know Mauser model.

Can anyone read this rebate page and tell me that I should have known that 9mm was not an eligible caliber for the rebate?

I just bought 800 rounds of 9mm and only after I fill out the form does it say that 9mm is not eligible.

WTF, Winchester?

Any real reason I should get a 9mm Glock 17 Gen 4 over the Gen 3s? I've heard the Gen 3s are built better/more sturdy and the "enhanced" spring in the Gen 4 has no real benefit.
>>
>>33447812
No, it's retarded reaching. A lot of it is explainable as weird angles and photo resolution.
I've also seen a bunch of noguns faggots claiming the butterball with the WASR's stock was upside down, proving they'd never seen an AK in person.

Legitimate question:
Which is MORE unbelievable?
>a group of radical anarchists and socialists who believe in the violent overthrow of the state dropped what money they could scrape together on guns/were loaned guns by comrades that could afford it
>a group of radical anarchists and socialists who believe in the violent overthrow of the stars spend what money they could scrape together on overpriced toys to pose with

Fuck off with the Alex Jones bullshit and accept that maybe some of those people on the left actually mean the things they say.

>>
>>33447812
even airshits have separate receivers so it's just a shitty photo
>>
>>33447812
The photo is honestly too low quality to really make out such small details.

The suppressor of the dude on the left makes me question strongly though. You don't just buy NFA items over night, and I just can't picture a turbo lefty having an NFA item just around.

Also the fact that Antifa people were literally passing around plans on their facebook groups to show up with airsoft guns in order to incite "over reactions" and play victim makes me think that is more likely than ultra lefties actually have fairly pricey firearms investments in those guns.
>>
>>33448115

Thoughts on the Winchester model 50? What's a reasonable price to get one for used if the condition's good, assuming it's a solid gun.
>>
>>33448143
I don't know much about it specifically but I do know that Winchester in general and particularly their shotguns have a good reputation as long as they weren't manufactured between 1965 and the early 80s (though when they became good again tends to vary depending on who you ask. Some say the 70s, some say the 90s).

.22 rimfire bolt rifles? What's the most reliable or accurate? Looking into CZ 452 but from what I've heard they're sorta uncommon since being discontinued and now they're CZ 455 which I've also heard aren't as reliable.
>>
Can someone explain the federal restrictions on shotgun size? Is barrel length restricted, or only overall length? If the gun is collapsible, is the collapsed length restricted? Are these restrictions applied to rifles as well, or are they specific to shotguns? Anything else I should know?
>>
>>33448573
There, is nothing particularly unreliable about the 455 rifles. Just fudds being fudds.
>>
What is a Fudd, and what are some common traits?
>>
>>33448573

>Can someone explain the federal restrictions on shotgun size? Is barrel length restricted, or only overall length?
Both are restricted.
OAL has to be >26"
Barrel length has to be >18"

>If the gun is collapsible, is the collapsed length restricted?
Yes, needs to be >26" OAL period.
>Are these restrictions applied to rifles as well, or are they specific to shotguns?
Yes but with rifles the barrel must be >16"

>Anything else I should know?
Hoooo boy. The NFA is dumb as fuck basically.

>Smoothbore barrel, manufactured with a stock
Shotgun. >18" barrel, >26" OAL
>Rifled barrel manufactured with a stock
See above
>Smoothbore barrel, manfactured without a stock but with an OAL >26"
Firearm, >26" OAL, ironically this applies to Mossberg 500 Cruisers, meaning as lonf as the OAL is >26", it can have a barrel <18"
BUT if you ever put a stock on it it is now permanently a shotgun and is subject to the barrel restriction
>Rifled barrel manufactured without a stock
Pistol, can be as short as you want but you can't put a stock on it
There are also Destructive Devices and Any Other Weapons which are big catch-all categories for stuff that slips through the cracks.
Silencers and automatic weapons are also in there

I don't plan on proofreading this so if anybody spots a mistake feel free to correct.

Are there any magazines I can use for a p-83 other than trimmed makarov magazines? Hi point magazines were too wide, bersa/ppk magazines were too short. Are there any other single stack 380 magazines (maybe a extended ppk magazine) that I could try?
>>
>>33448908
>needs to 26" oal period
I was under the impression that anything with a collapsing/folding stock was measured with such a device at its full extension. Also if the gun isn't fireable in its smaller form ( ala keltec sub2k or takedown), nothing about OAL applies.
>>
>>33449082
You know, now that you mention it I'm not sure and I don't know if ATF rules specify whether or not they measure with a stock open or folded.

I just measured and my unfolder AK and it's exactly 26" folded, which I guess tells us exactly nothing...
>>
>>33447940
>I've heard the Gen 3s are built better/more sturdy

nonsense

> the "enhanced" spring in the Gen 4 has no real benefit.

Eh, maybe true. But the better texture of the gen4, the larger mag release, and interchangable backstraps (if you care) give the gen4 an edge over the gen3. But either one is good.
>>
>>33449165
I remember it came up in another thread awhile back and I tried to corroborate it using other forums and I came up mostly empty( most erred on the side of caution, some swore it was measured extended). And the measurement restrictions were fairly difficult to find on the atf website.

The text of the NFA doesn't specify that though. It's just the way the BATFE does it currently. In fact multiple state governments measure the gun collapsed to determine legality.
Basically all it takes is them deciding to change procedure and dead doggos for days.

Should I sell my shotgun?
I bought a 200$ 870 clone out of hype more than anything, and because I was excited to get my first long gun. I told myself I'd set it up for home defense but I live in a small apartment and due to the recoil/blast/risk of stray pellets, I'd just grab my pistol for any HD scenario.
And for SHTF, which is remote anyway, I'd rather use a rifle for defense and a .22 for small game.

Did I fuck up? Should I cut my losses and sell the shotgun/ammo for a rifle and ammo? Or keep the shotty since I already have it and only spent $200?
>>
>>33449835
Every firearms enthusiast should own at least one shotgun. It was $200 fucking dollars and you will get less than that back if you try to sell it.

I dunno, but I would consider low ready to be brandishing. You can raise the barrel and start squeezing off rounds in under a second. I don't think the police would tolerate a person walking around with a handgun unholstered and in their hands, I'm not sure why this is acceptable.
>>
I want to get a Makarov but unsure what I should be looking for? What's a good price range? Anything else that I should look for?
>>
>>33449979
no. just a tip about gb, make sure you read carefully and look over the pics carefully. sometimes a seller will say give a generic blanket "see pics for condition-make sure to ask before bidding" instead of just listing specifics like blemishes or condition issues.

Yes, I own a SAM7SF, an M92 PAP and used to own a Draco. The M92 PAP has WAY better build quality than the Draco. Sights are also a lot better.

Now that I think about it, my SAM7 is mostly a range queen. The M92 is what I always take hog hunting because I can fold the brace in while jumping inna Polaris/pickup to find more hogs. My M92 is pretty damn accurate out at 100 yards with irons alone.

If you do buy a PAP, I very highly recommend a brace or stock. Also, be sure to dremel or file your sight picture. I opened my 100 meter sight (lol there's a 100 m & 500 m flip sights; ignore the numbers) substantially and it's great for up close work.

Do it! You won't regret it! The price is steadily going up. Got mine last year for $450. If you can get it sub-$600 nowadays, pounce.
>>
>>33452472

Will a small-time gun store get annoyed if I call in daily to ask if a special order is in stock?

A friend hooked me up with a store that he's friendly with, and the owner got me a good deal on a new Glock 30SF, 2 mags and with free night sights for $520. He said It should have been in by Saturday or Monday. I called Yesterday and asked and he said "It should be in the next few days, Can I call you at this number when it comes in?" And he took my number.

I want to know if I should go to bed now, but I don't wanna get comfy only to be told it's in and I can get it. I work overnights and I'd like to be able to pick it up today or tomorrow, because from Thursday - April 5th I'll be almost unreachable

>>33457749
If you have an NFA item, you are required to have paperwork for it with you at all times. You need the serial associated with the stamp filled, or for the trust. You need to let the ATF know. Then again, IANAL, so double check all that.

Generally no; Turkish Mausers, whether Ottoman-contract or Republic-era rebuilds use the Model 1890-pattern bayonet lug; the German Mausers use the Model 1898-pattern bayonet lug.

The Turks did have a lot of German Gew.98, Kar.98a and Czech Vz.98/22 rifles that have M98-pattern bayonet lugs and they had M98-pattern bayonets to fit them. Need pictures of both bayonet and rifle to determine if they're compatible.

Both are probably not good first gun choices, but which should I buy for my first gun: Smith & Wesson M29 or a CZ Vz 58 (California version because I'm in California)?
>>
>>33460607
I can't speak in hard numbers but comparing pictures of the two mounted on M92s the Galil brace is longer, and looks comparable in length to a traditional triangle stock.

Since none of us would ever dream of shouldering such a weapon its utility as a stabilizing brace would depend on the length of your arm.

I went the opposite and got the pinned faux suppressor version.

While a real folder from a parts kit or something would be more ideal, this one is good enough for my needs. I think its a manticor folding stock, it just goes onto the flat pistol rear with two bolts.

Always start with a longarm.

I wouldn't get a stripper clip loaded fixed mag rifle as my first. Get something featureless instead. A pistol grip is far less valuable than a detachable magazine.

It's slightly cheaper, higher quality, and half the weight

I actually have the CNCWarrior stock, Stormwerks hinge and Krebs mounting block setup on my OPAP.

Is that one of the Atlantic carbines?

I mostly don't feel like dealing with the pinning and welding the fake can and potentially fucking it up.
All the pre-built options are stupid expensive IMO

Yep, just mounted onto the flat back.

Quality wise, I haven't had any issues. The rail they put onto the top cover is polymer, kinda let me down on that, but it seems to work fine so far. There's no side mount plate on the gun, and the irons aren't excessively canted. I barely had to adjust them when I got it.

>>33462911
pulling the trigger is not the only to discharge negligently
I watched my roommate put a hole in the drywall when he chambered a round after cleaning his .22 pistol, fingers nowhere near the trigger. I guess it was a really weak primer or a barely-stuck pin or it would have magdumped the whole thing.

Depends on what you mean by "break some laws."
>If you're a member of the community who doesn't like those laws and that's why you're violating them, free-association means you can leave whenever you want, because you had a voice in the process of making those rules and an ability to push to change them through the same processes that established them and instead chose to let them become law then broke them.
>If you're some dickhead rolling through violating the freedom, autonomy, or safety of members of the community then it's everyone's civic duty to put you up against a wall and put one through your dome.
It's not complicated.

New-production WASRs use beech with polyurethane finish.
Beech is a pretty common wood for gunstocks and especially "blond" wood. Birch is a really common wood for ComBloc guns as well.
I think the older Romy stuff is shellac over birch but I don't know for sure.

Why has Colt bothered grinding the bayonet lugs off their Commandos since the 60s? A bayonet lug on a 16" carbine or a <14.5" SBR is superfluous (unless you're going to mount a Remington MCS), but it seems like a step that they could skip.

Not nessesary, but not bad for an HD pistol. I use my CC pistol as my HD and it doesn't have a rail. I use the old FBI flashlight rest technique and it surprisingly works well (I tried it on static lanes and in a timed shoothouse).

If you use a shotgun or other long gun for HD, I would tell you to look into bayonet techniques abd practice a bit. I'm not saying to mount a bayonet, but learn the moves- a gun barrel jabbing somebody's face is almost as good as stabbing, and being able to do the moves keeps somebody from tackling you from around a corner and getting the upperhand from taking away your ability to shoot.

Having some plan for lighting and havingg light discipline is mire important than having a specific kind of gear.
>>
>>33466063
Those are some good points. What kind of flashlight do you use? I'm guessing you want something that's like 4 inches? The current flashlight I have now is roughly that but kind of thick to use for that technique I'd think, and it's not high on the lumens.

Who makes good flashlights for a reasonable price?

Thanks
>>
>>33466083
I use a Surefire that is brighter than the freakin' sun. But I also got a bunch of cheapo LED lights around and they seem fine.

Length of the light doesn't really matter for the resting technique. Just get something with a rear pushbutton.

That most self-defense shootings end in 2 shots is owed to the fact that bullets kill things, not because everyone only brings 2 bullets.
One-stop shot capability is only a single factor in choosing a carry handgun. Size, recoil, comfort, how often you can practice, cost of practice ammo, and more all play a much larger role in an effective carry gun selection, since all of these determine how well you will be able to manipulate your carry piece.
I'd take any calibre I can effectively pull off a Mozambique Drill with, consistently

I've been learning more about the operation of various guns, but there's only so much I can figure out by watching animations online. I don't want to ruin stuff I already own, so what's a cheap but fairly complex firearm I can buy to take apart and put back together? I've got a set of decent screwdrivers as well as punches, brass hammer, etc.

Right now I'm looking at post-64 Winchester 94s, as they are common and cheap. Another are old Browning Auto-5s. Whatever it is, I'll look for things in NRA fair to good so I don't screw up anything nice or rare.

>>33469766
It's possible assuming you can prove it with paperwork. Unfortunately by the time you were done with the import procedure it would cost as much as the ones in the US.

How many rounds do they shoot at the factory?
I just bought a new LCP2 and the barrel is dirty like its been shot a lot, and the firing pin block face has brass remnants and stains like its been fired a lot.

Am I just being overly critical?
The buying experience from this particular shop has been pretty bad.

Depends on the company. Some shoot a full mag or two, some shoot only 3-5 rounds.

I turned 21 a few months back and am looking at buying my first firearm this summer, should I buy a ccw or an ar first? I want both but being a college student can't justifiably buy both right away. Thinking about it some more, I think the ccw would be the best right now. I'll be living in a comfy college town apartment for the next year and half, but I would feel a lot better starting to train with a handgun now since I don't have as much experience as with long guns. Plus I still live with my parents when I'm away from school, and they're not too keen on "assault rifles" despite my Dad being pretty into collecting WWII rifles and shooting in general.

Think I'll go with the ccw first and get an ar after graduation. I definitely understand the longarm first sentiment but without a home or family of my own to defend yet I feel like something to protect my person is more important right now.

>>33482239
10/22's are pretty cool and I'd love to get one eventually, but we've got plenty of bolt-action .22's at home for varmints and plinking, and I'm pretty well acquainted with long guns thanks to Pops, so I'd rather put the money into more ammo for practicing with a ccw than buying another firearm.

Thanks for the responses guys, I've been thinking about this a lot lately and it's great to have some input.

>Do it! You won't regret it! The price is steadily going up. Got mine last year for $450. If you can get it sub-$600 nowadays, pounce.

This is wrong.
M92's get imported ONCE a year. Zastava send a huge fucking batch stateside and they are divvied up from there.
The import them around October to cash in on the big firearms buying holidays. The reason the price goes up the rest of the year is because everyones stock gets low and nowbody has them for "X" more amount of months.

>>33482853
Not necessarily saying I don't believe you, mind.

It would make more sense to me that Atlantic orders one batch of M92s/year and parcels them out through the year, rather than Zastava sending one bulk shipment to the US/year that all vendors parcel out, which was my read on your post.
I'd guess that at least part of it is just the general price creep of SlavShit the last five years.

If it's your first gun just get an SKS or something, M1 carbine is pretty much a meme with their excessive price and special snowflake ammo for what is essentially an 80 year old pistol calibre carbine. I can't imagine wanting one for anything besides collecting, and at that price I can't imagine wanting a new-production one at all. I totally understand not wanting an AR/AK; I think an SKS perfectly captures the fun and "feel" of an old-school wooden stock gun while being cheap to buy and shoot. The yugos are ~$450 fresh out of cosmoline and they'll never get any cheaper, there's no reason not to own one.

Noguns with an interest in gun design, because reasons.

For a given commonly used calibre (eg. .223 or .308), how standardised are the barrel thread sizes, especially on manual actions like a bolt action rifle?

I get the impression that there is no one standard, but are there just a few different ones (eg. most American receivers would have X type, most European receivers have Y type, maybe Sako and Tikka have Z type)? Or are they literally different across all brands, and perhaps even models?

Note: not really interested in barrels for gas-operated actions, because reasons, although I imagine AR/AK platform barrels are more standardised generally.

Per manufacturer and model, probably, but my experience is limited. I've only built one and it was a "small ring" surplus Mauser receiver that I bought a new barrel for.

And AR barrels are slip fit, then a barrel nut tightens against the threads on the outside of the receiver. AK barrels are pressed in and then pinned.

Unless you mean muzzle threads for flash hiders, brakes, or suppressors. Those are pretty standard.

Anything you can buy from a reputable dealer with no obvious quality control issues (so Marlin, Remington and Taurus of certain timeframes are out the window) is going to be "rugged" enough that it shouldn't break.

As for what you should buy, without knowing what you're actually intending to use it for it's hard to say. For a general arsenal I'd recommend either a 12ga (an older Remington 870 or modern Mossberg) or an AR\AK pattern rifle of decent quality. If you want to tacticool it out go for an AR.
