I personally prefer a longsword that isn't too long, so can be worn easier.
Maybe a sabre with a simple guard so it takes up less space.

I dont own guns, I own 10 swords + knives etc. and maybe here in Europe a sword would serve me well when (if) SHTF, but in the USA there is 0 use, since youd need a pretty well maintained sword to cut through all those layers of fat.

A chopper like the ESEE Junglas, or a tomahawk like the RMJ are the best choices.
