So has anyone dealt with these? How bad are the cracks? Worth getting for the price or no?
>>
Depends on how much it's going for and how much the replacement stock is going to cost, if you're intending on firing it and not making it into a wall hanger.

>nearly $300 for a beat to shit fucking Mosin with broken furniture

It's a $100 rifle for fuck sake, the prices have gotten ridiculous over the last few years.
>>

>$300
lol no
>>
>>33437034
what the fuck are you on about.
m91/30s start at $250.
m39s start at $500 at least.
>>
>>33437060
>the prices have gotten ridiculous over the last few years.

ANY mosin is a $100 rifle
>>
>>33437034
Inflation and surplus is drying up or being sold off to other countries.
What was once a $50 rifle is now $250+

Ok buddy. I'm sure the cell phone is just a fad too.

>ANY mosin is a $100 rifle

Agreed. Just because the /k/inderkommandos went on a buying frenzy and drove up the price, it did not make them worth any more than the value of scrap iron and firewood.

Tard.

"X ought to cost Y" is a delusion of communists and old people. That's not how economics works. There is no right to having prices stay what they were in the good old days. X costs whatever the market will bear. In 2007, the market would bear $75 for a Mosin; in 2017, the market will bear $300 for a Mosin. That's life.
>>
I bought one OP. Its pretty nice but when they say cracked they mean cracked to high hell. Its really nice and it came with what I assume to be the issue paper with some finnish writing and a small target.
>>
>>33437466
Mine is being delivered to my FFL tomorrow. Is it just one crack or multiple? In your case, is your crack on the tang?
>>
>>33436605
I got mine for 100 dollars in great condition at a gun show. M39s shoot very well for a surplus rifle. I've never bought any from Classic Firearms though.

I just picked up a sako manufactured m39 from classic. It has about 40% of its finish left. I'll post some pictures of the cracks in the upper handguard.

The cracks pull apart with some pressure. Nothing some wood glue can't fix.

What grade did you get? I got an "Excellent" condition cracked stock M39 and was pretty happy with it, even though I knew it was risky.
>>
>>33438175
Wood glue is a fucking terrible repair. It doesn't take recoil worth shit. Use epoxy.

Also, for anyone who is interested, I found a leaf caked on the magazine when I took it apart. The internals were covered in gunk, rotting grass, and the like.

Uh huh. Let me guess, they made 200 gorrillian right?

Thanks for the heads up. I know shit about woodworking and my friend who "does" recommend wood glue.

>>33438186
Very good because my autism wanted a sako and they were out of the excellent grade. The finish is worn with about 40% remaining. However, the bore is bright with pretty good rifling.
>>
>>33438184
The guy didn't know what he had. I kinda felt bad.
>>
>>33438252
Yeah the excellent grade rifles sold out pretty quickly, but at least the bore is good.

I have repaired many cracked stocks. If you use a good quality wood glue (Titebond II is my go-to), stuff the crack full and clamp it well until cured, the cracked area will actually end up stronger than the surrounding wood.

I have a rubber mallet that I glued the handle back in this way, and I have hammered it hard enough to crack 3/4" plywood... that crack is indestructible.

No, you're just too dumb to understand so I'll simplify it for you.

Limited, finite supply+increased demand= higher prices.
>But they made billions of them!
And most were destroyed, or lost, or already bought up. That's the story of every milsurp rifle.

Also I got one of these on the way, should be here tomorrow. Anyone else got pics of what to expect?

Most people who have reported on them have been happy. Fwiw the fat guy who makes their vids has declared that the cracks will not interfere with shootability but I wouldn't take it as gospel.
Ive been tempted to pick one up myself as it's a very good buy in the current market if you only get a minor crack, but I already have a rather nice M39.

Wood glue is fine anywhere except the tang.

Honestly though, the best way to do it is to use brass pins or dowel sections for an arsenal-style repair. It's mostly a matter of effort more than skill - it takes a good amount of effort in stripping, drilling, epoxying, trimming, and refinishing, but you'd get an appropriate type of repair if you're aiming for historical authenticity.

Alternatively, do it US-style and use a brass pin or screw, like they used to on Springfields, Garands, and M14s. In the simplest form of this, spread the crack enough to get some thin glue to wick into it (super glue is fine for this), clamp it tight, drill a small pilot hole, drive a brass screw in, and grind the head off. If you're a real stickler for keeping it hidden, you can use a dremel with a small grinding tip to sink the pin into the stock a bit, and hide it with some wood putty.

Thanks for the info. I'm the anon who posted the pictures of the upper handguard. I'm thinking I'm just going to use Titebond II and then sand it down.

>take it out and shoot it, fuck the gunsmith.

kek, Not as many nuggetfags posting, I wonder if they came to their senses, or are wearing a bolt where their optical orbit used to be.
