I'm 22, almost 23, and was thinking about rotc to finish up my mechanical engineering degree. I had to drop out because of financial issues and bad grades (from working so fucking much), and I was hoping the military could help solve both those issues. Is that a possibility? Am I too old? Are my past grades a disqualified for even being considered?

Talk to a recruiter. You should still be good. Depends on which branch you want to join they have different age cut off dates.
>>
>>33433007
>too lazy to look up the max age to join the military
As long as you're not some fatbody you should be fine.
>>
Do you really want to be in a management position where everyone younger than you is a shithead, everyone your age looks at you with disdain because you're fresh out of school and they've been doing their jobs while you played Xbox and fucked girls in school, and everyone older than you just sees another little shit they have to teach because you didn't learn jack shit in school?

Cause if so you don't need the military for that.

>enlisted
You shouldn't be older than 18 if you are freshly entering the enlisted corps. You will be surrounded by child shits worried about childish things,

>officer
22 to 24 is perfectly fine

This post reeks of inferiority complex. Just because you wasted a few years of your life on honor guard duty with a bunch of short Mexicans doesn't mean the OP should waste his.

Enjoy your career path to E-7, my hurt-feelings friend.
>>
I had a man in my flight who was 39 years old, you're fine
>>
When you're old enough to realize how stupid it is you're too old.
>>
>>33433007
I think 27 years is the max for regular recruits, but you can certainly get waivers for just about anything. I went to basic with a 35yo.
>>
>>33433218
>You shouldn't be older than 18 if you are freshly entering the enlisted corps.

Nah. I think 22-23 is probably the oldest recommended age. But a lot of it depends on how long you've been adulting: If you been on your own since you were 16 and enlist when you're 21, you'd probably have a mental hurdle of being told what to do by a Staff Sergeant who isn't even old enough to buy alcohol.

Military budget 16% of federal budget.

Social Security and Medicare is nearly 60% of the budget.
>>
>>33433225
society should weigh the benefits of keeping his fat, diabetic, infectious ass around and alive vs what it costs and ask ourselves, do we need another youtuber for that price? this isn't somebody teaching algebra and calculus on youtube, he screams at things
>>
>>33433182
>everyone your age looks at you with disdain because you're fresh out of school and they've been doing their jobs while you played Xbox and fucked girls in school,

But I worked full time in school. It's the biggest reason I had poor grades and dropped out.

>>33433218
I'd definitely go officer.

>>33433542
Social security should be removed anyways. Fuck old people getting free money after retiring at 55.
>>
>>33433542

>be a complete faggot
>post pie chart of only the discretionary budget without the context of the entire federal budget

I was in with a 28 year old enlisted who already had a college degree.

That was 8 years ago. He's honestly one of the most successful Marines I knew. When I was getting out, he was submitting an officer's package and gearing up for OCS.

Last I checked, he was a 1stLt. Wouldn't surprise me if he was a Capt. by now.

So, in short, it's all on you, OP.

I had a 35 year old with me in basic, it was hard on him but he managed. I'm 32 now and would care to reenlist even if I could. 22 is a good age though.

"Social Security should be removed"

You Americans are the weirdest thing ever. What about social security for veterans? I swear, every American that advocates for no social security should enjoy the fangs of poverty before saying such gibberish.
>>
>>33436102
Fuck you and fuck social security. You dont have a strong grasp on freedom, but here in america we would rather control the investment of our money rather than give it to the government to invest for us. By the time i reach 65 there will be no money in SS to give me. You shouldnt rely on the government for your retirement unless you are a lazy socialist cuck. Ive been in poverty all my childhood. Now im working a job that gives me full insurance and pays for school, and it accepts bottom of the barrel employees.
I have no sympathy for the homeless, poor, old, or poor homeless old people. Stop being lazy and work a fucking job and put money back.
>>
>>33433007
I'm fairly certain that 30 is the cutoff for ROTC commissions
>>
I'm 25 and considering joining the coast guard this summer, I would probably be 26 by then. Bad idea?

Lol. Poor young boy, poor young boy, so angry and naive....

You just don't know what you don't know. Live, see how the world works, then speak. At 22 you know nothing and have seen nothing. But maybe you are already too far gone, who knows.
>>
>>33433007
If you want to go to a service academy you have to enter before you're 24th birthday. Otherwise enlist and do your college online during your free time. You'll get credit for whatever college you've completed too.

I was in iraq in 2007 and met a 60 year old specialist in the national guard. Also attached to infantry units there are dudes in there mid 30's rocking private rank being yelled at by 23 year old Sgt's to pay their bills.

Your early to mid 20's is the usual age. Just do it faggot. I did ten years and I loved it.

If you go enlisted you will be fine. Just try to go to basic in the winter time so you won't come in with all the fresh high school grads. Plenty of people join at older ages and to be completely honest you aren't even that old at all.

Grades may hurt you if you are trying for an ROTC scholarship.

Merican here.
>Felt the dregs of poverty
>homeless, and owned nothing but the stuff in my backpack
>I knew precisely why I was in that position
>drank too much, no job and alienated friends
>Stopped doing dumb shit
>learn basic construction skills
>pay for college
>learn computer skills
>profit
>all the while becoming increasingly capitalist to the point where I now become aroused when someone mentions Adam Smith
>Social security is a disaster, as are almost all government programs.
You shouldn't talk about that which you know nothing of.

According to the stick on /pol/ this could be a blend of black-or-white and composition/division
