I live in California and have a medical condition that takes up a lot of my income. Once I get this all dealt with (it's a lot of money at first with surgeries and all, but then afterwards it will just be maintenance and checkups unless it flares up again), then maybe I'll have enough discretionary income to buy some guns.

I used to be no guns when i started browsing k a few years back after i migrated here due to /pol/ harbor. I was no guns because of felony charge but ended up getting my rights back

My dad never believed in guns (his philosophy is "if you have something, you'll use it) ... and we've never had a need for guns (thankfully). Never even fired a gun before.

Expensive, generally highly regulated nofun situation, have to go to a gunclub and get a hunting license. And then i have to get lucky trying to convince the police chief i actually need guns.

Lot of trouble, but i'll go through it once i move out of the urban hellscape.

I can relate to this, there are so many great options differing in aesthetics, feel in the hand, quality control, etc. I got around caring too much by buying the most common utilitarian of each class with the rationale that a proven weapon that one could always buy parts/ammo for is the best first and gives you reason to keep it as you buy for each niche later.

I know Illinois makes you get an ID card (basically a license) to buy guns in-state. Costs $10 and takes a couple months for ISP to """process""" your paperwork and mail it to you. That's enough of a barrier of entry to keep a lot of people noguns.
