What makes a /k/ommando?

What got us into weapons to the point that we've essentially create a culture revolving around it on this board?

Can anyone be a /k/ommando or does it take a certain type of person?

Let me clarify that I know that the gun culture exists outside of this board, its just that our spin on it has evolved into something else entirely
>>
>>33426830
>What got us into weapons to the point that we've essentially create a culture revolving around it on this board?

Wait, are you shocked that we talk about guns on a gun related board?
>>
>>33426830
Probably some sort of mental illness.

Most likely gender dysphoria.
>>
>>33426927
I'm talking about what is it that got us here in the first place

You and I both know that the culture that grew from this board is pretty unique, it fascinates me how we've managed to cultivate it
>>
>>33426830
The Warrior Gene. Humans have always fought and in the society we live in nowadays where we no longer fight it is only natural that men will find a way to discuss martial matters in the way our ancestors discussed war stories around fires.
>>
I guess there are a few types. Plenty of overlap.

>/pol/acks - got into guns because that's what the alt right says is good or some shit. Will get triggered if you say nazis or racism is bad.
>/v/irgins - grew up playing cowadoody, fallout, resident evil, mgs, or whatever the fuck else, and got into guns because of vidya.
>weeaboos - got into guns because of their favorite chinese cartoons and/or mangas. Most likely to own dragon dildos.
>good ol' boy - literal oldfag who's way too old to be here and should probably be paying more attention to his wife and children. Grew up with guns. Most likely to be a fudd. I have no idea how or why they're on /k/.
>noguns - australians, europoors, and others from noguns countries who are here to argue about guns they've never seen in person and try to be epic trollz. Most likely to start threads asking which stick is best for personal defense.

Stick all these misfits and weirdos into a blender and you got yourself a /k/ommando. Defining characteristics are:
>hubris
>abrasiveness
>yellow fever
>alcoholism
>mild racism
>repressed homosexuality
>poor life choices
>high functioning undiagnosed autism
>>
>>33427008
>repressed homosexuality

>>
>>33426830
>What got us into weapons to the point that we've essentially create a culture revolving around it on this board?

I can't speak for /k/ as a collective, but for me it was video games, specifically starting with Goldeneye 007 on the N64. From there, Halo took over and furthered it. STALKER took it further, and my friend introducing me to airsoft and my uncle introducing me to actual firearms are what finalized it.

>>33427008
>>/v/irgins - grew up playing cowadoody, fallout, resident evil, mgs, or whatever the fuck else, and got into guns because of vidya.
THis is pretty much me.
>>
>>33426830
I'm an amoral, sociopath, egotistical nihilist

No I'm not being intentionally disparaging or edgy, that's truly my nature.
>>
>>33426830
One could argue that the board "culture" here really only tangentially relates to weaponry.
>>
>>33427008
You forgot the MilFags, even then they fall into their own categories

>POGs
>Grunts
>Treadheads
>Combat Veterans
>Stolen Valors
>Actual Operators

The last one is extremely rare

how do you know you have autism?

Serious question, that word gets thrown around here liberally but I don't think I've ever met an autist in my life

>inb4 you're the autist
>>
>>33427079
That is me too. And quite a lot of people for that matter.
We just like not giving a fuck
>>
>>33427517
autists have little or no social skills and they have obsessive personality. thats why im here, obsessed with weapons

>>33427517
I'm diagnosed and medicated.

The really funny part is I am more functional than large chunk of this board. Even off the meds.

It is kinda irritating that "autism" is through around as a catch-all term without anybody actually knowing what they are talking about. But I've gown desensitized to it.
>>
>>33427598
I almost got labelled as autistic by a psych, and they even had me go in for a bunch of testing. But I definitely think they're throwing around the autism label too much these days.
>>
>>33427342
Autists are the creamy center of /k/.

There aren't a lot of them, but the community wouldn't work without them.
>>
>>33427598
Well as long as you're functional I guess, my only problem is that I tend to sperg out a bit whenever I met someone who remotely shares my interest, besides that I can fake the funk pretty well, enough that I have a circle of friends

My intense interest in firearms, all things operator throw people off though, I don't know why but this hobby has become a real big part of my life
>>
>>33427517
I'm the guy who made the initial autism comment.

I know I have a form of it because:

>sensitive to light
>sensitive to sound
>sensitive to textures
>need even numbers
>need wholeness
>love to problem solve
>love symmetry
>confused by human emotion
>don't accept any of our shit reasoning
>terrified of everything not in my control
>demand control of every part of my life
>guns are literally my grounding element
>universe is infinitely expanding, hu8manity is a plague and I'm a passenger watching apes wreck the pale blue dot
>totally hyper empathetic to everyone's problems but hate them regardless

you really don't want me to go on.
>>
>>33427673
Jesus, really put it in perspective
>>
>>33427008

> oldfag
> I have no idea how or why they're on /k/.

Because what's the alternative? Arfcom? Fuck that.
>>
>>33427673
>universe is infinitely expanding, hu8manity is a plague and I'm a passenger watching apes wreck the pale blue dot
Is this trait unique to autistic people, or...
>>
>>33428256
Knocking on the door of 40, and I can confirm. I've got nothing in common with the arfcom crowd. Plus its more fun here, and ya'll have some insight that I find valuable.

Holy shit you guys I thought I was the only "gun internet hobo"

ARFcom and everywhere else is a shithole, /k/ is my home for the last 8 years because despite it whipping my ass like a bitch it's the only love I've ever had.
>>
between boy scouts, vidya and hunting it was probably inevitable
>>
My psych profile

>greedy
>materialistic
>paranoid
>apathetic
>misanthropic
>sociopathic
>prefer impractical, snowflake guns
>wishaniggawould
>>
>>33426830
speakin for myself, I've had an intense interest in firearms and how the mechanics of them functioned since I was like 11, that came about from reading way too many cross-sectional books on fighter jets and tanks. Then later on reading Tom clancy books and Red Alert 2 got me into the miitary aspect of things.
I'm still mainly into guns though, something about controlled explosions and clockwork happeing all at once, inches from your face turns me on
always liked archery too, used to do pretty well at boy scout competitions, fancied myself a native american ranger with all the little shit i learned there
>>
>>33427673
Oh boy, here we go.
>sensitive to light - yes
>sensitive to sound - yes
>sensitive to textures - yes
>need even numbers - yes
>need wholeness - yes?
>love to problem solve - Absolutely
>love symmetry - yes
The sensory issues aren't that bad anymore though.
>confused by human emotion - Not really, but confused about how much influence it has
>don't accept any of our shit reasoning - Only if it's truly shit reasoning
Those two go hand-in-hand
>terrified of everything not in my control - yes
>demand control of every part of my life - yes
Incidentally, I think this is why I'm into dominant/submissive stuff.
>guns are literally my grounding element
I tend to use firearm metaphors for fucking everything.
>universe is infinitely expanding, hu8manity is a plague and I'm a passenger watching apes wreck the pale blue dot
Not so much
>totally hyper empathetic to everyone's problems but hate them regardless

>tfw you went to college instead of joining the military like how you wanted to your whole life

>tfw if you enlist now youd be at the same rank youd be at if you joined at 18

>>33426941
There are a surprising number of trans/trap individuals on /k/ for some reason.
>>
>>33426830
Unlike the others, I come here to CONTAIN the stupid shit I say and do.

I used to be autistic 100% of the time (in the sense it's usually used in here, not literally, at least probably)
Then I came to /k/ and I became noticeably more sociable and happy all around.

As for what got me into guns, I was a skittish kid growing up combined with a fascination with machines and history.

It kinda overlapped all three and when my cousin showed me how to field strip an AR, I knew guns were my hobby.

As for the rest, I got sick one year and decided to check out 4chan to pass the time.
/b/ was shit, and I didn't like most of the animu on /a/, and the other boards were a bit too slow for me.
If /o/ and /diy/ were a bit more active I'd post there more.
>>33427673
I meet none of the sensory shit except the textures.
The numbers are meh.
Shit reasoning truly needs to be shot to be shit.

That last one hits home.
I don't like it. But I do have it.
I guess I'm not autistic, or at least not very badly autistic.
>>33429524
Am I the ONLY fucker here whose father was absolute dogshit and had to have their mother teach them/help feed their hobby when they were young?

It seems like everyone here either loved their father or didn't have one because their mother was shit.
>>

STALKER took it further, and my friend introducing me to airsoft and my uncle introducing me to actual firearms are what finalized it.

Well, that's obviously a lot of it for me, since I didn't grow up around guns. I DID grow up playing paramedic and soldier and maybe cop and had toy weapons -- as in, all figurines and toy creatures had little toy weapons. This kind of thing wasn't encouraged or discouraged in my household.

You know why? Because it's natural, for males to be into these things and to play in this way. I loved learning about history and weaponry and the like and the only real influence there came from my grandfather (collector, hoarder, metal detector enthusiast) and vidya. This is just normal for the male brain, beyond that.

Now /k/ board culture? IDK.. I stay away from most of that but this board did get me into firearms and other than /k/, I didn't keep going on 4chan very long. But I browse this board daily

Parents were nogunz, but both grandfathers fought in WW2 and once I started playing video games I really thought they were cool. Was antigunz faggot for a while becasue I grew up in Connecticut. Browsed /k/ for a while and started to get into them more and one day said "fuck it, I'm 25 and can do whatever the fuck I want. I'm going to start shooting and buying these things" now I have 4

As for why I'm lowkey obsessed with them, I think they are cool. They are fun to shot and take apart and clean afterwards. I like having things that have a history connected to them, that are used in real life events, and most guns do have that.

I don't much care for socializing and people that much, I don't like the idea that some fuckhead can break into my house and I have to do what they want because some richfag politician said so. I spend most of my money and time on guns at this point.

My father is retired Special Forces here in the US, and so I grew up with a lot of Green Beret "uncles" and it almost just became expected of me to join when I got older too. Now I find myself finishing up my degree, then going Army right after I graduate uni.

That in combination with the fact that I grew up
>hunting
>skeet shooting (competitively)
>sporting clays
>trap shooting
>rifle and handgun shooting for fun
>going inna woods and getting in loves with scouts
I almost feel like I've been groomed to go SF my whole life. Papa Anon always had a strong emphasis on leadership (particularly servant leadership), language skills, and working with others. I found /k/ because I too like guns, and a lot of people here either are currently or are considering joining the service to go play GI Joe for a bit too.

Firearms get the same reaction from me as a piece of art. Now take a piece of art and make it a fashion statement, a tool, a weapon of war, a political talk piece, a sport, and a collectors item

That was about 4 years ago, I believe.

>>33426830
My interest in guns stemmed from vidiya and SHALL politics. I'm the son of a liberal and a conservative, and have fostered interests in aviation, rocketry, and building shit from the beginning. My interests led me rapidly up against an everything-I-want-to-do-is-illegal corner, and parental influence offered a broad platform from which to develop my own philosophies. They ended up, perhaps predictably, libertarian, with various periods of more traditional conservatism while I was growing up spurred in part by 9/11. There are a few landmarks.

>~7 years old, get a model rocket for Christmas. I'm hyped as fuck, and before even opening the rest of my presents insist we go off somewhere to launch it. We attempt this in an empty stadium parking lot and I'm seconds from launching when we get run off by a cop. For the first time in my life I felt real, directed anger.
>Further research would discover that model rocketry was actually almost completely illegal in Commiefornia
>Devastated, express animosity towards the government for the first time in my life.
>Between this and firework laws fucking with 4th of July, government gets placed firmly in my "them" pile before ten years old. I start to consider it predatory.
> ~10, Share a long road trip with father, discuss politics. Start to develop specific opinions
>13, Obama is elected. Father has never really been interested in guns before, but panic buys after a few trips to the range. Mother does not care for this. Father and I bond over the 2008 panic buy between gun stores and the range. Politicly spooky at the time, but I was 13 and didn't really remember the last election, especially since it was a reelection. Those years were comfy as fuck in retrospect. Mom later warms up to the idea, drifts low center on the spectrum.

Forgot my face apparently

Side note, also became fairly /sci/ but I only browse occasionally. Both my parents maintained some scientific interest, so I guess it followed. Watched a lot of documentaries both historical and scientific. Basically moved into watching exclusively documentaries as soon as I was through with the early childhood shit. Skipped the cartoon phase, though I regret missing Avatar when it was first out.

Still close to both parents. Distance kind of sucks, but w/e. Enjoying doing airplane shit and writefaggotry inna arctic. Strange set of social skills though. I have no trouble getting along with people A) on the internet, or B)much older than me. Not really sure how to deal with people my age. Still have some good friends though, just no gf.
