What is life like as a combat engineer in the Marines?

Designated "check if this will explode / make this explode guy"
Just like being infantry except with more heavy lifting and a slightly higher chance of exploding.
Join the Navy and be a Seabee instead.

Do you like digging?

Everyone loves digging. Especially in the rain. Or in desert hardpan. Or when the ground is frozen solid. Digging is the tits.

Just as gay as being in regular marines.
I've had mixed answers on this question before. What do corpsman do when no one is injured. Some tell me they're non-combatants and just stay out of the way. Others say they're no different from a muhreen. Also can a corpsman that scores well on the marksman test be issued a service rifle with any sort of optic past the standard?

Army combat engineers are pretty much this. No experience with the Marine side but I'd imagine its the same with more walking

LOL no
Just hope you don't get put into the bulk fuel MOS like all the rest of the overflow marines that wanted to be combat engineers too but the MOS had little vacancy to fill.

Phd in a game of mine sweeping
building smoke pits, asking HE to dig your fighting holes, setting up constantine wire

Lol, as a prior infantry medic, when I wasn't being a medic I was being a rifleman. I.e. landscaping, standing in the sun/cold, doing gay stuff while calling people who didn't join in fags, etc.

Pretty much this down range
If you're National Guard you can actually do your job state side. Everyone else paints rocks while contractors to everything, then get called lazy when the budget gets tight.
