How does /k/ feel about the leatherman MUT?
>>
Not a bad tool at all, I carry one at work (steel fabrication), my only bitch is the lack of a file. If you don't want to use the Molle pouch the clip on the bottle opener can hook it on a belt loop

They're cutters. You use them for cutting. Usually wire.
>>
>>33424251
Probably one of the more overpriced and gimmicky leathermen. It doesn't do enough to justify that price over a Wave or similar model.
>>
>>33424409

Ever tried the Wave TTi?

Getting a multitool and might spend the extra on getting the charge over the wave (for the S30V rather than 420) and if I'm spending that much on a tool and am getting into the gun hobby I might as well get the one designed for them. Does it make a difference?
>>
>>33424418

Wire cutters.
>>
>>33424455
thanks you are right. i am stupid :p
>>
>>33424474
>Wave TTi
Do you mean the Charge TTi? A wave tti would be lit AF though
>>
>>33424486
thxs!
>>
>>33424503

Whoops.
you are correct.

Even if you are getting into guns, the MUT is simply the cheaper Leatherman Multi-tools combined with a $10 gun tool kit. It would be much better to have a dedicated multi-tool on it's own, as well as a gun tool set. In lieu of a frankenstein-like combination of the two.

As for the Charge TTi vs Wave. I personally use the Wave as it was in my budget at the time, but I have used other's CTTi's and it certainly feels much stronger and secure than the Wave. Not putting down the Wave's survivability though. I've dropped it off a ~40 ft. drop and all these months later it still feels/works perfectly fine. As for Blade types, the 420hc on the Wave will hold an edge just fine. I've only had to sharpen mine twice in the few years of heavy use I've been giving it. The S30v on the Charge might be better for you if you either don't have access to sharpening tools or you need it for rougher work, as it'll hold up quite a while longer but it can be a bitch to bring back the edge.

Personally I would go for the Wave if you want a good, well-rounded, semi-budget multi-tool. If you have the dosh to spend the Charge TTi certainly won't disappoint you.
>>
>>33424474
No, didn't even know it was a thing but I'll give it a look
>>
>>33424418
Yeah they are replaceable. They will break tho ifnyoub try to cut something to thick.
>>
>>33424251
i like the idea of the carbon scraper but that's really all you get of value over a standard leatherman.

I don't need the punch tool, but I need a file, badly.
Also I'd prefer slot and hex screwdrivers over a phillips head.
>>
>>33424251
mine fixed AH-64D's for years.

hell i used to cut cables on conexs with it and its still gtg.

buy it its the strongest multitool ive ever had.

also get the extra bit sets, and the bit extension, its a life saver.
>>
>>33424418
>>33424433
those gerber are shit. every fuckin soldier in the army had one and they always wanted to borrow my leatherman because the gerber was such garbage.
>>
>>33428164
the channel locks might be hard to find...

but my leatherman mut can do all that. minus the "cutters" if you mean scissors.
>>
>>33424251
First MT? You'd probably be tickled by it.
Otherwise it is is an abomination that tries to be a gun maintainence tool and a MT at the same time.
>>
>>33428905
the punch tool is on the EOD version.

and you can buy the bit sets for the leatherman.

https://www.amazon.com/Leatherman-MOLLE-Sheath-Surge-Extender/dp/B010TLGSSW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1490506734&sr=8-3&keywords=leatherman+mut+accessories

this one is about $35 more than i bought mine for but just an example.

and about the file, i would just buy a small file, using a file on a multitool is never a good idea as a dedicated file.

I really want to get this stuff, I do, but $200 on a multitool and bits is too much when I can just buy the individual tools for $50

I bought one for my deployment, so far so good. I've used every thing, but the bottle opener, A LOT. I've cleaned weapons, repaired HMMVs, and even made shelving out of pallets with just the multi tool itself (the saw and hammer work well enough).

I'm pretty happy with the purchase, the hammer tool is the most useful thing besides the outboard knife. Often I find myself needing to pound or hammer on something. Hitting things too hard will cause you to lose bits, something to keep in mind when you use it as such.

The bolt over ride is a no go with an optic.

It meets my expectations regardless.

Honestly I think the Surge is the superior multi tool, if it had the ability to work as a hammer I probably wouldn't be carrying a MUT.
>>
>>33429325
hey man thats up to you. i didnt always have tones of room for tools when i worked in the field and this was really handy while i was in the army working.

>>33432168

Go with the wave and a bit kit every time. I've owned them all, gerbs, sogs, leathers but the wave is the perfect size with all the tools you need and none of the niche Shit you don't. Typically only boots fall for the "made for the military" meme.

Tldr; Wave + bitkit
