I have a Swedish Mauser M38 and around 3k 6.5 rounds stored.
I use my rifle for hunting and a bit of range fun now and then.
My friend wants to trade his Ruger Scout in 308 for my Swedish Mauser and the ammo.
Should I accept the offer? Is the Ruger better than my Mauser?
Don't do it!

Nah. I wouldn't. You can always buy a brand new Scout. You can't get a new M38

scout rifles are a shitty meme, that's why he wants to get rid of it

>Is the Ruger better than my Mauser?
Performance wise? Probably. In terms of market value though, no.

Do it, just to taste what a colossal mistake feels like

>Should I accept the offer?
No, the ammo alone is worth the price of the Ruger, especially if it's Swedish m/41 ball.
>Is the Ruger better than my Mauser?
Yes, but that's what comes of 100 years of materials science development and firearms design.
Better is subjective, it's stronger and made of better modern steel with modern heat treatment, it has better safety features and gas handling, it might be more accurate but in all honesty I bet a Swede with a scope would give it a damn good run for its money and might well beat it.
But the fit and finish on your Swede will almost certainly be better, everything is either milled steel or Beech and all very finely made. Swedish Mausers are beautiful.
