Well, we won the French and indian war, we won the Peninsular war (2nd time round we had nearly no defeats) and we won in the end against the Japs, and the UNI rebellion was defeated, and we won the first boer war, and the first world war etc etc etc

We have had some embarrassing defeats in battles but these are very few and we generally win more battles in campaigns than we lose, and win more wars than we lose

My Martini-Henry MkIV that was brought back from Afghanistan. It saw service in Pakistan, and was used by the Kyber Rifles. I put a Ross rifle rear sight on it for shooting the accurate.

The story of Gordon's demise is incredibly interesting and anyone with an interest in history should look it up. He told by parliament to evacuate, but pretended he didn't get the chance and just prepared the city for a siege from the Muslims. He wrote many letters asking for relief but despite his popular support in England parliament dragged their heels for months. Support eventually arrived, shortly after the city had been sacked and Gordon killed. He held out quite valiantly and stubbornly against the Islamists though. A man of rare character.
