Any /K/ers can help me identify this knife/Bayonet
I found at my granddads place, I think it's a bayonet from WW2, but I could use an "expert"
It is well and truly mauled. Could be German, British, Japanese... see if there are any markings left on the steel near the hilt.

All I see is the Number 499 on the blade.
The hilt does have a small plaque which might have held some marking, but if it ever did it's gone now.
Your finger's obscuring a vital part of the handle. But, in theory, the bayo could be one of these earlier ww2 german bayos.

Well, what's left of if conform as to being a bog standard German early ww2 model M1888/98 bayonet. When I say early war it might as well have been made slightly after the war, except they were wading in them at that point and didn't need more right then. No collector's value whatsoever. But if it was your granddaddys then clean it up and keep it. Cool heirloom.
