Bought a bubba'd sa93 today for 700, aready have all the deban parts except furniture on order.
First, howd I do?
Second, where can I find a milled bulgy bakelite poly set?
First for best combo
Is it normal that I would like two of the exact same rifle just to have one wear wood furniture and the other to have current issue polymer and 100 series folder?
>>33408417
>howd I do?
Not too bad.
>where can I find a milled bulgy bakelite poly set?
The "bubblegum" stock set?
>>33408455
Why not just swap out furniture when the mood strikes?
>>33408455
Nope. I want another WASR just so I can put a dong grip and folder on it and keep my 10/63 as is.
that century everyone hates
>tfw Molot VEPR1V/RPK74 never
Makes me wanna kill myself tbqhf (to be quite honest family)
>>33408455
>>33408553
>Nope.
I meant yes, it is normal.
>>33408446
Nope
>>33408455
You just want that sweet plum
>>33408562
Why wouldn't you just get an Arsenal?
>>33408541
Because when a rifle looks good and is outfitted with the furniture and sling etc you want, it's gay to have to just swap it. Also more likely to hog out the holes more on stock and have it loosen up and be shittier later when you pull the stuff off often. I want another 74 just in polymer.
>>33408587
Anybody here have on of those US Palm grips?
They look nice and I'm thinking about getting one to replace the MOE grip that came on my 107.
>>33408587
Get a fixed and a folder
Changing furniture on an AK isn't THAT bad. Try removing and putting back on FAL bipod legs when you wanna switch furniture, that shit sucks
>>33408559
>at the range
>still has the rubber thing on the charging handle
>>33408477
>bubblegum
Yes. Or some sweet hardwood.
>>33408646
Ak files. Does it have both tangs or do you have to weld another on?
I apologize for my ignorance, not familiar with that model.
>>33408639
Neck weld on a wire side folder. Bruh, why do you hate yourself?
>>33408585
Yes, buy a rifle that Arsenal doesn't make.
>>33408677
Its honestly not that bad, the eye relief is very forgiving.
>>33408706
Right, because what they make is better, you fucking idiot.
>>33408646
Found a set, although it says it doesn't have "metal" so I'm guessing you'd have to track down a buttplate and sling swivel.
That shouldn't be too difficult though.
>In theory anyway
Here's the stock set
https://www.northridgeinc.com/product-p/ak47-90.htm
Look at Desert Fox Sales for the buttplate and swivel, they might have them.
>sweet hardwood
RobertRTG has some milled stuff, most of it's OOS though.
Here's the milled section
http://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/AK47-Milled-Specific-c149.htm?pageStyle=h&ProdSort=3&page=4&idCategory=149&viewAll=yes
Hope that helps.
Enjoy the SA93.
>>33408665
I will have to rivet the lower tang. In addition i will have the barrel threaded, and replace gas block, front sight, and handguard retainer. then refinish the barrel and components. Pretty straight forward build. The only mystery left is finding the furniture.
>>33408738
Thanks. Whats up with the description on the bakelite poly? Black painted?
>>33408585
Because I want dat Molot cool factor and there's more hope for Molot bringing factory RPK74s into the US than Arsenal, but if Arsenal did I'd buy one
>>33408724
Holy shit calm down
>>33408779
Ah, I was looking at the EG description.
Yeah, a lot of times they painted the bakelite black.
No idea why.
Should be pretty easy to clean it up.
Mineral spirits won't hurt bakelite too much, but it will dry them out.
Would be a good idea to "restore" them after.

this rifle when I first got it before I put wood on. That grip is on my Vepr12 now. I actually like it a lot, pretty good grip imo.
>>33408621
I have a FAL, doing much anything on it sucks. I have a 106 triangle folder so I guess I can't complain, but I love wood and polymer both so it's like a constant struggle to not want one of the same rifle that sports each.
Is a WASR a nice entry level AK?
gunshop has 2 nice ones for $650
Everyone says theyre cheap but I cant find one for less.
>>33408990

>>33408639
What a shitty shooter
>>33408999
Far right on pic related. It's an Imbel. Still haven't fixed the trigger, it's broke atm unless I put in fse trigger, then it shoots full auto basically.
>>33409019
>Still haven't fixed the trigger
Oh fuck, that's right I remember you saying that. t b h after building my FAL lower the other week and spending a few hours handfitting all the parts I wouldn't even know where the problem is with that either, sounds strange as shit. The locking plate on my para lower is a bit oversized and caused the hammer to stay down sometimes though, so I had to file the shit out of it
I've got fuck all else to do if you wanna try and trouble shoot it tho

Hey friends! 308 ammo and 5.45 is sold. Thanks for the comments and concerns. ;)
>>33409041
I need to know if the us and Belgian fire selector are physically different. The selector puts the gun in "safe" in safe and semi, and lets the hammer just follow the bolt home in "auto" position
>>33409066
P.S. Sold for asking prices also.
>>33409070
Gay I didn't describe that well, the us selector does those things to a Belgian trigger group
>>33409066
>obligatory bakesrus
>>33409070
I'm 99% sure the selector in my Stg lower is US, specifically one of the old DSA ones with the lip to prevent it from going to FA, and I haven't noticed any different between it and my Belgian type A
But my parts were also from when DSA was a helluva lot more competent and they're working with Steyr machines and blueprinting, so I'm not sure if the FSE US made one could be different. It shouldn't be tho, wouldn't make sense to me
What all problems does the individual groups have?
What's the benefit to bolt hold open mags on the N-PAP Yugos? The bolt just falls closed when you pull it. Just a visual of empty gun?
>>33409086
I love you. LOLOLOL!!!
It will please you to know I am getting a root canal, crown, and other work for my fuck up. Allow me pain and money drain to bring you pleasure and joy.
Thank you for this wonderful gift!

>>33409066
He's back
>>33409109
I haven't laughed this hard in a long time.
>>33409092
Well I'm not exactly sure if the selector is Brazil or US, but it works with fse trigger, and will shoot semi and go into safe, but semi often makes it go auto if you just squeeze trigger and don't let go. I need to just get a hammer, trigger and selector from one known working rifle.
>>33409103
I don't care to see you in pain bro, but the hate people have for you on here is funny, and that cartoon had me dying at work a few days back. I have nothing against anyone in /akg/, I just love the bantz.
>>33409109
Well it worked out great, 10/10 man
>>33409086
I wonder how his stairs are holding up.
>tfw can't find a Maadi military stock
Got a couple of steel Izzys on the way though as well as a replacement sight leaf and spring. Soon I'll have better mags to go around than a PMAG AK and Worst Korean. Next month I'll have a gunsmith double check headspace and maybe unfuck the FSB cant if it's not terribly expensive, then it's off to the range at last.
>>33409127
I love all of the hate and the fact that someone spent any amount of time making that makes my night and fucking week.
>>33409113
I am like herpes, I may go away momentarily but I will always be back. =)
>>33409127
>will shoot semi and go into safe, but semi often makes it go auto
You sure your sear couldn't fucked and slipping too? gunthings can get you a trigger group on the cheap though
Would make more sense to me that the sear or a spring is fucky rather than the safety though, since the former are under spring pressure and the safety is just a solid block of metal. I'll have an extra sear assembly soon that I can send you before you buy a new trigger pack again
>>33409066
sell the 7.62x39 for that price and I'll be impressed
>>33409154
I fucked those stairs up...I am still standing they are laying down like a bitch.
Those stairs are widow makers, I am not the first to fall victim. Simply the latest.
>>33409170
>gunthings
What is this? I honestly would like to change every fucking thing in the lower/fcg. If someone can sell me everything and non gay us parts preferably, I'll pay them. I just hate that it's not as easy to buy stuff for these as it is AKs. I even have a falfiles account but the traffic is a tiny fraction of the traffic on akfiles.
>>33409179
What kind of laptop did you break?
Ahhhh I do admit I fucked up on the pricing on the Silver and Brown bear. I blame pain killers, prices not reflect what they should be.

Wewlad you are in for a fucking adventure. Brad at gunthings is basically the FAL Jesus for parts. He runs gunthings.com and sells a lot of stuff through there but he has a decent amount of unlisted shit too, super chill guy too. I emailed him when I needed a para FAL lower and he told me he had a few he'd sell. He also talked me through on most all the parts I'd need and things like that too
AR Fag here. Been looking into getting an AK but I don't know jackshit about them. What are the AKs to stay away from?
Hello friends.
What are your thoughts on this rifle? I've never owned an AK and I live in shitholistan California. My budget is up to 1k for the rifle itself.

Well thanks man, I'll definitely take a look at the site and hit him up. It's been a bummer that it hasn't shot right and I need to stop buying AK parts and AKs for a bit and buy some battle rifle stuff and get those the way I want them. I need a FAL Jesus in my life to fix this pile. Also, is wood on FAL the way to go?
>>33409244
Stay away from anything made by American hands.
>>33409268
All depends what you want. I love my wooden classic but my tactical FAL project has also been fuckin fun so far. Of course the real answer is to just do both
If you have the FAL on hand I'd recommend taking the lower all the way down and checking out your sear, the more I think about it the more it sounds like the problem

>>33409267
My thoughts too.
I paid out the ASS by the time I was done on gunbroker (bout 800 all together) but its pretty unique and I didnt want just a polish kit. The temptation to leave it with fun mode is pretty powerful though. I almost dont have the heart to modify that shit and just keep it a deep, dark secret.
>>33409267
>I've told OP it should be in the OP with a title for exactly this reason
I post it as the first post before I link the new thread in the old thread, but I do think I'll be adding a description to it going forward.

Eh could be worse. Broken non working macbook pro still sells for $400, HD from new comp is $100. Ends up being a $500ish upgrade to a more current 15" MBP Retina. The dental work is tear worthy however.
Lesson learned, albeit expensive.
>>33409280
I don't know why but I feel AKs as well as FAL and M1A share a lot in common in terms of feels. Maybe the way my FAL is setup and the trouble it's been thus far has unfairly made me not like it, but I love the M1A almost as much as I love AKs. I don't care if they are heavy or outdated, they just feel and shoot amazing. Maybe I'll just have to make the FAL right and then I'll feel about it the way I do the M1A.
>>33409328
You sell your b-west ?
>>33409341
I feel like if nothing else the FAL market is pretty damn similar to the AK. And they do share a similar history

And?
>>33409052

>:/
>>33409292
Wait, Daewoo, is this something you'd recommend. I would get an Arsenal but I'd like something unique and not shitty
>>33409346
No the ammo dump and another clearance this weekend will cover what I need with luck. The B-west is a cherry on top of a cake I already will own. I am keeping a Sig 556R XI 7.62 in lieu of the B-West + Bake Folder Set.
I have this being built which will make me a happy guy.
I have had a number of offers under my number but if I become desperate my pricing will reflect it.
>>33409309
Pretty much. I could just get an aftermarket receiver and extra bolt though from what I understand and do it with those. Except then theres still the felonious siren call of that au naturale receiver and bolt Id have around.

True mostly because I'm the one posting it, but I also kind of like it to be it's own post so it can be referred to apart from the OP.

As I explained it to the author of the pastebin, since I didn't write it and have no control over it being updated, it stays out of the OP.
>For now
I could stop posting it as the first post and we'll see how long it gets posted.
That's what I did ~2 years ago when the last pastebin was tried out, and it died within a few threads.
That said, this one has a much better chance because the guy who wrote it is a regular, but it's still makes me hesitant to add it to the OP.
I'm not trying to be an ass, but I've been posting /akg/ since it's inception.
>(With plenty of help from you guys when I can't start a new one in time)
It's still here, despite a lack of a pastebin for the first ~450 threads.
It'll be fine without it in the OP.
>>33409711
I would suggest to keep posting it in the first post but with a title like the other anon said. If the author suddenly dies, just copy paste that shit into a new pastebin you or someone else creates and post that

As far as I know the stock of an RPKS and an RPKS-74 are the same. Supposedly there is a difference in the trunnions but I don't know what it is. It's worth slightly more due to having an actual issued stock in addition to a replacement stock. Most loose RPKS stocks you see are undrilled replacement stocks. If you're working on a well done RPKS-74 then $700 isn't too much for what it is.
>>33410787
>One of those folding stocks is up for $700 on GB
That seems insane to me. I wouldn't pay 700 bucks for sling points that distribute the weight awkwardly vs the normal spots.
Yeah, the folder is cool, but I don't think it makes the gun better overall. Folded or not, it's still a fairly long gun, and it's not like it's a vz58 folder that folds and unfolds in a fast way that would warrant the extra dough for me personally. Most AK folders, maybe some wire folders excluded, are pretty meh from my experience, slow transitions. You have to baby them from start to finish.

I have one already, just need to pull it from my saiga.

My saiga had a g2, i put that in until i can snag a bulgy, or other surplus group.

newfag here. I read the pastebin and was looking at getting a Vepr FM as my first AK. My only concern so far is iv read that it will not accept standard furniture, is this the case? if so is there any recommended furniture for the gun or anything else I should consider before purchaseing?
>tfw have to sell AK to pay bills
>>33412217
You'd have to track down rpk handguards for it.
I'm less sure about the buttstock. That may be more standard.
>>33412236
thanks anon, what do you think of the gun otherwise?
>>33412264
>do you think of the gun otherwise?
I think I'd rather have an slr-107. Veprs, while nice, are overweight.
I think that you'd be much better served with modern ak-74 style features.
>>33412221
What are you selling? :-(

Not that guy, but you won't be able to tell the difference between 60 rounds and 600 rounds. Its an AK, such low round counts are irrelevant. But look out for good rivets, canted barrel components, and overall just finger fuck it and get a good feel for it. And welcome to the club nigga!

Let them learn the hard way. Either they're too casual of a shooter (which they obviously are cause they can't research on their own without being spoon fed answers) to never rack up a round count high enough to notice deformations or Darwinism will kick and cleanse the gene pool.
>>33412736
No. Fuck you, that just means that they'll come back after buying it and ask what they should buy instead after realizing they fucked up (which is what has happened multiple times at this point)

>tfw we'll never have a BFS/Echo trigger style trigger pack for the AK
It kills me even more because there's so much room in the AK receiver to do that with, it's not like an AR-15 where everything is all cramped, you have like twice the amount of space to fit the whole mechanism in.

>>33413017
Here's your guide to building your first AK:
>Spend a few hundred on a nice AK kit
>If it didn't come with a barrel that matches, order one, send back the first one they sent you, because it was probably wrong, then they'll send you one you can use
>Order a receiver
>Get it in 6 months
>Realize that you need rails
>Get them in 6 months
>Place your dick on your kit
>Hit your dick with a hammer 200 times, if you don't scratch the shit out of your kit, keep hammering until you do
>Defeated, take your kit and barrel and receiver and rails to a competent gunsmith and pay them 80% what you could have bought your AK for, new
>Wait 3 years for them to figure out how the fuck the guy that made your barrel expected it to work in an AK, what they were thinking when they reamed the chamber, etc.
Congratulations, you now have a build-kit-tier AK that nobody else would want to buy from you!

>>33415303
>BAD easy way -> casting parts
Castings and MIM are used in applications that see more stress than anything a rifle creates and would cause a lot more damage if they failed. The process is not inherently bad, but it, as with every manufacturing process, can be done to a lower standard or with inferior materials for a price break.
>>33415476

>>33415480
Not shooting 1000 rounds. Wew.
>>33415639
If you have 8 AKs like some of us do, 1000 rounds takes a while on the ones you don't shoot often.
Of course, if you have 8 AKs, hopefully you know enough about them to not buy a c39 or RAS47.
Anon from yesterday about looking at a yugo ak for 625 here
I pulled the trigger and bought it. I'm going to go out next weekend and shoot with some friends and have a grand time. Zero rounds through it, and we'll see how it does.

Anyone use variable optics on their ak?
>>33416017
Once a long time ago when I first bought mine. Why?
>>33416037
Thinking about getting one but it seems like everyone runs red dots or just uses irons.
>>33416064
Scopes on AKs are a pain in the ass for one, and most people shooting AKs aren't putting them at distances that would require more than 1x magnification
Your only real options for scope mounting are having it sit high
>pic related
Or using the new MI 30mm mount and not being able to use irons. It's not bad depending on what you're doing, but most people just aren't using AKs for things that would require shooting 5-700m
>>33416086
well I was thinking of having a setup like pic related
>>33416165
that looks more usable than OrangeGiraffe's setup up there.
>>33416165
I had a similar setup with the same optic, but on an MI mount. It's alright if it's what you want to do but I wasn't a fan of not easily being able to get to the irons
But I also don't shoot more than 200 yards so it wasn't very useful to me
If it's aesthetic to you I'd say go ahead and try it anyways, it's only like 2-300 for that optic setup depending where you buy it, and it'll hold resale value, so it's not like you'll be fucked if you don't like it
Are we ever going to see a reasonably priced Vityaz clone that isn't created by a meth addict in a garage?
>>33416202
>>33416202
Jeremiah Cohn is supposed to be coming out with one, but the general consensus to to wait on it until somebody else tests it (his sample is a Russian kit, his product will be entirely US made), so time will tell.
It's worth noting that they'll be about $1400 and based on the earlier Vityaz without the railed dust cover.
Or you could hold your breath on KC USA and their $1k late-model clone, but I'm going to guess that they'll never release them and if they do, they'll be I.O. tier piles of shit.

The first real K-USA release....hahaha!
Are the PSA PSAK build kits worth it?
I see I can get a barreled receiver and stock/parts for about $500 total after taxes and fees, that's about $200 less than assembled AKs seem to be going for. Is that $200 discount worth the trouble of putting together an AK?
Btw I've owned a few AKs before and am pretty mechanically minded, I've done stuff like engine swaps on cars for example.
>>33416274
He's not quite that bad
>yet
He actually charges a reasonable price for all of his other rifles, though I've never personally dealt with one.
His prices are pretty much on par with Definitive Arms when they came out with their 9mm abomination, and it can't be cheap to pour cash into starting a completely new production, especially for a small shop, but I'll reserve my opinion on his products until they actually come out and get tested by someone else.
>>33416425
He's actually using billet for his trunnions, and CNC milling them to completion. If he sourced decent material, I'm guessing they'll be alright.
But yeah, it's pretty hard to fuck up with the low chamber pressures and a direct blowback, especially when he builds rifles for a living, and had a Russian kit to clone.
