There's a nice looking 1889/16 on Gunbroker right now. I'm starting to feel the fever for it...
>>
>>33406179
Yes and the difference is $500 vs $2500.

If you want to talk rare Mosins, there's a 27rv carbine on gunbroker right now. Think it's sitting at $2600.
>>
>>33406197
I'm just saying that round receiver Izhevsk mosins typically go online right now for not more than 400 in great condition.

Among others. I also see a lot of standard M91/30's in the $200 range.
>>
>>33406174
import mark is clearly visible in the auction photos on the left side of the receiver.
>>
>>33406216
I know, I agree it's pretty high. But I guess the guy really wanted it for some reason. You get in a bidding war and suddenly you spend $200 more than you originally wanted to, because you want to be a winner.

>You get in a bidding war and suddenly you spend $200 more than you originally wanted to, because you want to be a winner.
I've gotten into bidding wars before, but I'm smart enough to stay within my limits. I've only gone about $30 at the most more than I wanted to spend.

The worst is probably my Toyo Kogyo Type 99 long. It sat at no bids starting at $400 and the auction ended. I hated that I couldn't buy it as I didn't have the money. Next week I had the money when it was put back up at $300. I ended up spending $410 for it ;_; $10 more.
>>
>>33406430
it has only happened to me once, and I didn't get as badly taken as OPs buyer, but I did overpay somewhat. The difference is that there were only 70K Hakims ever made, so I'll be able to make up the difference, just by holding onto the gun for one or two years. There were 20-30 million round receiver mosins.

Yeah, I really don't know how they determine what to put in which lot. Fun fact: that short one's actually an m/24RV carbine for the Finn Civil Guard, but it has a Finnish Army m/27rv carbine stock. In the same auction was an m/27rv, with what was probably this m/24rv's stock.

well they made Type 38's from 1906-1945 and 99's from 39-45, but 99s were pushed to the front more often than 38s and likely got destroyed more often while 38s were kept in reserve, possibly explaining how there are more of them floating around

Strangly enough, I've owned 4 (3 currently) 99s with an intact mum and one that just had a couple chisel marks. Out of the 5 38s (3 currently and one a 44) I've owned only one had the intact mum. It's really hit or miss.

The later you go into the 99s the less likely it seems to have an intact mum though.

I got the same. Mine's in about the same condition, but came without a cleaning rod or sling. I ordered a new rod off the internet, and it would have been here yesterday except for some reason the Post Office decided to send my package from Denver to San Jose via New Orleans. I also ordered a Nohma Leather sling off of Amazon - not original equipment, but looks nice and doesn't seem out of place with an 85 year old rifle.

All in all, I'm really happy with my purchase.

As for the cleaning rod, I can't even get it out. Also the screw on the front barrel band is stuck and I haven't gotten around to buying better penetrating oil so I haven't even taken the gun out of the stock yet. Rear sight is pretty bad

Rock Island....despite the obscene amounts of money they make as the premier gun auction house.....they are fucking retarded fudds.

Their lot descriptions are shit and usually wrong. They will 100% take a consignor's description and post it verbatim on the website. So frequently items are labeled incorrectly or details are gravely lacking. They'll post guns as 'with provenance' but if you look at the details its just a letter from the seller saying the gun is w/e its represented to be --- so not actually provenance at all.

The worst part is once you bid/win, they will call you repeatedly for every auction. They always ask if you have questions about any of the lots. If you're stupid enough to say yes and actually ask them something like
>what caliber is it in? the listing doesnt say
>is the firearm functional?
>does the firearm have the magazine? I dont see one in the picture
>are the parts matching?

they will respond with "I dont know" and then will proceed to read you the same description that posted on the website.....despite the fact that you just told them the exact lot number of the item you were curious about.

They fucking suck balls. However, their post-auction customer service is pretty decent and its the best place to find unicorn guns.

Bolt matches, stock looks pretty good too. They've had it up for $700 for about a year but I know they will come down on the price if I make an offer. I've bought guns for less than half the asking price from them before. I'll offer $300 today and see where it goes.

Kek, They probably assume intact mum = rare. There is nothing rare about a 26th series made by Nagoya. Maybe if it was a "no" series (~6,000 made) or a 29th series (~3,000 made). It's still about a $300 gun.

The problem with using milsurps for hunting is that most pre-1945 milsurps use ammo that, while not completely unavailable, is more uncommon and more expensive than everyday hunting rounds. If hunting is your thing, you'd probably be better served just by going down to Cabela's or Dick's and buying a Maverick 88 shotgun.

I wouldn't say they're good.

They'll murder anything that walks, but whats accurate for a military gun isn't always accurate for a hunting rifle. Mounting optics is heresy for milsurps and ironsights are usually pretty terrible.
Depending on your level of numale-ification you may complain about weight.
They also usually come in oddball calibers not commonly found on shelves.

You can find bubbad guns pretty cheap though, so its a bit better. I kinda prefer my bubbad sporter to my fudd gun.
If you could find a pre-fucked 1917 in 30-06 you would have a solid hunting milsurp

The M1 Garand and M14 are virtually the same rifle with a refinement in gas system and the enbloc dropped for magazines.

Maintenance is tedious on both simply because of all the moving parts and the gas systems having their own nuances between them

People like them either for restoring things like drill rifles or for building their own "custom" guns. Sometimes they (hopefully) come from guns that have already been sporterized or otherwise fucked with. But sometimes they come from guns that were fine and guys just parted out because....i have no idea.

It's a long rifle. Without the S it is likely still in 8x50. So you have to reload if you want to shoot it. For $285 it's pretty high considering the sporterization. Most I'd pay is 225.

Moschetto Modello 91/24; a long rifle shortened to carbine-length.

>>33413261
>I found the metal fittings and top half were loose
Because the stock and handguard have had the shit sanded out of them and so the metal no longer has the wood to bear against to keep it tight.

>>33413356
>>33413409
That's a carbine senpai; just look at the rear sight. If it's not import marked, it may have been a bring back, or at least a pre-'68 import. A Bulgarian-refurbished stock set wouldn't be too hard to find, but for $285 it's not worth it monetarily.

>How huge of a pain in the ass is ammo/clips?
Ammo is available from PPU; clips can be found in surplus ammo and on Ebay. I have about 40 boxes of surplus ammo on clips that I've been hoarding just for the resale value.

>>33413603
>What can I do about that?
Nothing really; you can't put the missing wood back.
