For about a year I have wanted to get something in Real Fucking Nato to replace my AR. However I am having trouble deciding between a few:

-DSA Voyager
-DSA SA58
-BuildaFALâ„¢
or
-PTR 91
-Century Cetme knockoff with wood furniture
-C308 with the pic rail

From what I have seen it would cost the same for me to build a FAL as it would to just buy a Voyager. The SA-58 seems like it would be the best option but would require me to come up with more $'s outside of selling my AR and all of its mags.

The roller lock choices is kinda where I have no idea what I am doing or looking at. I guess if anyone can enlighten me on the differences between the three I listed that might help. Also I am a lefty if this makes any difference on a choice.

Oh what inspired me to make this bread was that there is a Cetme 308 for sale near me for $750 and was wondering if it was worth more than the C308? Thanks for any help /k/.

If you have to sell your AR to buy a battle rifle you probably cant afford to shoot it much. I'd say get a PTR or C308 asa starter since mags are dirt cheap. Being a lefty your best option is a SCAR 17s, but that might be put of your budget sk I'd say finger fuck both of them and see what is your preference

pls

Being in school I really don't shoot much anyway, so the cost per round to me means nothing to me. I was really trying to stay under the cost of my AR to not dump anymore cash into the purchase of a fun. I was just worried about me being a lefty because I know some G3-like rifles have that thumb rest on their grips.

Build FAL.
>go to falfiles marketplace
>get one of gunplumbers kits
>buy a receiver
>acquire tools
>????
>profit
It will be better quality than anything else on your list for less money. Plus you get to choose exactly what you want.
>>
>>33400424
Out of those, either a PTR or build an FAL. Century is turboshit while DSA is mid tier at best.
>>
>>33400543
You can build a FAL for less than $600?

>>33400548
I am coming from a Colt LE6920. Those are considered "mid tier". If that is the case I will pick up a DSA.
>>
>>33400424
>there is a Cetme 308 for sale near me for $750
That's about $150 more than what you can find CETME's for online. Also CETME's blow and you should spend the extra money on a PTR.. I'm assuming that CETME is at a Cabella's or some super fudd shop because those are the only places that would think CETME is worth that much and actually price it that high.

>>33400524
As a lefty you're probably better off with a FAL anyways since the charging handle is all the way on the front for the PTR
>>
>>33400567
Unless you're buying the $7000 DSA FAL that still uses duracoat as the finish, then you'll be buying low tier. If you want a good FAL, just build it for around the same price as or possibly less than the SA58. Like I said, build or PTR depending on if you want FAL or a G3.
>>
>>33400581
Its a C model with wood furniture.

>>33400640
The problem with building a FAL to me is after buying the wrench, the kit, and the receiver I am at the same price as just buying a DSA voyager.
>>
>>33401382
And you have a drastically better FAL and the satisfaction of building it yourself as a result.
>>
>>33401540
Got any price estimates fim pham?
>>
>>33401689
One of these kits: http://www.gunbroker.com/item/632069872

Another $500-600 for an Imbel receiver.

Tools may vary depending on what you already have but you'll need a vice and some other tools that you can generally get fairly cheap on FALfiles and resell them after you're done.
>>
>>33401791
$500 for a receiver

$462 for a parts kit before shipping

$150+ in FAL wrench and other things needed

$999 for a DSA Voyager with a warranty that if DSA fucks up I can go to them and say "fix it"
>>
>>33402028
Look man, you can do things the easy and cheap way, or you can do things the right way. If you're content with the voyager then stop trying to justify yourself and just do it. Asking for advice is stupid if you're just going to ignore it.
>>
>>33402108
I even pointed out in my OP that building wasn't going to be viable m80. I think the point of this bread was FAL or G3-ish rifle family.
>>
>>33402181
Which one was your OP? I don't get why the person I replied to was even asking for price estimates on builds or debating the merits of building if that wasn't an option for them.

>>33403063
Then why did you list building an FAL as an option? I guess I just misunderstood. What it comes down to is that by building or buying a kit build, you get a better gun for not that much different in price. PTR makes good G3 clones and fucking avoid century.

If you're looking for personal preference then I personally like G3s better. I can't tell you what to like though.

>>33405171
FALs are less accurate due to the tilting bolt and nonfree floated barrel m8. G3s were often used for DMRs while FALs really weren't except for a few exceptions. Pic related is Belgium using a G3.
>>
>>33405307
Because I was curious if somebody knew some piece of info on building FALs cheaply that I may not of known. Also people always say you get a better rifle but what is different exactly?

I'll keep that in mind with the G3's though. Oh does the PTR have a button mag release or a paddle?

What makes you drawn to the G3 family over the FALs if you don't mind me asking?

>PTR91 will be more accurate and have cheaper parts but feels like a boat anchor compared to the FAL

>Brass deflectors for G3 style rifles are a meme and really just control how far the brass goes

C308 isn't worth the metal its made of. Most parts are used. Seen multiple users have the barrels separate from the receivers. The bolt head on mine cracked after 50 rounds, CA has earned its reputation for a reason.

C308 is great, most people continue to confuse it with the original CETME, which was bad. However, OP should get the PTR91 because of the paddle release, better warranty, and the wide handguard.

A lot of talk about FAL's here, so I'll post this

I recently bought an SAR-48 and it was unable to cycle properly even with the gas vent at the top completely closed. I cleaned up everything (piston literally looks like it's never been used), and there are no obstructions in the gas tube. Whenever I would fire it on the "Grenade" setting, the hammer would not be pushed back and the bolt would become A LOT harder to pull back, and when I set it to the "Rifle" setting, it seems to push the hammer back down but it does not cycle the bolt back far enough to eject the round. The BHO does not work automatically, but if I manually pull it back and push the little bolt release lever up, it'll lock back. Furthermore, when the rifle is closed up, it seems to take a fair bit of force to cycle the bolt back with the charging handle, but the bolt carrier rides smooth as a whistle when I pop the rifle open for disassembly. I only tested it with .308 Tula, so perhaps it's the ammo? Will provide pics if this issue doesn't sound like simple user error

You're in the opposite boat as me, I'm desperate to find non-bipod barrel and handguard. I'm gonna buy one of Gunplumber's kits and a DSA receiver once my tax return hits. With the tools it should come out to a little over $1200, plus compliance parts and accessories. Should be fun.
