If the whole nation is looking for me then they will be able to find my vehicle by simply sending police to find every similar make and model if I left it anywhere that people would see it. I could ditch my car then steal another but then I'm making the gamble that enough cars are stolen to hide my theft and that they police wouldn't track every stolen car anywhere near my car's ditch point.

So the key is to get your vehicle to a location that isn't going to be found before most of the time is gone or found at all.

I know a few sound locations that I would be able to drive to then stash my car. The police simply don't have the man power to look down every slightly passable side forestry road and every possible turn off from them.
