I don't know about him, but I know the Mexican fruit pickers in my area often wear sweaters even in the height of summer (it's a desert, so it's hot during the day and super cold at night). If you put on a large sized sweater over a soft cotton material in the early morning when it's chilly, then it will keep the cool air around you or something. I didn't believe it at first myself, but I tried it once when I was doing farm work and it actually worked. I don't really know the physics behind it or if it would work in a semi-arid savannah climate, but maybe he's doing that?
