What can a rifle shooter do to improve their marksmanship if they are crosseye dominate (right handed, left eye dominate)?
>>
Shoot left-handed
Comfort doesn't matter if you can't hit a barn door from the inside
>>
>>33393954
just practice. I'm cross eye dominant and just shot with my right eye till it worked. You'll adapt eventually.
>>
Yeah i suggest shooting left handed too. Its gonna be awkward as hell but the mkre you shoot ( dry fires as well) ghs more second nature it becomes for you. I always cringe when i ses left handed shooters though. I can understand your delima

I'd bet all the money I have you shoot 3 foot wide groups
>>
relevant to me OP, fucks me over when I use a telescopic sight and sometimes I just shoot left handed when hunting.

recently I took up archery and I have an easier time compensating with a bow, this fall I am going to see how that works out during hunting season.

I have also considered an eye patch..

If I am shooting .22, I just aim across my body but I learned the hard way that it is a bad idea the first time I did that with .308

Fun fact: sight alignment doesn't mater (for aperture type sights).

I'm going to side with practice also. Just like people practice shooting off hand, practice shooting on both your right and left. I am cross eye dominant currently, but I was right/right when I learned to shoot. As I've gotten older, my vision has been getting worse in my right and my left eye is currently my dominant. I eventually plan to get lasik to correct the problem, but that will probably be a few more years down the road.

So what is wrong?
>>
>>33394092
There's no way this can be correct. Just adjusting your front sight a millimeter in either direction will change your shot placement by several inches at 100 yds.
>>33393954
Your options are
Switch your shooting hand. Requires a lot of retraining, but you should be practicing with your non dominant hand anyway.
Close your dominant eye. Gets very uncomfortable with extended shooting and harms your depth perception and situational awareness.
Occlude the dominant eye. Put a quarter sized piece of tape in the middle of the lens over your dominant eye on your eyepro. Obviously this won't help in a real world scenario where you have no eyepro.
Practice focusing with your non dominant eye. It's hard but it can be done. But it takes a lot of mental effort, especially under stress.

came here to post this
>>33394413
it is correct. its not even close to a millimeter. even a ghost ring will get you the same groups without paying attention to precise alignment inside the aperture.

One of these annons is not like the other, one of these annons is retarded. If these groups are shit, I'd like to see what you can do. You must be quite the shot.
>>
>>33394001 is right

if you practice and practice and you still can't hit shit, then you start to practice left, if you DO shoot great right handed, train left handed afterward anyway so you know how to shoot ambidextrously
>>
Shoot with the weak eye and close the strong.

I am right handed left eye. I did 9 years in the army. Shooting expert with iron sights. Fighting in iraq with irons and later aimpoint.

My right eye never caused me to miss.
>>

I'm left handed but right eye dominate, fuck my life. Thinking of sticking to shooting handguns left handed but now that I just bought an AR I've decided to just shoot righty. Any anons recommend drills or shit I can do to help get adjusted to shooting with now my right hand?

Maybe it's from years of playing vidya before becoming hasgunz but not having the crosshairs I've highlighted sit right on the target bugs me to no end. Just seems far less intuitive.
>>
>>33393954
Im left eye dominant but shoot right handed. CATM tried to get me to shoot lefty and I was still better shooting righty. I couldn't get used to reloads and the how awkward it felt. I wasn't a just starting out shooting though so it might be easier to do it from the get g.

I've shot expert at every qual so I stuck with my right side. Just do whatever your comfortable with, that's what I did and it doesn't affect my shooting.

This is actually how optics of aperture work. It is like mechanical red dot sight.

Put some scotch tape on your shooting glasses or get a clip on blinder. A single piece of scotch tape will sufficiently blur the side you want to train out.
Squinting for hours at a time will give you tension headaches.

As long as you are consistently doing the same thing, that's what really matters. However, alignment with an aperture sight is easiest to replicate when the post is centered. A combination of consistent cheek weld and consistent sight picture/alignment are necessary to achieve consistent point of impact.

It states there is no parallax shift present if the sights are out of the "ideal" alignment, it does not state that you do not need to consistently align them.

>>33397136
There really isn't much you can do besides practice but fortunately for you, you are left handed and you already have lots of practice using your offhand for various things. It will get less awkward the more you do it. Don't full load your mags so you're doing more switches, take things slow and think them through.
Try to practice a variety of supported and unsupported positions, if you have a shotgun and the opportunity try shooting some moving clays once you have a little confidence.
Do dry aiming transitions, loading, unloading, really any exercise is going to help.
There are lots of things you can do off the range like practice your penmanship or just use your wronghand more. Brushing your teeth, eating, etc. Look up some physical therapy exercises for hand-eye coordination.
Doing this kind of shit regularly is good for your brain anyway.

>>33393954
Am I the only one who hates these peep sights? The two little side wings always throw me off since they are at a different height than the center post. It's like someone designed to specifically trick your eye into acquiring the sight wrong.

>hat can a rifle shooter do to improve their marksmanship if they are crosseye dominate (right handed, left eye dominate)?
I switched how I shoot handguns. My left eye is really dominant, but I aim with my right eye and squint my left eye so I don't accidentally acquire a sight picture with my left eye. I have to squint with aiming rifles too, but it's better than holding them left-handed.
