I'm getting my first firearm in a couple of days, but I can't decide which I should go for. I've decided up to $700 is my limit.
I've really gotten to love the sks by watching reviews, but should I go with something different? I see Norinco sks' go for $300-500 constantly

My first was a WASR for $649

SKS's seem to be priced more than they're worth usually. For around $500-$600 you can buy/build a decent AR or find a WASR for $600-$700

go with type D or M, although they dont have the greatest finish the russian and yugo stuff is also fun.
Pic related
muh type M
>>33393900
yeah SKS is great if you own chainmail gloves
those knives can cut your hand open
dont waste your money on a meme, get a glock.
I got a yugo m59 sks ( without the nade launcher) and I love it. Fact that I live in NY influenced this purchase...think most /k/mmandos here will try to discourage you.
I think it makes for a great first rifle tho.

The AR platform seems to be less reliable and/or ambidextrous than the SKS though, the fact that I can throw it in the back of my truck and go to the range with less care is appealing.

I would get rid of the bayonet, it has no use other than to look pretty.
>>33393935
The blade bayonets aren't even sharp
What the fuck are you doing anon?
>>33393900
Don't buy an SKS they are inflated like 3x their worth because of government fuckery and fudd retardation. Don't pay new rifle prices for a seventy year old rusty POS made by commie slaves.
Also they really aren't good rifles. The SKS is basically the Mosin Nagant of semi auto milsurp. I bought one way back in 2011 due to the hype and it was just one let down after another.

I'm a lefty and I have zero issues operating an AR that has no ambi controls. And they're plenty reliable assuming you're not going scuba diving with it or something.
>>33393977
>Ambidextrous
Fuck, not the word I meant to say.
>>33393900
They're great for a first rifle with plenty of aftermarket accessories for them.
If you can find one at a decent price go for it.

What is a "Decent" price for an SKS?
>>33394022
honestly man they're getting super rare nowadays, probably won't go down anytime soon. they're getting up to 1400. you're better off getting a glock.
>>33394033
>Glock
I'm not looking for a pistol
Furthermore I'm 20, not legal where I live.
I should have given more info on the first post, but I'm a tard
>>33394022
Around $300 if you're lucky
I wouldn't spend more than $450 for one though
And if you can, get one with the blade bayonet
