Both would get absolutely destroyed by most common hunting calibers.
Speed kills. The steel that does this to steel core 54r gets cut through like butter with 223/556.

i know this range. been there several times. never going back. however. they have a "tactical bay" which has fewer restrictions on weapons e.g. AKs were allowed last i checked. and, they have a 50 yard range which allows FMJ. the 100 yard range is implied to be for the fudds and their scoped durr rifles.

Good for you. Doesn't make the range any less shitty for everyone else.
>>
My nearest indoor 25 yard range allows any type of rifles but no M855, they say their backstop can't handle it.
>>
>>33393218
There is a real reason for no steel jacketed/steel cored ammo. It is not that the backstop can't handle it. It is the extremely unlikely, completely theoretical possibility that a spark from a round striking the backstop igniting the unburnt powder that is in the air at the range and the fact that it is either prohibitively expensive to insure a range that allows it or the insurance company won't insure them if they allow it.

It is just far easier to explain to the slack jawed masses that it damages the backstop. Often their own ROs are included in the stupid masses.
>>
>>33393310
Holy shit someone besides me knows this and remembered to post it thanks. Also some outdoor ranges have the same rule but insurance doesn't know the difference in air circulation vs catastrophic event probability

So they worry about the extremely unlikely spark from a bullet half a football field away igniting unburnt powder in the air. But the non stop jets of flame coming out of the ends of everyones barrels is no concern.

The outdoor range I typically go to has some dumb rules like that. Mainly the typical:
>no rapid fire
It's not very expensive to shoot for the whole day, but it's not as fun as shooting on a friend's land when you are surrounded by RSO's breathing down your neck because of retards who can't unload their rifles during ceasefire and similar stuff. On the plus side, its part of a military base so it is an extremely clean and well maintained range.
>>
>>33395456
Honest-to-God conversation I had with the gentleman working the front desk, after he told me no 7.62x39 or was allowed on the 100 yard range.

Me: "What if I told you I already had a 1-4x optic on top zeroed for 200 yards?"

Guy: "Is it an AR rifle?"

Me: "No, it's an AK."

Guy: "Then no. Rules are that we do not allow any AKs on the 100 yard range. They are not accurate enough to use safely."

Their range, their rules, so I took my business elsewhere. On the plus side, if we ever go to war with Russia, at least he'll feel safe as long as their soldiers stay 60 yards away.
>>
>>33395322
Are they the only range in DFW that allows FMJ on the rifle range?

This is a fudd range near me. Needless to say, I don't go to this range.

>>33396500
The only thing I can assume is that they have a separate range for pistol caliber firearms and the rules are an attempt to keep the rifle range available for people shooting rifle caliber guns.

Their "no slav guns" rule is still hella stupid though.

>>
>>33392536
>>33392586
Was just there today, the pistol age thing isn't enforced. I overheard the RSO explaining for the reasoning for the "no humanoid targets" rule; it seems some of the members were not especially happy about how some people were using them. I suspect that it was one or two creepy sperglords practicing headshots all day that ruined it for everyone.

The RSO just had the guys with the target fold the head part of the target underneath, and we all had a good laugh that is was now just an oval target. Also, ISC is primarily a hunting club, so personal defense isn't really their focus.

I'm not a huge fan of the 10 round limit, but it beats >>33396627 and for all I know it might be unenforced as well. The RSO didn't even ask me how many rounds I had in my 30 round mags (I had loaded them with 10).

Red's South is absolutely garbage. North is better, but it's still poorly lit and air filtration leaves a lot to be desired.

Shady Oaks in Cedar Park is pretty great, but only goes out to 25 yards and doesn't have a lot of lanes. Usually I'd spend an hour just waiting for a lane to open up.

I got the now-discontinued Silver membership at The Range though, so I pay $35 a month for unlimited range time and they almost always have 25 yard pistol lanes open with great lighting and filtration. Haven't tried their 100 yard rifle yet, but it looks great too. Considering I shoot at least 2-3 times a month, it's been very worth it, as that same amount would get me 2 hours at Red's or 1.5 hours at Shady Oaks anyway. Once they get their online lane reservation shit squared away it'll be even better.
>>
>>33397781
fuck shady oaks. went once, will not go back. the range is amazingly nice, I really enjoyed the setup, but the RSO's really turned me off of it. Standing around judging everyone's everything and not paying any attention to proper range safety. twice I had to point out to them that the people next to us were putting their weapon on the bench pointed and our lane.

Completely retarded on both your assumption and the rule.
Most places just don't want you shooting at Jamal or pregnant lady targets because if the local news catches wind from some shocked soccermom they don't want to deal with the fallout nor do they want the liability of potential wackos practicing shooting famous/important figures. I think it's bullshit even at that but I have never had a plain or organ silhouette (the important bit being no unique human's face) and been told to take it down.
Occasionally you'll find a place that only allows silhouettes or certain types of targets at certain ranges or certain positions on their target stands in order to keep idiots from shooting over backstops, into the ceiling, etc.

Thinking about trying to get membership at Upper Nisqually, their range is reasonably long and my favorite innawoods spot is closing thanks to white trash and spics dumping their appliances in the woods. Not sure how that is target shooter's fault but the idiots who live nearby have also been complaining about the noise. Most don't live there full time or within 1.5mi or even within direct los of the places people shoot so I'm not sure how it is even an issue.
The membership upkeep there is super jewish though. If you miss a deadline by a day you need to be re-initiated which is retarded.

Those are some stupid rules.

The only one I have an issue with at my range is no photography of any kind.

It is the NRA headquarters range, every now and then there is some faggot protestor mucking about.
I just wish I could take pics with my wife/rifle.
>>
>>33399311
I don't think they're going to boot your for snapping a photo with your wife especially if you aren't very obviously doing it for the purpose of capturing background. There's no law they have to enforce the rule equally, it's to prevent some cunt from going around and documenting every person and firearm on the range.
>>
>>33399335
I haven't had the issue myself. But once when I was shooting a bunch of FOB chinks sharing a couple rifles were distracted while taking pics. Eventually they muzzle fucked a couple of folks and got a slap on the wrist.
>>

Holy fucking shit what range is that? that is the biggest fudd screed I've ever seen in my life

>>33392536

Honestly with exception of the automatic shell ejection that's pretty standard for rifle ranges.
I never load more than 5 rounds in my AR at a time anyway.

>>33392754
22 is for hoarding, not shooting.

>range has no rapid Fite rule posted

It's further than 45 minutes but check out Magnum Shooting in Sanger. It's outdoor and basically no rules. Only went once but it was pretty laid back

They let you shoot pretty much anything you want as long as it's not dangerous and you clean up after yourself
>>
There is a local shooting range with stupid rules:
>20 € for to get inside, you can shoot 50 rounds.
>for 5 € you can shoot additional 20 rounds
Note: You are shooting your own cartridges out of your own gun.

I drive 100km extra for better range
>range up to 500m
>7€ to get in or 50€ for "year card"
>no limit how much you shoot
>range master is a cool dude
>>
Went to a range once where you couldn't walk with your weapon to the shooting line had to hand it to an employee so he can walk right next to you the whole 14ft from the door to the shooting line
>>
>>33400459
You have to wonder what sort of abject idiocy forced them to make that rule.

I can only imagine it being a rollercoaster ride from start to finish.

probably just watching enough retards who can't mind their muzzle. the same reason most places make you case/uncase on the firing line rather than wandering around with potentially loaded shit with your finger on the trigger as i frequently see people do at less restrictive establishments.

Cannons are pretty common. I save old welding oxygen and inert gas cylinders that don't pass inspection for my cannonbro to shoot bowling balls.

Empty cylinder, saw off brass valve (they are usually stuck hence not worth saving except for the knob and screw that holds it), bring to fab shop with horizontal bandsaw and cut to length (or go slow with a 6" cutting wheel) Takes more time to drill the touch hole than cut the cylinder. Valve end can be used for a nice loud bell.

You can find many legal blackpowder cannon and mortar plans.

That shithole makes Californian ranges look appealing. Cuck buttons and all.
>>
My range encourages Class 3 furearms of all types.
>>
>>33392586
>use of cannons is prohibited
lost hard to that one holy fuck

my range's rules are basically the big 4 +
>no drawing unless LEO or have CC permit
>no special ammo, ball only
>shooters under 18 must be supervised while shooting
>no .50BMG
>no rapid fire
but once you go there a lot, you get friends rules really, which become

>yeah you have your permit and nobodys here, go ahead and draw
>ehhh your kid seems to be pretty trustworthy, its fine
>sure, magdump, not like I really give a shit
>yeah tracers would look cool inside

honestly I find all the rules are reasonable and don't mind following them.

My local range rules and new signs over time. it is a range that you get a gate key and come and go as you like. No RO or supervision at all

No shooting after dark and no shooting until after 9 on sundays
Pistol range- no rifles or shotguns. If anyone shoots steel EVERYONE needs eye pro
That is how it started
Rifle range - 2 seconds between shots and NO Shotguns!
then it started
-If the destruction does not stop this range WILL CLOSE!
-DO NOT SHOOT BENCHES OR TABLES
a month later next to the port o jon
-Please dont shoot the toilet
Then signs got posted as you drove in
-Tracers and 50bmg are no longer allowed at this range
-Tannerite is banned from this range!
The last one might of been my fault. It was my first container of it and no one brought a full power rifle and we couldn't set it off. sooo we left it down range on a barrel in one of the private berm areas. I guess some saw it and tacticaly shit himself... damn snitches
>>
>>33393310
can just about guaran fucking t that theres zero chance of unburnt gun powder reaching a stoichiometricaly viable ratio on an outdoor range. almost impossible on an indoor one either unless somebody shows up with a literal 50+ pound bag of BP and dumped it out in front of a fan... Pretty sure theyre just worried about the sparks causing wild fires or normal range fires
>>
>>33393045
Uh, it doesn't fucking matter if it's on PA game lands unless you're actually taking game, retard. You can't even hunt with a semi in PA (yet, they're probably changing it for 2017 season) so do they ban all semi-autos?

Your range is shit, stop making excuses, faggot.
>>
>>33396612
I am the cause for two new signs at my range. One is no parking in the grass (I now make sure to floor it over the grass on my way out)

The other is no rifles at the pistol bay, I fired literally two shots with my mosin in an otherwise empty pistol bay and kind Fudd himself took issue.

>walk up to range and hold my thumb behind the trigger guard look through my 3x magnifier with no reticle and just try to hit paper at 100 yards and get terrible accuracy just to flaunt skirting some gay ass fudd rules

PA has ranges on some state game lands open to the public if they have a hunting license or a range permit ($30 a year)

He posted the rules for those ranges. Looks like you're the retard
>>
>>33403275
1. I know they do, I live in PA and use the game lands occasionally.

2. No he didn't.

3. If game land ranges had to follow hunting regulations (which is the reason fuckstick gave for the round limits) then semi-automatics would also be banned.

It's like you're trying to out-tard each other.

The rifle RO actually scans everyone's targets with his spotting scope. You hit off paper, you're out.

He's an older gentlemen, and he mean's well (shotgun sports right on the opposite side of the rifle berm), but I think half the rules are there because he wants them.

>targets must have single point of aim on pistol range

you know, I can't just not be a shit shot and aim at the center of my target so as not to destroy muh precious target stands, meanwhile le fudd special butcher paper is a-ok where it has no point of aim other than bullet hole fudd puts right on edge of paper with first shot

>no staple guns allowed after march first because babby faggots cut themselves on target stands

I am sure this will pan out great in a place where it rains more than most of the rest of the country

>can't draw from holster

Pretty certain that range is Elm Fork in the DFW metroplex area. Went there once, was total. fucking. shit.

You can shoot rifles on their pistol range if I remember correctly. Was able to shoot my Ak with irons there, but only at like 20 yards. It was shit.
Priciest range in the area too.
