Hello, /k/.
I turn 21 this coming March 28, and I figure why not celebrate by buying a handgun instead of going to bars like a degenerate would?
Problem is: i'm stumped on what I want to buy. I was first convinced to buy a 1911, but then thought about a glock 17, then a single action revolver in 357, then a S&W M&P 9 full size, and now I am just thinking about buying a Ruger 22/45.
There are a fuck ton of choices and so little time. Honestly, I might just buy a 22/45 because I have never shot a handgun that isn't a 22lr. I would like something to practice with and maybe keep for kayaking trips as well. My budget is under 500, better if under 400 as well because I'm going to buy an AR15 as well.
So /k/, what's a good first handgun for someone who shoots rifles/shotguns but has never shot a handgun? Pic related

Drinking has been man's pasttime since we discovered it

I would rather do something fun, that's all.

Booze is toxic retarded loser shit. Drunks are fools.
OP is wise beyond his years and kudos to him!
Buy the Ruger and shoot it often. You can always add guns later and something you are likely to ENJOY shooting will get you into the fun.
Ruger's new MkIV looks promising, but the 22/45 ones look horribly retarded.
But you should consider it if you can remove the retarded picatinny rails all over the thing.

I love how the 22/45 feels, but I really fell in love with the sr22 and ended up getting that.
And I love it even more after getting a laser sight for it. Makes hitting things a breeze.

That's the reason why I prefer this 22/45, and not the newer 22/45 because the new ones look retarded as balls.

Just personal preference that I want my 22lr handgun to be something that isn't based on a full size handgun round, like how your sr22 is based on sr9.

I'm pretty sure my buddy has an sr9. And it would have never crossed my mind that they're based on eachother. Size and everything is pretty different, but the sr22 does feel "solid" which is half the reason I love it. But I think it's quite a bit smaller.
Then again, I can't remember 100%, but IIRC the holster i got for the sr22 can hold an sr9. I'd bet that the sr9 wouldn't fit if you added a laser to the sr9 though. It'd probably be too big then.
sr22 if you want a normal looking poly, Browning Buckmark for a nice .22 that isn't neon green with a bull barrel and a $400 price tag. The base Mark 4's are reasonably priced unless you want rose grips or something.

the sr22 is significantly smaller

good, then I am remembering things right about that
