Can't you build a good rifle for less?
Top notch stock - $250
Top notch barrel - $3-400
Top notch trigger - $200
Free float handguard - $200
All the other shit can be found relatively cheap and doesn't affect accuracy that much. I also listed approximate prices not on sale, and it depends on what grade barrel you want. Obviously a match grade barrel will cost more, but for a "battle rifle" do you really need that?

What do you lads think about the new DSA FALs? Do they shoot okay? Worth $1k US?
I got the 7.62 itch but I don't think I want to drop 1.5k on a "real" one; I'm more of a shooter than a collector and the historical value of a proper FAL isn't very valuable to me.
Is it preferable to something like a PTR or AR10? A new PTR is ~$100 cheaper but people here don't seem to like them.

Need help, fellow FAL owners!

I recently bought an SAR-48 and it was unable to cycle properly even with the gas vent at the top completely closed. I cleaned up everything (piston literally looks like it's never been used), and there are no obstructions in the gas tube. Whenever I would fire it on the "Grenade" setting, the hammer would not be pushed back and the bolt would become A LOT harder to pull back, and when I set it to the "Rifle" setting, it seems to push the hammer back down but it does not cycle the bolt back far enough to eject the round. The BHO does not work automatically, but if I manually pull it back and push the little bolt release lever up, it'll lock back. Furthermore, when the rifle is closed up, it seems to take a fair bit of force to cycle the bolt back with the charging handle, but the bolt carrier rides smooth as a whistle when I pop the rifle open for disassembly. I only tested it with .308 Tula, so perhaps it's the ammo? Will provide pics if this issue doesn't sound like simple user error
>>
>>33416699
Sounds like you're just limp-wristing, try to maintain a firm, tight body position when firing.
>>
>>33416806
I don't mean that it's too hard for me to cycle, I just mean that, compared to every other gun I've shot, it feels a whole lot stiffer to cycle, and when a round was fired and did not extract, I had to bang the charging handle back with the palm of my hand due to it being MUCH harder to cycle back. Limp-wristed or not, these gas-related cycling issues persist

hey guys, I'm having some issues with my CETME not ejecting properly. Yeah, yeah, I know, I should have just got a PTR, but this is what I have now and I need some advice on fixing what I have now.

It will strip a cartridge and chamber it just fine. After a single shot though, the CETME will retain the spent casing in the bolt assembly (I think that's what it's called), or sometimes even flip it around and try to chamber it from the spent primer side, and the ejector (I think) doesn't rise up far enough to kick it out. I'm not very gun-parts literate yet.

Can anyone with experience with G3 models help me diagnose and fix this issue?

Here's a picture of the trigger group thing. The arrows point to some things that I would think might be a part of the problem. The ejector looking thing as well as a few plates around it have a matching hole that looks like a fastener hole. Should something be there? Nothing was when I opened up the gun.

What about the spring that gives some tension to the whole thing, does this need replacing?

Battle rifles are a meme

There's a reason modern militaries don't use full-size rifle cartridges as infantry rifles

>Tests showed the .223 Remington cartridge fired from the AR-15 allowed an 8-soldier unit to outgun an 11-soldier unit armed with M14s at ranges closer than 300 meters. U.S. troops were able to carry more than twice as much .223 Remington ammunition as 7.62×51mm NATO for the same weight, which allowed them an advantage against a typical NVA unit armed with Type 56-1s.

If you're shooting at a range that would demand .308, you should be using a bolt gun anyway.
>>
>>33419949
Fulton armory just released their 6.5 M1a
>>
>>33422118
So a modern AR 15 design refined over decades to excel at the exact test you're describing is better than a 60 year old update on an even older design? Color me shocked.

None of this really applies to civilians at all and if your operator fantasies ever came to reality you'd be dead in about 45 seconds with a civlian AR or an M1A outside of a squad setting.

>>33422276
As >>33422528 said, but also remember that battle doctrine matters. Your test listed in your first post is US vs US, which the US doctrine is very much about suppressive fire and utilization of exterior support, whether air, artillery or otherwise. The M16 is more an immediate "oh fuck they're close by" defense, which your listed test also says "[...] at ranges closer than 300meters."

This does not mean it wins every engagement. It means that, color me shocked... a gun that has an effective range up to that which can be fired full auto (most cannot use the M14's full auto effectively), has a lot of munitions, operated by those trained in a doctrine that does not emphasize marksmanship and is in effective range holds better than a gun that is not designed around that exact combat scenario held by people not as heavily trained in said focus. As >>33422191 said, it's a modern design refined over decades, which excels at a particular test that it would be designed to excel at, is better than a gun that was no longer rapidly refined/updated as heavily. What you listed is not shocking, merely common sense.

Some of us do not live in urban areas, and have lots of open land. There's a reason that despite adaptation of 5.56 in many nations, others used 7.62 or in Swiss-land's case, 6.5x55 because they need the range across mountains.

Some guns perform better in circumstances to others... who knew?
Also, as stated: A E S T H E T I C S
>>
>>33422552
It's cheap enough that I don't feel bad about running it through my modern funs, I figure if it really is destroying the internals like the "brass can't damage steel parts" conspiracy theorists would have us believe, I'll just use the money I saved over those thousands of rounds to buy replacement parts.
Obviously if I want to shoot for accuracy I'll use higher quality ammo which is by default going to be brass cased.

Having rails on 9 and 12 will make the cocking handle harder to get at even before adding accessories (which if you don't, it defeats the point of having the rails in the first place. Rails on 3 and 6 are the only ones that sort of make sense.

>only tested it with .308 Tula

Don't shoot steelcase in a FAL.

>would fire it on the "Grenade" setting, the hammer would not be pushed back

Wow its almost like when the gas plug is set to grenade it doesn't cycle the bolt or something.

From the rest of it I would guess there is something going on with the gas piston, have a look where there is fouling to get an idea of what the gas is doing. Is the piston bent or weak?

The bolt being hard to work is an important clue and I think I have read about someone having a similar issue but I don't remember what the problem nor solution was off the top of my head.

It also could be an out of spec receiver but this seems less likely.

A functioning FAL can be hipfired and still cycle reliably. If a closed gas setting is only resetting the hammer and not ejecting he has a mechanical problem.

Can anyone tell me is DSA is metric or inch patern? I'm new to the FAL world.

Someone please come hold my hand...

>>

I traded my other AK for it, and it just feels more sturdy and powerful.

>>
>>33439999

>>
>>33439973
Don't worry about it; you'll never shoot enough .308 for it to matter.

Out of curiosity, what don't you like about the sights? The 100 setting I can kind of get but the 200-400 work pretty much the same as any other aperture sight.
>>
>>33440217
New DSAs are all cast, they switched from forged a while back. If it's relatively new, it's probably cast. You can probably find the serial numbers on falfiles if you really care.

Not that it fucking matters.

What do you not like about the drum sight? I'm not trying to argue, I've never used one but I'm considering buying a PTR and I want to know what's wrong with them.
>>
>>33422092

As much as I love multi lug rotating bolts, you need to shut your pie hole. Variety is the spice of life and there's a reason that not everyone buys Glocks or AR pattern rifles. Hell, roller delayed blowback is an inferior system but I still like it because it's different and actually interesting.

Not that guy but many people don't like the 100 setting which is an open notch and just zero the rifle using the 200m aperture setting. I'm not sure why people wouldn't like the peep sights though.

>>33440210
DSA sells them. You'd also need a new lower, dustcover, recoil springs and bolt carrier. I think the receiver needs modifiacation. It's harder than these anons make it seem. I wouldn't bother if I were you. But it's your rifle.

>>33395594
If you pay more than $700~800 unless theres a ton of add ons like mags and shit or its got an imbel receivdr you're a fool.
>>
>>33440759
You don't need to modify the receiver.
>>
>>33440759
Fuuuuck that shit, I'll build a new rifle from a kit for that.

So all wood battle riafu it is!
>>
>>33440640

Oh my lort, maybe that shit you have on yours. Wide handguards can be a bitch to find, the bipods are expenaive as fuck cheapest being $80 which isnt that bad in the grand scheme of things but is probably a lot for you, im guessing you're advising fags to use utg scope mounts and shit. The only thing you have going for you is cheap mags. All of which are not 100% functional, what with being beat up surplus and all.
>>
>>33413004
What parts? Do you speak of? The trigger housing? Oh can he do an ak style swap like the tapco g2 trigger? Or the alg? Hmmm

The more you shoot the bwtter you get, the cheaper the bullet the more you can buy the more you can shoot. Though some people are content to just arrange their rifles in hipster fashion take pictures and shitpost on himalayan basket weaving forums.

>>33422965
Im going for torso sized targets, I frankly don't care too much if my groups are a little wide as long as they all hit the steel target.

Its entirely a matter of preference. Dont sweat it, they dont bother me at all. The 100 is shitty because its meant for CQC and night shooting. Just zero the 2 setting @ 100 meters and youre good.
>>
>>33439999
Its not that easy retard, going from regular to folding stock needs a whole new lower amongst other things.
>>
>>33441451
>implying they aren't

>>33441558
What if the torso sized target is at 600 meters?
