2011's are double stack.
Looks like a standard STI 1911, still a good race gun. Dunno what mount it is, they usually have a different style mount.

It could be a Caspian, but I'm pretty sure it's a Springfield - the Caspian trigger is throwing me though. It IS double stack, and could very well be one of Rob Latham's USPSA Open division guns.
Getting the C More closer to the iron sight plane makes acquisition faster. Also, Open shooters are moving away from 38 Super and running Major 9.

Because IPSC and not IDPA. Of course if you actually load .38 Super, 9x23, and .40 to their utmost limits they are really kickass, while most "military" and tacticool douchebags sing the praises of regular old faggy 9x19. Also everybody is doing the red-dot-on-handguns thing now, so we are sort of adopting elements of the "practical" racegun bullshit into defensive weapons.

For it's intended purpose, hell yes. It's highly specialised though, meaning it's impractical for general purpose usage.

The advantage in sight radius isn't the point here. You're getting more barrel length without more mass. More barrel means a more complete powder burn and a more forward weight distribution, which reduces the felt recoil. This reduction is especially important in classes where you can't use a muzzle brake.
