Its not common but a few people have it, I'm kind of hazarding a possibility the stainless has maybe been hit with an acid/base or even an acetate which might have causes some mild corrosion to make it a bit more 'free' on the surface of the metal.

Boil water in it. 10 times. Washing the whole thing with soap, water, and a degreaser in between each boil.

If it still smells of copper, chuck it or make it a piss-pot.

First sip is in! I'll admit that I was a bit cautious with actually drinking some of this, but I think I can handle it. Tasted pretty standard for Taster's Choice, but I noticed some strange flavors towards the end. There was definitely a metallic taste in there, and even a bit of sulphur to some extent. I suspect that the granules might be corroded metal, so I took care to sip lightly. I'll report back as I drink more

Don't drink from that shit. Never assume a metal item is food grade. Aluminum can fuck you up bad, especially so if you boil shit in it then consume it. Some coatings they use on metals are also harmful, ceramic coating is the only good one.

If you have a metal canteen/thermos make sure that shit says "stainless steel." If it doesn't say exactly that it's probably aluminum, there's a reason they don't label it. They want to go cheap but they're not required to label harmful materials in this case.
