How do we kill the BigDog?
>>
Already a dead meme, wont actually be used.

Also just pull one wire or shoot it anywhere, and there you go, its over all over man.
>>
>>33384466
I thought it was rejected because of how damn loud it is. So, I guess you hear it a mile away and set up an ambush.
>>
>>33384466
For what purpose? It is squad level transport platform. What kind of threat does it pose?

Boston Dynamics. They make some really cool shit.

Probably costs a fuckton. But I might be off by a few fuckpounds on that estimate.

Banana peel.

anyone have any idea how the software works? Is it self learning? Is it capable of adaptation?

You don't Anon; because there are 3 generations of robots behind it. This is it. Start ordering extra dessert and enjoy Life, because SkyNet is around the corner.

>inb4 ATF joke
>>
>>33384466
Didn't Jewgle buy out Boston Dynamics because they went bankrupt since DoD no longer wanted the things? Also the robots were sold off in an auction last I heard, it's a neat concept, but dead.

All their newer robots like Next-Gen Atlas, Handle, Spot and SpotMini are battery powered and much quieter:

Some form or variation of it will probably be used one day, also, they aren't or don't need to be that vulnerable - just give them redundant control systems, etc; their software is smart enough to adjust for limbs not doing what they're meant to do.

>>33384562
There's no self-learning, but it does adapt to terrain - ie it won't try to step into gaps between rocks, etc.

There's no reason that neural networks can't be integrated either into the walking process or (more importantly) into pathfinding and decision making, but for now they're essentially remote controlled with semi-autonomous features like the specific placement of legs, the ability to visually target a can and pick it up with an arm, or to open a door with a QR code on it.

>>33384624
No, Google bought them in their prime like 3 years ago, they're now looking to sell Boston Dynamics (because Google wanted to do a moonshot and get something like in-home robots within a decade, while BD didn't quite think that was possible), with Toyota being keen to buy them. In the meantime, they're still getting funding and still making new stuff.
>>
I don't know why, but I've always been really creeped out by the way this particular robot moves. It literally makes my skin crawl

Pic related, set loose in rough terrain areas for anti-guerilla operations. Can outrun you and weave like a motherfucker, can pinpoint you after a couple shots, and can call in its friends. Light armored, but completely quiet. Wat do.

I don't see why they couldn't turn one of these into an in-home robot within 10 years.

Something that can vacuum + pick up larger stuff + go up/down stairs would be a big hit.
>>
>>33389613
>Not if they didn't write it in, which they likely didn't since it's a heavily monitored prototype with no promise of field testing
It is written in - when you see a video of BigDog trying to stay upright on slick ice, it's having to compensate for the fact that it's feet are slipping from where its internal software model is expecting them to go.

>>33390770
LIDAR - a laser range finder that's scanning the area around it (within the spinning thing the laser is being tilted up and down as well, or there are multiple lasers at different angles) and generating a 3D map of the terrain.

>>33392831
Because even ignoring pricing and safety, most of the demos have very limited autonomy. Atlas's ability to pick up boxes and open doors depends on there being big QR code stickers placed on them, which most customers wouldn't be happy about, SpotMini's can-finding algorithm depends on the operator positioning the robot so that it's already facing the can - in the analogy of fighter jets and missiles, all the robot is doing is the terminal guidance onto the target; the jet (human operator) has to locate and aim the missile roughly at the target (can).

To be fair, Google (Alphabet) also bought a bunch of AI and machine vision companies to work on making them a lot more automated, but either those guys got redirected to Alphabet's Waymo (self-driving cars) company, or perhaps the work was just going to be too much - something that can vacuum, pick up larger stuff and go up/down stairs would be a big hit, but not so much if the robot costs as much as a luxury sedan. Chances are Google had a bunch of capabilities that it needed a robot to be capable of before being marketable.

And again with safety; in the SpotMini demo it accidentally crushes/ pierces a can while trying to give it to a human at the end of the video, before then recoiling back into a door frame and falling over - that kind of stuff isn't consumer-friendly.

And I've actively tried recreating Bugs Bunny cartoons irl before as a kid. They just kinda mush and make a mess.

If anything the banana peels provided more traction than a freshly mop n' glo'd linoleum floor.

Sure but you also gotta remember these people pay thousands of dollars for maids to do this stuff. So the minimum price of a machine doesn't need to be say below 5000-10000 dollars to make hundreds of thousands of sales.

Yea seems like it definately needs more computing power to process movements in real time rather than following preplanned patterns
