Add this, Anon...

Talvisota - The Winter War. About the Russian invasion of Finland.

Movie is a little old (1989), so the special effects are good for the time, but not the same level as Saving Ryan's Privates... but that also means when you see weapons, or a tank or a plane, its the genuine article...

Worth the effort. In Finnish with English subtitles, Perkele!

True shit, Anon... haven't seen the 4 hour version.

For what it is - late 80's war movie made in Finland - it's pretty damn compelling.

Fav bits are how they exploit weaknesses... no arty coz the Swedes sold them the wrong ammo - so they jam shit in between the tank's drive wheels and the track to stop it, then chuck petrol bombs in the fresh air intake at the back of the tank... brew that shit up, perkele!

Don't know what Finland is like now, but they stood fucking tall back then... huge clanking brass balls...

surprised what's it called, Barry Lyndon isn't on that list even though it only shows a little bit of warfare. There really aren't enough period films that show the 16th-early 18th century. The only things that even really overlap with the period shown in Barry Lyndon are films about the American Revolution. Otherwise, scriptwriters seem to believe that there's some huge lull up until Les Miserables and War and Peace, after which there's another long ass void... Don't think I've seen anything that covers the Crimean War, or the Spanish-American war, or the Flip-American war, or 100 other interesting things in the period stated above.

Basically, fuck Hollywood.

We have almost no "intellectual" journalists that aren't left-leaning, and most of the times the majority of the population follows their words. Another thing is, that any movie with Til Schweiger in ANY role(exept Inglorious Basterds maybe) is generally viewd as some trashy action movie(and most of them are). But the majority of the population doen't care as long as they have Soccer and Currywurst. The german people does not want freedom it just want's a life free of sorrows.
But things are getting better since about thwo years, when Angela merkel managed to piss our entire population off with her immigration policies.

The director gave no fuck of enforcing Russian accents on the actors. Ron Pearlman, an American who learned French in a few months to play in the City of lost children mocked jude law and the others by really doing a cockney accent and Bob Hoskins was so much of a professional that he was the only one to do a Russian performance

The movie was shit when the "Russians" were talking about tea, I thought they were going to bust out crumpets.

The movie was seen by actual veterans of Stalingrad and thought it was Hollywood shit since it didn't depict the constant brutality and randomness of war and the starvation. even the elite sniper teams didn't get that much special treatment.

They also skewed the sniper duel to be more Hollywood.

>Our guys are mentally stronk

I bet you think American Sniper isn't a propaganda film either.

>>somehow still conscious, let alone alive
It always annoys the fuck when people misuse this saying. It's
>[more likely thing], let alone [less likely thing]
Surviving the fall is more likely than surviving and being concious, so you should have said
>somehow still alive, let alone concious

/autism
>>
>>33395611
All American movies are propaganda in some form. They've got the whole "USA#1 also pls join the armed forces" thing down to a science.
>>
>>33383611
The Right Stuff is fucking amazing
>>
>>33395611
>>33395660
Listen samefag. Just because they're shit movies. Doesn't mean they're propaganda. Islam is infested with goat-fucking inbred genocidal assholes. The entire world isn't pretending to be terrorized daily by them. It's just reality.
>>
>>33395811
The world pretends the exact opposite, actually

Anyway, did you have a point there?

Thanks for taking your time to answering me, anon. And my condolences for your possible future chancellor being a socialist katholischen.

>>33395252
Anon, you may not know, but "Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter", which is in the list, is the original name of Generation War.
>>
>>33393802
This.

Enemy at the Gates is not a good movie. I don't get why /k/ keeps saying that it is.

Don't think these have been mentioned yet

I need to pick those movies to watch. The only finnish war movie that I ever seen was the 1955 original version of The Unknown Soldier. I liked it, is a good movie which slowly present the members of the unit, what help you feeling something for them when they die. But Jesus Lord, how I also felt sorry for their officer, needing to tolerate that bunch.

>muh stronk independant woman crying about men getting a job accomplished
>>
>>33392488
Like you wouldn't believe.
>>
I saw enemy at the gates in theatres with my dad.

The part where he deflowers that one girl in the trenches next to 30 sleeping ivans was awkward.

Alright thanks for listening god bless.
>>
>>33395606
I just watched that and found it boring. Some action/scenes were cool and operator but the story was too cookie cutter. Even if it was loosely based on true events.
>>
>>33396621

>killing a bunch of dudes just so a different group of dudes can come in and take over the drug trade

Be glad then. The second one is focusing on Benico's character.
>>
>>33397447

fucking why? he wasn't even that interesting of a character. he was just some overpowered super-spy with a shady pasty. at least the chick and the black fbi dude had actual character development.
>>
>>33383644
Galipoli, the Australian miniseries.

Another good one is Beneath Hill 60.
>>
>>33386941
just watched this one, pretty godly in its portrayal of firearm realism relative to its other Hollywood counterparts.

Is that the only thing you judge films on? Their plausibility?

You must not enjoy very many movies.
>>
>>33398243
I'm sorry you can't appreciate good pacing, you missed some genuinely suspenseful shit.

Missing Sicario. Consider Narcos. Consider Cocaine Cowboys.

The ending is beyond shit, and the rest is nothing to write home about. A few excellent scenes inside the tank, but that's about it.
