Found this beauty cleaning one of my building's storage areas. Am I correct in my assumption that this is a Arisaka 99? Also, if I am correct is there anyplace I can buy ammo for this rifle at a reasonable cost for less than 2 bucks a round?

Very good find for an Australian
>>
Yeah, a Type-99. No, there's really no way to buy 7.7x58mm cheaply; it's a reloading proposition.

Also, though I'm pretty sure this is just Hollywood and Pawn Stars shit. Is it rare to still find the imperial emblem on these rifles still intact?
>>
>>33382475
>Is it rare to still find the imperial emblem on these rifles still intact?
Not really; probably 40-50% of Arisakas still have their 'mum. That said, that 'mum looks like it has been defaced, probably with the edge of a bayonet or something.
>>
>>33382507
You'll need to get into reloading, good find for free, lots of people call it the best rifle of the war due to its locking strength and chrome lined barrel.

You'll need to get into reloading, you can make it from 30-06 and 8mm Mauser brass if you go slow and lube well, good news is you only need to do it once.
>>
>>33382430
>upside down pic
>not Aussie

What is this trickery?

Joking aside, nice find
>>
>>33382647
Honestly have no idea what caused the first picture to be uploaded upside down. When I took it and saved it on my PC it's right side up.
>>
>>33382564
i just started reloading for 7.7 and it doesnt save much money at all. of course, im factoring in new brass from graf and sons as well. facotry ammo is around $1.50, i think my reloads come in at $1.20.
OP, just bite the bullet and buy the expensive ammo.
>>
>>33382564
>good news is you only need to do it once

I'm sorry but my retardation is obviously preventing me from understanding this.
>>
>>33382718
Resizing is the worst part because the brass can crumple or crack and trimming is annoying, after that just reload like normal.
>>
>>33382385
Yes it's a type 99, no there is no cheap ammo. Learn to reload.
>>
>>33382692
Taken from mobile I assume? Just open it in paint and save it right side up as a new png, should do the trick
>>
>>33382699
Are you only counting your cases once when figuring out cost?
>>
>>33382756
Oddly enough it saved right side up originally

If you are feeling adventurous, you could make brass from .30-06 cases
>>
>>33382385
>>33382391
Yes, it's a Type 99 made by Kokura arsenal. If you have a close up of the left side of the receiver I can tell you the series too.
>>33382507
>probably with the edge of a bayonet or something.
Lolno. A bayonet will bend. That was made with a chisel.
>>
>>33382699

one pound of appropriate powder = ~$30 (maybe 150 rounds give or take)

one box of new production ammo = ~$30

source on the book?
>>
>>33382772
yes. once i fire all the new cases once, then cost of brass isnt apart of it but im not there yet.
>>
>>33382880
ok...whats your point? brass casings, primers, and bullets grow on trees so thats not part of the price?
>>
>>33382898
Divide the price of brass by at least 5, and 10x isn't unusual for good brass.

Here you go

Mein fucking Gott, it flipped itself again
>>

>reloading
>buying new brass
Are you legitimately retarded? Even annealing with a torch will get you 5000+ rounds out of 100 cases, and .311 bullets are not hard to find.
Hell, You can even use .309/.308 bullets. It'll still be more than enough to engage the rifling.
>>
>>33382925
No, brass casings are not part of the price. Learn to anneal, whether you do it in the oven or build an inductive annealer.
>>
>>33383049
I know for a fact you don't do any of that shit, faggot.
>>
>>33383049
so OP who has no ammo shouldnt buy factory ammo and shouldnt buy brass for reloading? i just dont get where youre coming from.
>>
>>33383081
You bet your ass I do you stupid lazy nigger. Annealing is literally the only way to save money reloading. If you don't anneal you shouldn't even reload, you degenerate piece of shit.
Except for subsonic handloads I don't even reload anymore. It takes too much time. I still anneal, you just stick the shit in the oven.
>>33383102
>one time costs are recurring costs
k
>>
>>33383162
>I still anneal, you just stick the shit in the oven.

You wanna know how I know you dont reload?
>>
>>33382925
i think the point hes making is that for the initial investment you can load waaaaay more rounds than you could buy.
brass can be reused 10+ times with proper neck sizing, and OP doesnt even need to buy expensive 7.7 brass. he can buy once fired .30-06 brass for pennies on the dollar
>>
>>33382952
21st series.

>>33383162
>I still anneal, you just stick the shit in the oven.
you anneal the case web?

>>33383305

you have to make a jig you goddamned mongs, you don't put it on a baking sheet
>>

how do you make your jig

Yep, 99Shiki, mildly defaced.
And in really nice shape. Good score!

>>
>>33383610
>>33383859
explain exactly how you anneal your cases in an oven
>>
>>33382385
shouldnt you return it to the proper owner instead of keeping forgotten shit for yourself?
>>
>>33383916

Went around the building looking to see if anyone owned it. But no one had papers of ownership or even claimed to own it. I don't even know who the hell it belongs to. If one of my previous residents asks about where the gun is, sure I'm gonna give it back (Hell might have even been one of the previous owners residents). Although they did basically leave it in the equivalent of the trash and guns are not allowed on the property unless given my approval in their lease. Which no one has even tried to talk to me about in the last few years.

Hey OP. Do me a favor:

Cycle the bolt while holding the trigger a few times.
>>
>>33384771
>and guns are not allowed on the property unless given my approval in their lease.
you cant legally enforce that dude, hate to break it to you but the courts have affirmed the second amendment applies to tenants of rental properties and landlords cant stipulate away constitutional rights. when someone rents a house, it legally affords them many of the same protections as if it is their own home. if you get a feisty pro-guns tenant, you might even be in danger of getting sued. i would have your lawyer look over your lease papers, it sounds like you just wrote them up yourself
>>
>>33387234
Hell you on about

http://www.allpropertymanagement.com/blog/2013/05/21/can-landlords-limit-their-tenants-second-amendment-right-to-bear-arms/

Just look right here and see where you made a mistake man. Though this would be a problem if I had my properties in a state that banned this type of behavior. But, in my case both my state law and city ordience allow these types of regulation on rental properties through lease agreements.
>>
>>33386745
I'm curious, what happens?
>>
>>33382718
Nevermind

Just realized you were referring to resizing the brass and not reloading the actual rounds. As I said, my retardation scares me sometimes.
>>
>>33387554
I'm assuming that he wants to see if the bolt cycles correctly or gets caught if the trigger is held.
>>
>>33387694
>>33387554
The bolt has a chance to lock up from the firing pin misaligning and you have to disassemble the gun. It's a hard problem to unfuck.
