SR25 isn't a pistol.

Pistols as I understand it are specifically forbidden to be sold to the public.

This came to light last year when the CMP announced it was going to sell surplus 1911s to the public before John McCain introduced a bill that made sale of pistols by the government illegal.

My understanding is that even before that bill, there was some special lengthy Congressional permission needed before government sales could commence. I fuggen doubt some jarhead got Congressional approval before the CMP did.

tl;dr US Government has never sold pistols in the past, and it looks like they never will. Auction is a FAAAAAAKE.

I could almost build a gun strictly from /arg/ parts though.

Let's say tomorrow a scientist invents a laser gun and it just blows conventional arms out of the water. Like it can shoot 50,000 laser beams on a single AA battery, it can be put into a rifle shaped thing that looks like an M16/M4 but weighs 1 lb, the laser beam can be tuned to penetrate less than a .22lr and more than a .50 BMG, etc. Just fucking amazing shit. And it costs like $10 to produce each rifle. Would the US military look at adopting it, provided they did some tests with it and it was rugged and durable as fuck?

If they did adopt it, would we see any milsurp (uppers, barrels, etc) coming onto the US market or would they sell that shit to another country (or give it away, or just mothball it)?
