Unimformed questions incoming:

Literally the only objects I carry every day are my wallet and a 5$ folding knife. I live in a major city and work in IT. What should I be carrying, what is the point of all this EDC stuff? Can someone explain? Also- what kind of firearm would be best for EDC in the city? Ive had my eye on the Ruger LCP II for a while but havent pulled the trigger so to speak.

Any advice is appreciated.

AIWB has not been an issue with sitting with a longer barrel - I'm lanklet and 6'1" - Yes the holster bottom can touch your junk/thigh but you can simply hike your pants up an inch or two before sitting (I don't bother) Compared to the weird pressure the 4:30 created on my back this is ez mode. I'm sitting pretty relaxed tonight but even at the desk or driving this is ezpz.

Not that guy but I'll defend his choice of the European style heel release. It's in a better location to not be accidentally released while shooting, is more comfortable in a CCW situation where you'd probably be taking cover if reloading, and it just isn't that much slower anyway. I personally wouldn't drop my magazines on the ground during a real civilian gunfight because of the fingerprints taken during my concealed permit course, I do not intend to stick around regardless of the circumstances of a defensive shooting, leaving the scene of a crime is a minor offense to never having go through a Zimmerman style trial. State has to prove 95% I had shit to do with it. Same reason I polish my cartridges too, try lifting a print from anything I leave behind.

I'd wager you've never owned a P38 or P1, or if you have it was a lemon. They're very comfortable to shoot, especially for a design that old, have strong, reliable actions, and are very accurate. The trigger is subjective, and plenty of people, myself included rather like them. The only legitimate complaint you have are the heel mag release and the sights, and while the former is a matter of choice, the latter is actually better than most contemporary handguns. The fact that competition shooters prioritize speed and so don't use heel releases doesn't make them any less comfortable for carry, nor does it change the fact that they're not much slower.

Bump up your knife quality. If you need it and it fails, you're going to be fucked. I'd say look for a 60-75 dollar knife. Most people will have phone and keys, maybe a knife. I'm an electrician, so my daily load is more work focused, but on weekends or post work, I have my phone, 2 knives, wallet, keys, flashlight, and an HK USP 45c. The flashlight is because my phone light sucks and I prefer a dedicated light to see with. It helps anytime after dark. As for a gun, pick something you would carry. Small enough to conceal, but fits comfortably in your hand. Fingerfuck a ton of guns. There is no point in buying a gun if you don't like the feel or won't carry it. Once you select, get to the range often. Try for at least once a month, doing 100+ each time. Train with it and make it your second nature. It's easy if you put effort forward.

Hows that protrusion that the claw is mounted to holding up, because Ive heard that Kydex tends to break eventually if you make thin sections like that out of it.

What are your guys thoughts on finished edges on Kydex holsters? Im kinda OCD so I try to buff the edges as smooth as possible but its a nightmare to clean the compound off and literally doubles the time it takes to make them, plus people dont really pay extra for all the effort (or even seem to appreciate it). Does a fit n finish like that bother you at all or do you not really even notice?

The 1911 and Hi-Power are still perfectly acceptable carry pieces because they've been able to be modernized and even the original variations didnt suffer from the same number of problems. theyre fun to shoot but if I carried everything that was fun to shoot I'd probably get myself killed. They aren't particularly accurate, and in regards to the trigger and sights it takes a more competent shooter to be able to perform less with it. again, my main compliant next to the heel mag release is the fact that its a full size handgun with only 8 rounds. objectively, its an awful CC gun being used only for style purposes

Holster is hardshell and covers every control, gun is DAO LEM trigger - it's actually very comforting. Simply ride the hammer with thumb while holstering - no risk at all - plus holster is long enough that it directs my pecker a little backwards, on the draw the muzzle doesn't sweep any part of you from a "ready" position. you're going to have to find a custom kydex maker, message them and ask them to make a holster for your specific light combo. If it's not a glock 17/19 with a surefire x300, you're not going to find an instock holster for it anywhere.

Anytime - carry takes time and troubleshooting to dial in, best bet is to stick with reputable vetted makers and experiment with your body type.

It's one of those things where you can read about it all day long but eventually you have to jump in with both feet and try stuff.

That said if you buy garbage gear it will take much more time to learn how to do it right

Hawke harrier elite, they were discontinued because no one bought them and the design was kind of stupid. I got mine on ebay for 15$ and for 15$ its pretty good. I Used it to chop down 5 two inch tree and the blade developed alot of play that i couldnt fix permanently. Now i use it to open cans or for self defense when i can find it.
