what's the deal with DSA's voyager line, and I guess the FAL platform in general?

Is it worth the 1k? It seems like it is, but at the same time I don't know if it's possible to just buy a receiver from them and get a parts kit and have the same thing cheaper.

What's the deal with steel case? The website says it's hard on the rifle(https://www.dsarms.com/t-ammunitionwarning.aspx), then again random aholes online claim to run steel ammo all day everyday with no issues.

For that matter, how does it stack up against the PTR91 series in cost of ownership/the rifle itself? I'm open to a G3 pattern rifle, but honestly, I'd prefer the big Belgian gommie killer.

and a side note, which shorts would look best with flecktarn/odg gear?

The fal is a good choice, but id go with the ptr91, cheaper over all. if you have the money, get a fal, they are more accurate and more reliable. On the shorts, Rhodesian shorts are the best for everything

Everyone knows the m1a is lighter than the fal and more accurate and reliable than the scar. You could actually beat someone to death with it, whereas the scar will just break if you hit someone with it.

What do you want out of a full power rifle?
PTR is accurate enough, you'll get around Minute of Communist out most BRs. If you want to reload to save on ammo, it's not your gun, unless you buy a brass deflector and ugly your gun up a bit.
Recoil isn't terrible, and you can buy improved buffers to lessen it. As well as a lot of cheap replacement parts, mags, and upgrades thanks to milsurp. They come with railz or not now on the least expensive GI models, and the newest ones have paddle mag releases, which weren't standard when I bought mine.

I have an FAL in STG58 furniture, I'd like to grab a long SA stock for it because I think it would be more comfortable.

What else do I need to get to make it match, just the handguard, and flash hider? Or do I need a new grip as well?
