You have the Khyber Pass and plenty of other small workshops churning out shitty but functional firearms on the cheap. You have the porous border with Pakistan allowing for easy access to weaponry/drugs/anything else for that matter. You have the fact that there's been a state of near-constant warfare for the last few decades meaning that firearms have been flooding into the region by default. You have the corrupt as all fuck ANP and ANA who fleece weapons to the Taliban all the time. You have foreign jihadists from all over the place who occasionally come around bringing more weaponry/gear. This isn't that hard to think through logically if you look at the history of the region. Cheap chicom rigs and AKs aren't exactly rare.

They do, however they tend to stick with combloc weaponry due to readily available ammunition. Its a hell of a lot easier to find 7.62x39 than 5.56x45. Not saying they don't use them at all, but its rarer.
