By themselves? Not very. I have one built into my multi-tool. The only reason to have a dedicated tool for it is to quick draw, and I never seem to need to snap sticks on a moment's notice.
I keep my dedicated snappers with my grandpa's fingerboxes, just because I'm kind of sentimental about the stuff.

Not OP but i recently invested about 4 grand into a custom carbon fiber nanotube stick snapper. I'm a logger who spends about 12 hours a day out in the woods cutting down trees and snapping sticks and this thing is a lifesaver. I can't even tell you how many sticks i snap every day, probably over 10,000. Before I used to snap sticks by hand and it was brutal. My hands would be worn to the bone after a week of snapping sticks. The stick snapping tool has saved me hours and hours of work and it is super light and can double as a digging tool as well as a rock crushing tool when needed. I highly recommend investing in a good stick snapper if you intend to spend any significant time outdoors, it's that good.

I have one of these stick snappers. I practice draw it from this IWB kydex holster, it came in handy. One day I got cornered by this guy. He said "yo gimme wat in yo pockets" I acted like I was going to reach into my pockets and I pulled out my stick snapper really quick and told him "I'LL SNAP YOU LIKE A FUCKING STICK" and he got all defensive and scared and told me "I was just playin chil chill" and left. I'm pretty sure I could of snapped both of his arms after doing a ninjitsu cartwheel to close the distance while disorienting him with my acrobatic marital arts.
