I bought this Mauser at a pawnshop when I was 18. I did no research and it was an impulse buy. I spent around $320. It's best to hell, but how did I do?

It came with this bubba's homemade cleaning rod
>>

No!!!

Even today it would only be worth that if it was near mint.

Amazing rifling, stock, and head spacing.

It's a turk Mauser, I'd only pay $150 - 200 based on condition today.

It's in good condition. Use it. It may not be a valuable collectible but you can use it to your heart's content. Depending on where you bought it, it may or may not have been a great buy for the price.

Yeah, a lot of people here are stuck in 2010. The days of cheap milsurp are gone, probably forever. With gun sales dropping in general, I'd expect the prices of low-endish new guns to drop too, which means that milsurp will be for collectors and not the go-to guns for poorfags looking for a cheap boomstick anymore.
>>
>>33358607
to be fair, those poorfags did the C&R community a service, by creating artificial scarcity and by hacking up old guns thereby reducing overall supply.
>>
>>33358627
How does that help collectors?
>>
>>33358627
I'm glad the cheap milsurp bubble is over. Antiques should be in the hands of people who will appreciate them, not fudds and poorfags.
>>
>>33358661
by increasing the values of the guns they already had. Admittedly it doesn't help them acquire guns in the future, but everything is a tradeoff.

EHHHH the price explosions post-Sandy Hook have been the result of mania and hoarding. Hillary is really the last of the old guard who is obsessed with gun control, more contemporary democrats aren't interested in getting bogged down in the issue. It's going to be at least another 6 months, but eventually the gun stores are going to have to sack up and take a loss while the hoarders with 100 SKS' stockpiled will have to recognize that the day of sweeping gun control will likely never come. Already some brick and mortars are clearing out their supply and biting the bullet now as opposed to waiting until the inevitable happens, which is these guys sell for about half of what they paid for pre-Nov 9.

You probably wont see the days of $70 nuggets anymore because of increased interest in milsurp weapons and, more importantly, just plain ol inflation. But prices are going to come down dramatically soon.

>>33358310
Nice Mauser. I just picked up a Yugo 24/47 myself.
>>
>>33358714
>Sandy Hook was half a decade ago

I'm not sure we can blame the continued increase in milsurp prices on that. Really, whose first response to Sandy hook was to go out and buy a nugget?

>>
>>33358677
I can't speak for other collectors, but I WISH my collection was valueless. It's make insurance much cheaper, and I'd be able to expand it faster and easier. And I'm pretty sure most collectors are of the same mind. The only nice thing about higher prices is it's a barrier for entry from fly by night bubbas.
>>33358714
>But prices are going to come down dramatically soon.
Uh huh.

you hate me :____:
>>
>>33358403
Ha, my cousin paid $450 for one back in 2012. This is why I don't buy from gun stores, they price everything way too high. Argie mausers that were sporterized to hell were $250-$350. $800 K98k's and $500 M48s.

Insuring my collection isn't a huge hassle, though I suppose I only have two dozen guns. but I agree that ease of acquisition would be nice, I don't particularly mind values increasing though.

I'll believe the dramatic price drops when I actually see it. I'm not seeing any slowdown on gunbroker milsurp sales.

$320 for a mis-matched Turkish M38 means you paid about 2x what it was worth.

Still, Happy Mauser Day, and welcome to the Turkish Rifle Club!

"K. Kale" is the Kirikkale Rifle Factory, making this a domestically-made Turkish rifle as opposed to a German-or-Czechoslovak-made rifle that was re-built in Turkey.
>>
>>33358823
>mis-matched Turkish
That's the default. Pricing on them is by grade, and having a mis-matched bolt is basically what you're going to get. Right now you can get them for 200-300. Pretty much all mismatching.
>>
>>33358607
Doesn't help that the value of the dollar has plummeted too

That's the fault of the importer, not the Turks. A matching Turk rifle is uncommon and I feel it would be worth $320.

Not great, but then again I recently paid $500 for a 1944 Aussie Enfield. The bore is the only thing close to mint, but I love the rifle.
