How would have the wars differed if the Vietnam was desert and modern middle Middle-East was jungle?
So desert warfare in the sixties and jungle warfare today?
It would swap the aesthetics of two whole generations of fudds and mall ninjas.

Hadji don't surf.
What you're suggesting is if the Shah fell in '59 to Communists, causing the US to invade Iran.
Things probably wouldn't have gone too differently. The military still wouldn't be ready to fight an extended occupation, and relations with surrounding countries would have gone from bad to worse after the Six Day War. LBJ would have still tried to stick it out, while Israel would have been far more aggressive in securing Golan Heights and the Sinai Desert. The Yom Kippur War would have had direct US involvement as a result. But in the end we'd still be pigeonholed trying to support an unpopular Christian/secularist, which would have caused Nixon to bomb Iraq like he bombed Cambodia. Saddam wouldn't have ever taken control and Kurdistan would probably exist.
Most importantly, the Soviets wouldn't have ever invaded Afghanistan since there'd already be a strong US presence there. That means no funding the Mujaheddin, no funding Al-Queda, and no 9/11.
As for a modern Vietnam, it's hard to say how that could even start as the modern mideast wars only began due to 9/11.

Basically it all comes down to marking targets and watching all kinds of heavy weapons hit the targets.
In open desert this is easier because of clear line of sight.
In jungle this is harder but if you send people into the bush, this can still be done.
When looking at the conflicts of past and present, you also have to take a look at how much support the wars got - this directly means more people and technology on the field.

It's also likely that a US invasion of Iran would be met with sanctioned from the newly formed OPEC. The rapid freeway and suburban expansion of the 1960s would have ended right there because Americans wouldn't be able to afford gas.
What would modern jungle warfare look like?

Same as before but with more rubber boots and more waders. Less defoliant and more drone strikes.

Hadjis aren't as good of fighters as gooks were.
We still train for Jungle warfare. I never did it, but I've heard from guys who have. They said it was the worst. Apparently Australia is hands down the shittiest tho.

But probably wouldn't not have switched for the M16. Would have focused on engagements at a longer distance and not suppressing fire.
>no formation of the Navy SEALS
>some other force would take their place
>the whole heroin/opium thing would still happen
>people would be more accepting of the war
>focus on long distance engagements, no adoption of M16.
>no napalm and agent orange
>the whole "blacks becoming muslim to get in touch with their roots" thing would not be as accepted.
More people would volunteer to fight in Mordern Vietnam to be closer to waifu-land
