So I bought this stuff because it was cheap as fuck and I figured it would be the same as Brake Cleaner / "Gun Scrubber" (3x cost Brake Cleaner with gun logos)

It's not kek.

On the bright side it did strip the fouling.

sometimes I spray a little Purple Power on a microfiber towel and wipe my slide. it works
>>

I use coolant from cnc machine. It's rust inhibiting and easy to get off. It has some bacteria in it so don't touch it with open wounds on your hand.

>left my nugget in the closet for a year and a half
>pull it out to go shooting
>rust everywhere in the bore even though I cleaned and oiled
Fuck me, I've been running hoppes patches through it all day and it looks a hundred times better but still worse than when I bought it.
>>
WD-40, toothbrush, compressed air, gets anything no matter how fouled clean in like a minute flat.

With the compressed air and a rag, it's now clean and dry. At this point I put nylon brushes and whatever bore cleaner I have on hand though the barrel, then wipe/blow off dry and clean.

Reassemble, oil, and compressed air to get the oil everywhere it needs to go. Wipe excess.

Any gun, no matter how dirty, it'll be cleaner than out of the factory quick and cheap. When you end up cleaning other people's guns and three dozen of your own, you pretty much end up doing this.

I actually just did my Marlin 795 this way, because I hadn't cleaned it in years and tens of thousands of rounds. Pretty much had two full ounces of fouling paste and all matters of debris out of the gun, and it was still quick and easy.
>>
>>33352415
Alternating dry/wet with hoppes patches until they come out clean. Then switch to jb non embedding bore compound, more patches. Then a final wet patch, let soak overnight, the come back and put some dry patches through. Finally, some barricade anti rust stuff. Doesn't take as long as it sounds

is it possible to run a clean patch through a nugget?
>>
>>33352415
Tbh I just spray down parts with ballistol, go have a snack and then wipe them and reassemble. Ballistol sprayed down the barrel, and then run a bore snake through it.

I had a laugh, thanks Anon.

1. Appy cleaner, scrub parts with toothbrush.
2. Rinse with brake cleaner, wipe off any condensation.
3. Repeat step 1 and 2 if necessary.
4. Apply oil and wipe off excess.

New to this gun shit

I just bought an FN-49 and it has all this corrosion around the trigger and safety. It doesn't interfere with the operation of the gun but it makes the safety a bitch to engage. Any tips on cleaning it?
>>
>>33352995
That looks like dried cosmoline, but in either case see how well a toothbrush with oil does. You may want to try fine steel wool, with oil of course.
>>

oil, nylon brushes, and tooth picks

That thick white lubricant? I could see how that'd work.
>>

>>33353033

use copper wool not steel, unless you want it to look like dogshit.
>>
>>33353051
Steel wool works in a pinch, you use it lightly with oil and it defeats light corrosion. I had a friend who used SAND PAPER to get the rust off his shotgun barrel, along with the finish. "But I got rid of the rust."

given an infinite amount of time, bore cleaner and patches could you eventually pull out a white one?
>>
>>33353358
DO NOT do this to a Glock. Something about the polymer and hot water specifically equals a problem.
>>
this is my deepest concern, that I'm cleaning wrong.

I CLP all parts to be cleaned

Toothbrush them

CLP barrel and run a bore brush through it and then push through patches until they return clean

Then I rub grease on all moving parts and reassemble.

Am I good? I do this with an AK74, a KelTec P32, and an RIA 1911.

Silicone spray you get from Lowes. It removes rust, prevents rust, and dries on the metal creating a super thin barrier against oxygen, sweat, and water. Mechanics have been using that shit for years to keep their tools from rusting to pieces. You have to completely clean your gun of all oil before you do it though, or you end up with spotting all over where you can see the film of silicone. It also lubricates.

>>33353533
It's pretty fucking good. I have a 300 Win Mag that was getting fouled pretty seriously since I hadn't run a brush through it in 500 rounds or so. Squirted a load of foam into it, waited 20 minutes like the instructions said, two dry patches, and it was perfectly clean. Like fucking surgically clean. No brushing, no bullshit, no exaggeration.

I've used it in other situations and it's always been painless like no other solvent. I'm pretty sure it could get a nugget clean without much trouble.

Just keep it away from the wood. Shit goes through wood finishes like xenomorph blood through hicks' face.
>>
>>33353533
Thats happened to me too. I Use a glass bottle now.

As for cleaning, get a package of water balloons. Fill up water balloons. Throw them around with friends and/or family. Take filler nozzle. Put into rifle chamber. Flush out corrosive salts. No wet chamber to worry about now because precision nozzle for cheap.

>>
I use Hornady one shot, hoppes, Mobil 1 5w-30 full synthetic and Mobil 1 red grease.

Toothbrushes, cleaning rods, toothpicks, cotton swabs and old t-shirts.

Fine steel wool will generally remove rust and doesn't seem to mess up finish if applied with oil.

Just disassemble and wipe clean what you can, scrub what you can't and oil afterwards. It's not that hard. Remember to leave a little bit of oil on all metal parts. Especially if you are in a humid environment. I can usually get the right amount of oil buy just wiping down my gun with the back of the rag I cleaned it with.

Fun fact most oil and gas pipelines have bacteria that will eat the damn pipe. It's called Microbial corrosion, also called bacterial corrosion. caused or promoted by microorganisms, usually chemoautotrophs. It can apply to both metals and non-metallic materials. Some sulfate-reducing bacteria produce hydrogen sulfide, which can cause sulfide stress cracking. Acidithiobacillus bacteria produce sulfuric acid.

If you're going to use stuff like brake cleaner make sure it's non-chlorinated otherwise it may damage some polymers.

Best solvent is one you can make at home gallons of for chump change.

One part synthetic ATF
One part acetone
One part mineral spirits

No it's not a recipe for a chemical weapon - google Ed's Red - it's been an old fart trick for decades.

What do you guys do to clean a gun after shooting?

Here's my routine:
>apply (Hoppes no9 via patch) or spray (ballistol) cleaning fluid down barrel
>Wait 20 minutes
>Wet bronze brush with cleaning fluid, send down barrel in direction bullet travelled (breech to muzzle)
>Run patches down barrel in same breech to barrel direction (alternate wet and dry) until clean

Am I doing it right? I do this after every range trip to anything I shoot.
Also what cleaning fluid do you guys use? I like Hoppes no 9 since it gets most shit off but I;ve been told it's bad for some rifles. I know in particular it will remove the finish off some milsurp guns. I've tried ballistol but it is far less effective than Hoppes.
>>
>>33355633
but it also clogs the fuel line right?

I took cleaning my nugget bore to the extreme, I used a 410 brass brush on a cleaning rod chucked in a drill with tons of oil, same way I helped a friend clean his bore of rust when he left it sit in a storage unit for 2 month after a long range day without cleaning it.

Right now my regular is

Breakthrough Military Grade solvent + CLP

I got a little spray bottle of Ballistol to try it out. I like how it smells like it's made from natural stuff but it left my gun feeling like I just rubbed it in burger grease. I think I'll stick to the Breakthrough + CLP routine. Honestly I am somewhat new and I don't shoot my guns enough to really know which cleaner + Lubricant best protects from corrosion. I clean my guns pretty much every time I shoot them, or with my glock every other time, and it works.
