Yes. Chicken winging helps you stabilize the rifle, but in turn causes muscle tension in your arm which fucks with your trigger pull and thus marksmanship. Stability of the rifle is far more important in combat than a soft trigger pull. A rifleman is not a marksman/sniper and vice versa and an unsupported standing position is not one you should be firing from in the first place, if at all possible.

On page 75:

It's completely true that it's detrimentary to marksmanship, but outside of specific competition, or possibly hunting at long distance, you are not going to be needing that accuracy, nor is the slight tension in your arm going to be harmful, especially in a tacticool situation.

The only thing wrong with it is with regards to effectively utilizing body armor. In all other regards, it's a superior stance for longer distance shots.

Totally a personal preference thing. Quite many people and even whole units do behave like your generic NATO squads these days tho', as pic related demonstrates.

Some people find it easier and more comfortable to chicken wing, and some guns are easier to handle like that. Plus, it's fairly similar pose as you'd be in while shooting prone.

The most important rule #1 with rifle handling is to support the gun firmly against your shoulder and the right leg placement.
