I've seen some nice 2.5-3.5 prisms I'd pop on a pistol caliber carbine or 7.62x39/.300 blk. But generally I agree, 5x is my preference for most intermediate cartridges, 6x for rifles or .22 LR (as the targets are typically smaller).
