Got a job working for an armored transportation company. Relatively small company compared to like Brinks or Dunbar, so vests and ballistics are supplied by the employee.

My question is what do you guys recommend when it comes to armor. Something that isn't bulky, and uncomfortable to wear while driving, but holds up and offers the most protection while still being comfortable. Price is a concern but obviously I'd prefer quality over quantity.

I don't know a whole hell of a lot when it comes to amror ratings either, so be conscious of that when explaining

You're not in Washington are you?
>>
>>33347952
You should by a briefcase plate carrier so you can hold extra plates in a threat situation.
>>
>>33347952
Don't wear anything. You'll spend the next 20 years doing cash delivery.
>>
>>33348079
No. Indiana.

>>33348108
I work in the coin vault technically
But they're so short handed on drivers that I get thrown on some of the routes.

Just need something that gives me and my gf a little peace of mind.
>>
>>33348149
Well I prefer rifles. Sounds like you need a pistol.
>>
>>33347952
As a current armed messenger don't bother. None of the budget options you'll like and the good stuff is too expensive for what you make. Unless you're working in Chicago or LA don't bother. You won't wear it 90% of the time because it'll be too hot and the truck A/C will be broken and you'll literally die of heat stroke if you wear armor. Invest in a good set of under shirts that are comfortable in hot weather, a comfy gun belt, and a good holster.

Use your head and situational awareness, communicate with your driver/partner/team and you'll be fine. Remember, you're driving an armored box, use that. It's better than a vest anyways.
>>
>>33348197
My route does go to Chicago. We have a stop at the Brinks depot on the south side, and we make stops downtown.
>>33348182
I am armed. But so is everyone else.
>>
why are you allowed to carry a gun or even own body armor? I don't think regular civilians should be allowed to do that. If someone needs your money that you're transporting just hand it over. It's insured anyway and they probably need it to buy food for their families. I can't believe you would try to shoot at another person, how shitty of a human could you be? this whole thread is disgusting.
>>
>>33348279

Okay, memester

>>>/b/
>>
>>33348279
Almost.
Almost.
You went too hard with that last sentence and gave yourself away.
>>
>>33348048
Why are you such a dickweed? This isn't a question for a qtddtot thread.
>>
>>33347952
How much do you get paid? is it worth it?
>>
>>33347952
When I interviewed at Dunbar, they said their issue sidearm was a Taurus .38spcl Revolver. Consequently, guards were encouraged to bring their own pistols to work.
>>
>>33348420

10.50 so no
>>
>>33348484
I work in a fucking old folk's home serving up food to old people and I earn more than you. You poor man, get a better paying job.
>>
>>33348484
So you get paid $10.50 and they make you buy your own gear? Jesus christ do you have to pay for the gas for the truck too?
>>
>>33348233
Jesus, ofc you're in Chicago. In that case check out Safe Life Defense. It's the best budget options I've personally found. See if you can get the large side straps as the 4 point ones are just a hassle.

If you are willing to spend around $600 check out SKD and the Paraclete LVBC and Point Blank panels they have for it. It has a little bit more coverage.
>>
>>33348484
I used to get payed $14.00/hr plus comission and tips at a resort and all I had to do was fold towels and pick them back up after they were used
>>
>>33348484
Christ man, I make $14/hr doing the same job in safe as fuck WA. What shit ass company do you work for?
>>
>>33347952
You mind surplus vests? You can get something like this pretty cheap.

Literally came on this board today to ask this.

Currently, I'm looking at either the point blank guardian with molle, or the survival armor raid carrier.

Point blank:

http://www.bodyarmoroutlet.com/pb-agua-guardian-front-opening-outer-carrier.html

About $200

Survival armor:

https://www.cgwholesale.com/Survival-Armor-Raid-Carrier-with-MOLLE-or-standard-sewn-on-pockets_p_1672.html

About $150

Any thoughts?

Also, if anyone else knows of any zip up ones that aren't made to look like a uniform shirt, that'd be great.

None of those come with armor that will be the most expensive part. Also, molle for armored car work is a little bit cringe. You stand out, and you don't want to stand out, to customers or management. If you want the MOLLE to carry stuff just out it on your belt. Here's my setup for work.
>>
>>33348918
None of the carriers you linked come with armor*

Sorry, phone posting while doing chores.
>>
>>33348720
Tell me your girl job. the job you do women also do.

Not him btw.
>>
>>33348918
>>33348928

Copfag here.

I'm not OP.

I already have the armor and such, I'm just looking for a zip on/off soft armor carrier.

I'll be putting an AR mag pouch on there as well as an admin pouch, set of spare handcuffs, glove pouch, small ifak, and anything else that won't really fit on my duty belt.

I'd get one of those probably.

>>33347952
I do the same work and ended up with a level IIA vest. I was thinking of getting a III or IIIA vest, but the shop I went to recommended IIA for it being thinner and easier to move in.

It's still a stiff fucking board when you get it but it gets better when it's broken in.

>>33348149
>work in coin vault
>get sent on route periodically
Nigga, I wouldn't even bother, the likelihood you'd need it is quite low.

>>33348233
>Shitcago
nvm senpai desu senpai, get the IIA or IIIA, if you're limited on route wearing it won't hinder you too much for short periods.

Garda and Brinks lets their guards wear molle vests.

We can use external carriers but they have to be uniform carriers.
>>
OP, you're much more likely to be stabbed and most standard pistol vest wont protect you from knives, I'd get a lightweight stab vest, otherwise you'll end up not wearing it because it's stiff and hot.

Where in WA? I used to drive up in Blaine.
>>
>>33348976
Sorry, I thought you meant you were also armored car.
>>33349093
I know they allow MOLLE, I work for one of the mentioned companies, it's just that it is not necessary and pouches in the front and side get in the way. If you want it, get it. My personal experience going gear queer with work stuff is that it gets in the way, and it means questions and attention from customers and randos that's just annoying.
>>33348964
Nigga what? How is that relevant? Of course women do this job. They're also entirely useless, but yeah, they are hired.

Literally worst part of the job, plus it makes me nervous as fuck and puts me on edge for the rest of the stop
>>
>>33350741
They typically sell them separately. The company I bought mine from sells ones the same size as esapi plates, though much thinner, for about $75.
>>
>>33350741
what I posted here make 3a, stab, and spike vests, theyre expensive/heavy.
>>33349034
>>
>>33350741

Most british surplus vests are stab/bullet resistant
>>
>>33347952
Probably a soft armor plate carrier with Level IIIa protection that allows for medium to large size SAPI inserts. Police surplus can be had for pretty cheap. Just a IIIa vest would probably be okay though, considering your most common threats would be thugs with pistols.
>>
>>33348484
Fuck that bullshit. I clean aircraft crankshafts for $12.50/hr. Armored car jobs are fucking awful.
>>
>>33349093
That vest looks snappy as fuck.

Never felt better about my job than listening to a bunch of Hi point wielding jamals complain about their min wage jobs.
>>
>>33348484
I make more than that at my much larger armored car company. Not a hard job. Good part time for the money but not a job to live off of.
>>
>>33349614
I work as private security. I barely do anything. I open doors, talk with the guy, his wife and daughter. Just be a guy with a gun who's there.
>>
>>33347952

I have a level II vest that is comfortable enough I think it got it for around $220. I'd recommend that unless you are worried about getting shot at with rifles.
>>
>>33348541
As a nurse I agree.
>>
>>33349532
Did you buy that m9a3?
