Nowhere. The conventional wars of XX century are a thing of the past. War in Syria is the new normal. The warring parties (Iran and Saudi Arabia, Russia and the US) have no desire to fight each other directly, so they back the strongest horse or fund proxies. Therefore, the conflicts in 3rd world sandboxes will continue as long as regional and global players profit from them. Or alternatively, until they all come to a solution acceptable for everyone.
