Actually, it pretty much is. .22 is approximately the same diameter as a 1/4" roofing nail. Pound one of those into your chest for a while and see how long it takes until you don't want to do anything but get medical attention. And that's with a projectile entering your body way slower than any bullet ever will.

The vast majority of self-defense encounters are going to be against some teenage dindu who's looking for a few quick bucks to buy some weed with. Such assailants tend not to wear body armor, so pretty much anything will work against them.

The most important thing about guns is having the gun in working condition and with you. No point to have a 10mm if you are not going to bring it around.

For my full-size and compact I'm not a fan of safeties, but this is gonna be going in pockets and hideyholes. I want the safety and heavy trigger just in case. It's pretty much a belly gun anyway, just need to hit someone up close. Not many pocket .380s with safeties

There are NO commercial loadings of expanding .380 ACP ammunition that will CONSISTENTLY deliver expansion AND minimum acceptable penetration. You'll either get penetration with little to no expansion, expansion galore with not enough penetration, but seldom both.

Yes, there are onsie-twosie examples where one test or another had a few of the shots actually squeak out both penetration and expansion... but not something you could count on.

With .380, you have to choose. The smart man chooses penetration. Get quality FMJ ammo loaded to operate reliably in your firearm-- usually, this means 95 gr bullets at about 950 FPS.

Look, expanding ammo is just a meme. You DO NOT NEED EXPANSION. You need penetration and shot placement. That's the only thing that will give you a rapid incapacitation. Everything else just gives you a bleeding wound and an attacker still able to hurt you.
