Hello /k/. I just bought my first gas mask. I managed to find an unissued Avon M50 for $180. Comes with all in pic related. How'd I do? General CRBN/respirator thread.

I want an M17. Those are cool as fuck.
>>33341522
why does everyone keep saying this, they aren't that hard to find
>>33341522
That they are. Older filters have chromium though. So watch yourself.
>>33341522
>>33341360
you did pretty good OP , I might get one as my next mask

Jesus you're tiny.

>>33341360
You know they sell those with a 40mm threaded filter mount so you don't need to buy those expensive proprietary cassette filters. But it is a good mask, so if you find filters you're golden.
Hi, OP again. Anyone know where I can get mirrored outserts for my M50?
>>33341579
i have one but have never worn it due to the chromium 6 or whatever guy on /k/. basically he never shuts up about how some preservative in them causes cancer.
>>33341649
Noisy, but not crazy loud. Hair dryer level.

>>33341572
Fuck. I used to wear one all the time when I was a kid.
>>33342693
Have you ordered from them before? I just contacted them about trying to purchase the mirrored outsert. How long do they take to respond to you via email?
>>33341540
nah they're not hard to find, it's just that a gas mask from the 60s-90s isn't too high on the things to buy list.
I'd also like an M40 too. Those are a bit more expensive.
Anyone know what gas mask this guy is wearing?
>>33341360
Avon M50 is such a good looking mask, want one myself

does the Czech M10 pose the same health hazards as the US M17? I work an M10 for work for about two weeks a few years ago after reading that the filters were just charcoal based, it was a good time for me because the guys I was working with all had normal commercial respirators which didn't have voice boxes, meaning they had to yell to be understood while I could speak at a normal level.
I haven't worn it since but I certainly hope two weeks of pay didn't cause cancer.
>>33345752

>>33345806
>>33345753
I'm pretty sure you're good. I think it was just the US M13A2 filters that had chromium.
Even then, if a filter HAS chromium doesn't necessarily mean you're breathing it in. Only if the charcoal / carbon starts leaking, which will leave black streaks on your face.
But I'd rather not have chromium anywhere near me.

It's because you don't have much, isn't it?
Post more gas mask pictures.
>>33341360
You get a SUSAT and Heavy Exoskeleton too?
I hear Cardan has a special going, 55000 rubles for both, you Monolith scum.
if you're in some sort of situation that requires a gas mask (as in, actual chemical/biological/nuclear threats and not just tear gas) will having just a gas mask actually help you that much? I guess encountering tear gas is more likely than any combination of CBRN attacks, but won't you need more protective gear than just a gas mask?
>>33348084
Shit would eat through your filters insanely fast and the mask would probably melt to your face, but let's say you're in nuclear fallout and not a chemical/bio weapon scenario, you'd need a protective suit so radioactive particulate doesnt get absorbed into your clothes and cook you.

Can anyone hear rate the quality of an M65 Finnish gas mask?
I'm interested in it but I'm not sure if it's worth it.
Just old, cheap gas mask, probably with asbestos inside the filter. Good for collection nothing more

M10 is fine, the filters were modern and safe
Anyone know a good place besises ebay to get an M40 in good condition? I have a bunch of sealed filters but no mask. Pic unrelated.
Wet sponge respirators are still the best. You never run out of filters.
Complete newfag to gasmasks here.
Does anyone know which model these 2 are and if it's possible for me to purchase them?
>>33348706
Wdym melt to face? I thought that most modern masks have a 12 hour endurance.
>>33352579
That bottom-right panel

The M50 is rated for 24 hours. Also bayonet filters.

12hrs isn't even a full work shift. Refer to military manuals for filter longevity info, not /k/. If you are too lazy to find tech data, then it doesn't matter because you bought da cute mask to play with and you can pretend whatever you want.
Whetlerite filters are safe if undamaged.

the filters for these old gas masks will have asbestos in them, if theyve been damaged or the seal has perished you could easily end up shortening your life
>>33359682
I cram my ham and cheese sandwich up through the exhalation valve like any other normal person does.
>>33359692
You'll notice he's not wearing any filters for them, but yeah you're right. Throw away old filters or seal them in a plastic baggy and put them on your shelf if you're a collector.

Thanks dude
I found the MP5 for 110,00 zł (25,65€) which really is super cheap.
Too bad I can't find the MP6 anywhere.
I worked in a chem demil plant in the mid 2000s and had to wear an m40 off and on pretty much every other day or so. Sometimes we'd be doing our work in those fucking masks for an entire shift, though an hour or two was much more common. Weirdly, I was the only guy that went out and bought a compatible canteen, everyone else just suffered through the dry mouth.
I still can't hear certain alarm sounds without reaching for the nonexistant carrier on my hip.
Might pick me up a new one at some point, but honestly it's more of a wishlist item than a must have. Plus, I bet it's hard to get the right size and fit when I can't go to the issue and get fitted.
Total mask newbie here. Which mask would work best to have as part of a bug out bag in case of riots, unrest, etc. Target agents are riot control, particulates. Bonus if it takes commercial filters or at least filters that are reasonably available.
Thanks!
