>Israel bombing T4? SAA unable to do shit against it?
>>
I tried to post a thread about that earlier. What about Syria's claims of hitting two Israeli aircraft? What sort of AA is even running for most of Syria, barring Russian S-400s near their bases, and probably some sort of S-300s around Damascus?
>>
>>33337902
>What about Syria's claims of hitting two Israeli aircraft?

>S-200s: old, known quantities to the Israelis, in questionable states of maintenance/readiness, designed to shoot down bombers from the 60s, manned by whatever remains of the Syrian military.
vs
>F-15Is: some of the most advanced F-15Es in the skies, operated by a country and pilots with extensive experience in EW, SEAD, Syrian airspace, and generally blowing things up.

With no wreckage found, and denial by the Israelis, it's a non-starter.

More interesting is the claim Israel made that they shot down an S-200 with the Arrow system. Besides it being the first operational use of Arrow (the booster was found in Jordan, so we know it isn't bullshit), worth noting that it's very unlikely the official story that it shot down a 5V28E missile is true. It's more probable it hit a SSM fired from Syria, but the Israelis don't want to escalate matters, so they lied.

http://www.defensenews.com/articles/israels-arrow-scores-first-operational-hit-but-against-what
>>
>>33338021
Indestering , I'm not going to wade into what exactly was hit by Isreali airstrikes as I have no idea who or what was hit but I think everyone knows the Syrian government claim they shot down a IAF jet is shit.

These kind of claims make me roll my eyes at pro SAA sources almost as much as pro rebel sources trying to claim no Al Qaeda were killed at that mosque near Idlib by US airstrikes.
>>
Israel is really just looking for any excuse or opportunity to hit Hezbollah at this point, isn't it?
>>
>>33338281
Well nobody is going to stop them over Syrian airspace so why not hit Hezbollah? Same with US hitting AQ. If they think they can waltz around Idlibistan and not get hit their going to get a bomb up their ass.

I don't even know why Syria bothers firing at the Israelis anymore. Every single time they get humiliated

This time they used an ABM To intercept a fucking SAM then bombed 15 targets

Russia ignored it as always due to the good relations between Putin and netenayahu. Being Assad is suffering
>>
>>33338021
It's usually the opposite. Syria always downplays the Israeli strike so they don't have to retaliate and then get wrecked by the Israelis

Israelis regularly bomb hezbollah targets in Syria. Syrians usually ignore it because there's nothing they can do and russi allows it

Map is of the SAA on the outskirts of Deir Hafer. The last time I was doing battle updates ITT's the SAA had retreated from the outskirts of Jirah airbase. Afterward the SAA and friends decided to threaten both Deir and Jirah probably in hopes of splitting IS defenses. IS regrouped after losing about 40 odd villages/water plant the week before and a week before that retreating from Al Bab in a mass retreat from northern Syria.

Pro SAA video showing the aftermath of a IS attack on the Deir Ezzor airbase yesterday.

The Deir Ezzor airbase battle is one of my favorite to watch in Syria. It's like Jobar. No matter how many times it's attacked, it stands.

feels like its probably a lose lose regardless.

Just makes the US look bad, as we can see from the twitter ranting.

Though may be a win strategically, if they did kill someone who mattered.

Nobody gives a shit about twitter rants irl. They have yet to show any proof of the claimed number of civilian deaths and bosino dude on twitter(not a legit source either) was saying he heard about 50 to 60 HTS members were there at the time.

>>33340040

Maybe. Maybe not. Killing them during prayer time at a holy building is really, really shitty though. How will they look at it? How will they spin it (to the right rotation desu)? How many more insurgents might that create?

War is a fucking racket and this is truly becoming a continuation war that will never cease. There are better ways to take care of terrorism that legitimately does not involve killing them, yet we will never do it because it isn't profitable to our MIC.

I will admit war is an interesting spectacle when the horrors of it are not shown or some truly awesome happens and we are so disconnected to where we do not see bodies ripped asunder or giblets of fellow human beings around. Ruined buildings and torn up infrastructure. Dead animals. All that is horrible and tragic. Most people don't see that stuff though, so it's not what they think of when war happens or a battle or even a drone strike. 99% of them aren't mentioned or reported on, so the public is unaware.

With the recent hysteria against Muslims being reignited though, I wonder if they would even care. When one American citizen takes out a few people, everyone gets riled up into a frenzy of both fear and hatred. Imagine if we were drone striked. Imagine if we had artillery fired at us. Imagine a bombing campaign against our civilian centers justbecause they may be harbouring or frequented by potential insurgents. The entire Bible Belt would go insane if a church were hit because a militia leader was there on a Sunday. They would go legitimately insane. Hell, people are already attacking mosques that have nothing to do with any sort of terrorism here. People are attacking fucking Indians because they think they're Muslims. Stupid fucking Cletus motherfuckers can't even kill the right brown people.

It's all bullshit.

Why? It wouldn't be any worse than the terror they unleashed suicide bombing Shiite religious gatherings all over Iraq.

Honestly, the Sunni population needs to be taught a little bit of true war of extermination. If they think the Americans are going to back off at their leisure, they need to be proven wrong.

Mattis said this and he is delivering on the promise.

But picturing clearing buildings or trenches with that thing sounds fun. I'm assuming that's its designed use, Latakia rebels. For clearing dense tree cover and mountainous trenches.

>"Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis spoke today by telephone with Deputy Crown Prince and Minister of Defense Mohammed bin Salman of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to discuss the strong U.S.-Saudi defense partnership. In their first conversation, Secretary Mattis thanked the minister of defense for Saudi Arabia's contributions in countering ISIS around the world. He reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-Saudi Arabia strategic relationship, particularly to countering new and emerging security challenges in the Middle East. Secretary Mattis also noted his desire to consult closely with Saudi Arabia on security issues of mutual concern."

This is within the first two weeks of Trump's term in office, by the way.

Hint-hint: Hezbollah doesn't like America. And they don't just hate America because of Israel. At the end of the day they are Islamic revolutionaries that would still despise America and our influence, even if Israel suddenly didn't exist tomorrow. Same with Iran, who bankrolls them. Of course, though, they get to play the good guys for now, because they are fighting ISIS. If history has shown anything, it is that the enemy of your enemy is not inherently your friend, and the Hezzies are no different.

Today there are claims IS has attacked near Salamiyah and the Khansier road is closed. The SAA has already put forces in place on the route however it is a long front line and IS has nowhere else left to go.

>>
>>33356815
Israel not wanting to escalate was in reference to matters with Syria, which the Israelis don't have (much) qualm with.
Truth be told, the Israelis don't want to escalate with Hezbollah either. The attacks are few and far between; they could be coming in much greater frequency. Israel not taking responsibility relieves Syrian parties from looking weak. Hezbollah also cannot argue they are defending Lebanon if they retaliate, since the strike didn't occur on Lebanese soil, preventing conflict on the Lebanese border.

>for no real reason except 2006 butthurt
Israel's relationship with Hezbollah goes back to the first Lebanon War in the 80s.

Jobar was always connected; you mean probably Qaboun. And of course rebels taking further clay in eastern Damascus is going to effect the SAA. They were supposed to take these suburbs at the edge of Eastern Ghouta not getting their shit kicked in.
If they capture some significant positions (and hold themn!!!) it would also counter the narrative that Assad has already won the war and its just mopping up operations from now on

But like always, we have to wait how it plays out. Maybe its just a desperation move by Jaish and HTS and precedes a rebel collapse in the SAA counterattack, like it happened at Aleppo

The SAA repelled a large IS attack on the airbase the other day. Other than that the SAA has not been able to retake the cemetery so the city is still cut off from the airbase. IS seems more worried about the SDF to the north than Deir Ezzor right now. Basically the SDF/YPG saved the SAAs skin in Deir for the time being.

The IDF loves to do this to terrorist groups/actors who in the midst of their butthurt, boast about how they are totally going to get back at Israel - and either don't do shit or get BTFO. All Israel wants to hear is "OK Israel, fine keep your shitty stolen land, we won't bother you anymore", but typical Arab pride and need to save face perpetuates the conflict, to the demise of millions of otherwise innocent Arabs who are forced into a battle they cannot ever hope to win. Everything they try Israel can counter 100x more effectively. A few examples:

>Hamas spams children with suicide vests into Israeli territory
IDF build a wall so tall even Trump is envious - suicide bombings drop to zero

>Hamas launches 600 gorrillion rockets.
IDF invents missile defense shield capable of stopping bottle rocket barrages while instantly finding the source so a JDAM is already en-route

>Hamas digs tunnels under border in order to launch sneak attacks
IDF invents tech that locates the precise location of tunnels and uses ancient Jew magick to cause them all to cave in.

>Hezb/Iran threatening to use ICBM spam
IDF invents an even better ICBM shield - and tests it out on a goddamn 70's era SAM just for keks

Everything the Arabs have tried, the Jews have figured out a way to stop or make too costly. Russia knows this, and thus is staying the fuck out of their way despite many people thinking Putin is somehow anti Israel (there are a million Russian Jews in Israel and half a million still left in Russia).
>>
>>33359825
I would love to see the UN response if Israel bombed one of Assad's infamous killing prisons and accidentally killed a Syrian babby in the process.

The leader of HTS is indeed Hashim as-Shaykh, the ex leader of Ahrar ash-Sham.
HTS got some attention since the US Military forces explicitly stated that they still consider them as al qaeda.
The US strike with the 49 death of (((civilian))) was aiming at them.

Their enemy was Assad and the Kurds. Why should they attack the one who fights against both?

And no, just invading and defeating all parties and occupying all of syria is not an realistic option for them.

I dont want to say that their policy pre-ES was successful, but that was rather because of too many and contradictory strategic objectives without wanting to get directly involved in the syrian mess (same problem as with the american policy)

Wild guess it might be using 2A28/SPG-9 ammunition, perhaps with a custom pop charge. Barrel looks like its on a recoil assembly and the smoke discharge seems off for RPGs. And 2A28 ammunition is orphaned since Daesh use BMPs for SVBIEDs.

Yeah, I do. I'm generally supporting the kurd cause. Doesn't mean I stand behind every bullet and bomb. It's been rough to watch the US support them in word but not in action or supplies, lest their NATO pal Turkey throws another fit. Having Russia step in would be an improvement, at least to my uneducated eyes. Since the Russkis also support Assad it might be a step toward a working peace in the region. And you can say what you want about Russia in recent years but they have been a dependable ally in more than words.

SOHR on the SAA re taking most of what they lost yesterday in Jobar as are clashes ongoing and airstrikes.

http://www.syriahr.com/en/?p=63176

SDF/YPG took another village in northern Raqqa today against IS and lastly Khanasir , Khanasir ,Khanasir. I can't say it enough as a ongoing battle with IS runing diversionary attacks to keep the heat off of Deir Hafer, which they are close to losing. This is the last area nearby where IS can kick the SAA in the balls and the SAA has to guard it.

This is true. The difference between the kurds and the shias in Iraq govt is that the kurds had all the fighting spirit while the shias had all the weapons. So the kurds fought back, with little more than Kalashnikovs, while ISIS got Iraq Army armor and arty giftwrapped.

A weird what if is if ISIS was just allowed to win. Cause arguably without western and Russian intervention you'd practically see them celebrating V-day at this point. Begs the question in my mind if they are so strong to actually win why not just let them and the region can reap what it sows? But i guess the answer to that is obvious as well.

but Chileans can be used to remove commies. Chilean mercs are known to travel abroad (there are reports that Chileans are in Yemen with Academi).

We can take our commie removal skills and apply them in Venezuela.

Also, been a while since i've visited Chile, I could kill for some chupe de jaiva. Is la gordi still fucking things up over there?

To keep my post on topic i'll do some updates; AH-64D was spotted to the east of Raqqa supporting SDF units there.

The Kurds are on the verge of threatening to cut off Raqqa's direct link to Deir Ezzor. If done, ISIL will have its supply lines strained and will have to do a massive loop if it wants to move supplies and men.

SAA units in Aleppo are advancing south of the town of Dayr Hafir with Tiger Forces having reportedly captured the towns of Al-Quser and Jani All-Sallameh

I am betting on Turkey. Govt is getting stronker and stronker which makes their tower taller and thinner for every day. PKK won't be starting shit up, nor Gulen. But someone in Turkey were awfully good buddies with IS, for long enough to some serious oil money to have been placed in say Cypriotic banks for the right day. One Erdogan-controlled army massacre, even caused by a misunderstanding, and poof kaboom. It is not going to be a good day for anyone, least of all for the rest of Europe.
>>
>>33370528
not just that, the purges conducted in the aftermath of the attempted coup left the army weaker than it already was. In addition to that, the subordinates of those imprisoned or purged will most likely want some sort of revenge. Hell, that's exactly why the coup happened in the first place, the army officers were angry that their generals and mentors were being slowly weeded out. (well that's what i've read so far).

I don't know about that. A cold war is when two countries are ready to fight each other and there is a tug of ropes between the hawks and doves on both sides. I don't see the US or Russia being particularly interested in that now; they are not fighting any proxy wars or anything. But things are still tenser right now than they have been for a long time, even if it doesn't seem like it. On the diplomacy level the current state is an actual disaster. It is Europe which is going to get the next blue eye, I think. Our armies are weak, the eastern states are unhappy as fuck but joining NATO has never been scarier - both because of Russia' reaction and because NATO is maybe just a couple of presidential twitters away from chaos. I feel for our friends in Sweden and Finland in particular.
>>
>>33370563

Sweden has brought this on itself, they don't deserve anything better. Finland I do have sympathy for, but then again they can just keep doing what they've done since the 40's.
There's no reason for them to suddenly buddy up with the NATO bloc, and there's no reason to seriously think Russia would invade them without strong provocation, like allowing the US to use their country as a staging ground for an invasion.
>>33370792
In any scenario where Finland gets invaded the Baltic states would be too, that would mean Germany, Poland and the US would get involved as well. I don't doubt Finland would be able to hold their ground against an enemy stretched thin fighting on several fronts. Not to mention that Russia would be committing international and economic suicide and the fact that this would most likely never happen without triggering a nuclear war. It's a non-issue that people get hysterical about for little reason.
>>
>>33370838

Without getting into semantics: things ARE tense on the diplomatic level between Russia and NATO. Even if the military forces are not lined up on the borders. I don't think war is around the next corner but there could be other repercussions within the next couple of years.
