I tried to post a thread about that earlier. What about Syria's claims of hitting two Israeli aircraft? What sort of AA is even running for most of Syria, barring Russian S-400s near their bases, and probably some sort of S-300s around Damascus?

More interesting is the claim Israel made that they shot down an S-200 with the Arrow system. Besides it being the first operational use of Arrow (the booster was found in Jordan, so we know it isn't bullshit), worth noting that it's very unlikely the official story that it shot down a 5V28E missile is true. It's more probable it hit a SSM fired from Syria, but the Israelis don't want to escalate matters, so they lied.

Map is of the SAA on the outskirts of Deir Hafer. The last time I was doing battle updates ITT's the SAA had retreated from the outskirts of Jirah airbase. Afterward the SAA and friends decided to threaten both Deir and Jirah probably in hopes of splitting IS defenses. IS regrouped after losing about 40 odd villages/water plant the week before and a week before that retreating from Al Bab in a mass retreat from northern Syria.

I will admit war is an interesting spectacle when the horrors of it are not shown or some truly awesome happens and we are so disconnected to where we do not see bodies ripped asunder or giblets of fellow human beings around. Ruined buildings and torn up infrastructure. Dead animals. All that is horrible and tragic. Most people don't see that stuff though, so it's not what they think of when war happens or a battle or even a drone strike. 99% of them aren't mentioned or reported on, so the public is unaware.

Yes in fact I mentioned before the SAA is waiting for IS to come near the Khansair supply route. This whole area is hot.

Today there are claims IS has attacked near Salamiyah and the Khansier road is closed. The SAA has already put forces in place on the route however it is a long front line and IS has nowhere else left to go.

Truth be told, the Israelis don't want to escalate with Hezbollah either. The attacks are few and far between; they could be coming in much greater frequency. Israel not taking responsibility relieves Syrian parties from looking weak. Hezbollah also cannot argue they are defending Lebanon if they retaliate, since the strike didn't occur on Lebanese soil, preventing conflict on the Lebanese border.

I am betting on Turkey. Govt is getting stronker and stronker which makes their tower taller and thinner for every day. PKK won't be starting shit up, nor Gulen. But someone in Turkey were awfully good buddies with IS, for long enough to some serious oil money to have been placed in say Cypriotic banks for the right day. not just that, the purges conducted in the aftermath of the attempted coup left the army weaker than it already was. In addition to that, the subordinates of those imprisoned or purged will most likely want some sort of revenge. I don't know about that. A cold war is when two countries are ready to fight each other and there is a tug of ropes between the hawks and doves on both sides. I don't see the US or Russia being particularly interested in that now; they are not fighting any proxy wars or anything. But things are still tenser right now than they have been for a long time, even if it doesn't seem like it. On the diplomacy level the current state is an actual disaster. It is Europe which is going to get the next blue eye, I think. Our armies are weak, the eastern states are unhappy as fuck but joining NATO has never been scarier - both because of Russia' reaction and because NATO is maybe just a couple of presidential twitters away from chaos. I feel for our friends in Sweden and Finland in particular.

Sweden has brought this on itself, they don't deserve anything better. Finland I do have sympathy for, but then again they can just keep doing what they've done since the 40's.
There's no reason for them to suddenly buddy up with the NATO bloc, and there's no reason to seriously think Russia would invade them without strong provocation, like allowing the US to use their country as a staging ground for an invasion.

In any scenario where Finland gets invaded the Baltic states would be too, that would mean Germany, Poland and the US would get involved as well. I don't doubt Finland would be able to hold their ground against an enemy stretched thin fighting on several fronts. Not to mention that Russia would be committing international and economic suicide and the fact that this would most likely never happen without triggering a nuclear war. It's a non-issue that people get hysterical about for little reason.

Without getting into semantics: things ARE tense on the diplomatic level between Russia and NATO. Even if the military forces are not lined up on the borders. I don't think war is around the next corner but there could be other repercussions within the next couple of years.
