Do Eagle Scouts still get an automatic promotion?
>>
Yes. Quality thread, well worth bumping another and taking the load off Google's severs.
>>
>>33337621
In my day they did. Automatic e2 in the Marines. I got it for having 12 college credits.

The DIs fucking hate Eagle Scouts tho. Because they teach you how to drill, but teach you wrong. So they always come off as teachers pet because they've done it for years, but wrong for years, so tons of bad habits to break.
>>
>>33337621
>he doesn't have his merit badges alphabetized, what a faggot
>>
>>33337680
This. My DI found out I was an Eagle Scout and raped me.
>>
>>33337621
It should be illegal to wear that shit over the age of 13.
>>
>>33337722
Wouldn't you be a tenderfoot at age 13?

>not wearing the eagle epaulets
>>
I think it's automatic E-2 in pretty much all services, unless something has changed and they're REALLY trying to get higher-quality recruits through the doors
>>
>>33338657
Missing the World Scout Emblem as well.
>>
>>33338657

>>
>>33337621
It's an automatic E2, which everyone gets after 6 months anyway.
>>33337722

>>33337680

>>

It's the least important skill in the military. Only Norks, Chinks and Slavs pay attention to it. Not an issue.
>>
>>33337734
I've seen Scouts who got Star Scout before the age 13.
>>
>>33338755
Wasn't a scout. I know many do, probably depends on troop leader. Some treat scouts like JROTC.
>>33338773
Get promoted 6 months faster than anyone else. Like I said mine was from college credits.
>>33338801
No shit Sherlock. No one does it but in boot camp. But you do ALOT of it in bootcamp.
>>
Why do Americans wear their badges on a big sash like something out of Thunderbirds? My troop wore them on a removable brassard, you could take it off when playing sport and put it in your pocket so it wouldn't get dirty.
Also
>That fucked up unironed scarf
>>
>>33338945
Most people don't wear the sashes except for ceremonies.
>>
>>33338945
Do you unironically think BSA wears the thing all the time. I know I only threw mine on for formal shit.
>>
>>33338945
I don't ever remember wearing a sash except for ceremonies, same for the scarf.

>>
>>33338993

You do but consider the fallowing.

1. You already get promoted to E-2 6 months in just like everyone else. Only thing is your just slated faster to E-3 faster but more likely to be terminal.

2. You get fucked with for being a Virgin ES (Eagle Scout) who thinks they know shit but don't really know much other then walk my old lady across the street.

3. Have fun getting fucked with by your DI/DS or whatever branch you choose.

4. Looks good if you want to go OCS and some congressman will sign you off for college into an OCS program.

5. Just me personally I was never fond of the ES kids they always were not willing to take risks in the fleet and were to whimpy to go get into Terminal hood rat shit trouble. Plus it's like a given +100 chances they are Blue Falcons.
>>
>>33339236
My troop only had to wear the uniform shirt. Really sucked when we would go on camporees or summer camps because everyone would show up in half a uniform and we'd be the laughing stock of the camp each time.

here in Alabama, when went go to summer camp our troop was always the best dressed, even though we just required scout pants and a class a. Some other troops would have kids wearing a class a shirt with fucking blue jeans. The worst was this tiny troop of 5 boys who wore class a shirts with fucking ATHLETIC SHORTS.
>>
>>33340111
My troop was like that, fucking basketball shorts and uniform shirts.
>>
>>33339617
My troop barely could ass themselves to put on the uniform shirt, but only the super serial types got angry at us at summer camps. We got away with it because we were a bit of a screwball troop.

>>
Eurotrash here, was in one of the transatlantic troops for a few years during childhood because I genuinely like scouting, and I always thought the American uniforms were nicer than our own uniforms.
Then again the BSA had more rules about the uniforms than my native troops where having your uniform shirt tucked made you a target for mockery as you'd be seen as a nerd.

Never bothered getting an eagle though, I liked the activities but I didn't like the whole rush to get the merit badges and get to an eagle.

Class A's are fucking gay, and everyone knows it. Nobody wants to wear that shit.

Honestly, boy scouts is fucking ruined beyond recognition.

>Doing winter survival course
>have to make a camp and spend 2 nights in it
>only allowed to bring food, water, a knife, clothes, and 3 matches
>like 18 troops doing it
>We actually had our shit together, gave people jobs and expected them to do them, etc.
>Only troop to have real shelter by night one, only troop that kept the fire going all night
>Temperatures dropped below zero and all the pussy shits in their tiny stick piles with no fire were giving up
>started to snow
>ended up being like 6 inches
>At the final morning we were the last troop left, we finished with 2 man shelters for everyone, hot soup, 2 matches, and a goddamn flagpole.

Watching a bunch of scrubs walk past us from whatever heated shelter of shame they had spent the last two nights in was probably my best memory of scouting.

Other than that it was a bunch of bookwork and following stupid rules so nobody would get "hurt"

The point is that if someone ever tells you they're an eagle scout and expects you to give a shit, tell them to go fuck themselves.

t. Eagle Scout
>>
>>33337621
yeah E2
>>
>>33344084

I have similar memories of scouts. I probably eagled out right before it got all faggy. Both of my brothers eagled out around the same time (I spent too much time doing stupid shit instead of merit badge/advancing).

We had so much fun, backpacking, cliff diving, etc. After that it became an "inclusive troop"

fuckin liberals.
>>
>>33344097
>backpacking
Oh god, right before I left we were doing an overnight "backpacking" trip.
>1 night
>total 7 miles
>on trails
>say fuck it, this is some gay shit
>everyone is talking about packing light, how to do that stupid sock thing that just ruins your socks, etc.
>do I bring an extra pair of socks? I dunno? Is it worth the weight?
>kill me
>Open up the scout storage shed
>pack the fucking dutch oven
>pack firewood
>pack a cooler and bring some milk and meat
>everyone gets to camp, starts eating their shitty ass "dinner"
>get a nice fire going
>we were camping above the treeline by the way, cmon kids, you're not going to get wood
>get some good coals
>make delicious venison stew
>have a nice cool glass of milk
>see looks of hunger and despair around me
>disperse soup among the proletariat and let them sit around my glorious fire
>explain that packing too light is as bad as packing too heavy, and how you can still backpack in comfort if you're willing to carry shit

I don't even want to talk about the overnight canoe trip we did, that was a fucking disaster. Just imagine everything possible that kids could fuck up, short of drowning, and they fucked it up.

I also volunteered to man the fucking horrendously overladen monstrosity that was our "gear canoe" because it was the only way I could get a canoe to myself. I felt like fucking York though.

Pretty much my experience with scouting anywhere past cub scouts
( I'm >>33343140)

I signed on all "WOOOHOOO, CAMPING AND KNIVES AND FIRE AND GUNS 'N SHIT!" And found out it was all a bunch of extra "safe" activities.
I had a badass for a Cub Scout den leader though. We played some damn good games of dodgeball and CTF. Learned to not cut ourselves to shit (and what to do if we did).
Learned to actually do shit and not just watch.

Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if my old den leader was here.
Opie, on the off chance you're reading this, I hope you know you were a damn fine den leader.

>I set a record, burned through my rope, the ropes of the guys on either side of me, the stands they were using to hold the rope, everything
>people organizing it couldn't do shit with their piddly sand piles, held up the competition for like 2 hours as they waited for the fire to go out and rebuilt the competition area

Don't tell me to make a fire and then get upset when I make a goddamn fire
>>
>>33344097
i sat through a diversity briefing for 4 hours because my two army Col scoutmasters were concerned that we didn't have enough nonwhites in the troop, that was when I lost interest, but I still made eagle and I'm an ASM now since my campus is close to home. I too have some really fond memories of scouts, backpacking, paddling, climbing, biking, shooting etc... if it wasn't for scouts I wouldn't have the love of the outdoors I do today. As an eagle, I think people who brag about being one outside of scout circles are fucking autists
>>
>>33344347
I'll talk about it when asked, its on my resume so it does come up from time to time. A lot of that has to do with the fact that as the culture at large becomes more and more pussified the Christian churches becomes more pussified and the scout troops that churches run also become more pussified.

Catholics and Mormons are the only two groups I know of who give a damn about all the pro-queer and anti-male shit the BSA keeps pushing but Catholics are having their own issues with breakdown of identity and Mormons are having the same problem with gradual erosion, just slower.

The real problem at hand isn't the BSA or culture (though those are important issues) so much that the one institution that should be standing fast in these time is giving way: the Christian churches. If I hear one more dumb, mouthbreathing cunt tell me "I know you probably have a lot of stereotypes about Christian churches, but ours is different. It's very non-denominational, non-judgmental, and very inclusive. You should come visit us anon!” I am going to bust out a cross of my own and nail that dumb cunt to it. There are more churches that are “different” this way than not these days.

Yeah, I've gotten shit like this too. The whole media propaganda they run is really successful. Everyone thinks Eagle Scouts are super competent cream of the crop types trained to perform any task. Maybe it was true twenty or thirty years ago, but now it's just another "everybody gets a medal" bullshit hugfest.

>>33344393
Eh, I made it through as an atheist, so I can't really bitch about inclusion. The problem is, in my opinion, that people don't understand what the word inclusion means. When you're in someone else's house, you follow their rules. I helped out with the church stuff, I did the church things, and in general tried to make it as little of an issue as possible, out of respect.

The modern definition of "inclusion" is telling people that they have to change what THEY'RE doing in THEIR groups so YOU can fit in better. And that is fucking terrible.

>>33338945
Sash is worn purely for ceremonial purposes with Class A's, it can be tucked out of the way by folding it in half and putting one side through your belt, but most of the time it's omitted from the uniform for meetings, and troop T-shirts with jeans or the green trousers are worn for work uniforms and outdoor functions. As for the neckerchief, troops are given the option of everybody wearing it loosely above the collar, or neatly rolling it and turning the collar down over it. My troop did the latter, and it looks a hell of a lot less sloppy.
>>
>>33338657

Until you realize that promoting in the corps takes fucking ages. Getting E2 6 months early, then getting two guys to join to get you E3 early saves you over a year of time in service for getting E4. I got in trouble a lot for things like shooting bug spray into flames, killing animals with slingshots and skinning them, and having a pencil stuck in the front of my pants to look like a boner at a huge flag retiring ceremony with 3 other troops. I was regarded as one of the better boys in my troop. Some guys killed some endangered kind of duck in a national park with a rock so our troop had to get a lawyer and wasn't aloud to do shit. We went on an overnight skeet shoot and our chaperones got hammered and let us try to shoot with the shotguns behind our backs and heads. We also crashed and totaled a rental John Deere Gator.

If you're troops bitched out and things like untucked neckerchiefs you sound like moto fags that missed out.

When it stopped having anything to do with the church
>>
>>33356029
It was headed that way when I Eagled in 2008. My first Boy Scout campout, we set shit on fire and I went home in an ambulance after getting hit in the face with a log. We basically did a bunch of cool shit in the woods and played manhunt in the dark, and then would do service projects on non-campout weekends.
But my last year, all the new kids were hesitant about doing any cool shit, one's mom wouldn't even let him bring a fuckin' pocket knife. There's a long, slow, steady decline from the 80's through now of less risk, more safety, and more lame-ass shit.

Did get to go to Philmont with the OA Trail Crew, that shit was boss as fuck.

Yep, if you enlist and you have CAP, Eagle Scout, or some amount of college credit you can bump up. I'm in AFROTC, but I contracted at E-3 because I had 30+ college credits.

>It's the least important skill in the military. Only Norks, Chinks and Slavs pay attention to it. Not an issue.

Drill itself is useless, but it conditions people into following orders without thinking about how stupid those orders might be, literally basis of military discipline. It still has purpose.

My DS never even asked or cared why guys were E-2s, E-3s and E-4s in basic. He was too busy actually instructing/disciplining us to care.

Why wouldn't you want to go backpacking, climb mountains, learn to sail, sleep in caves, lash together towers from saplings you cleared with your own ax, camp in winter, snorkle, shoot guns, burn shit, and go borderline lord of the flies every summer at camp?

If you're lucky enough to have a good troop with adults that let the boys run things (they're there to mentor and in case of emergency; not to stifle youths) it is badass. Maybe we got lucky with my troop.

The Scouts are gay as fuck. If you actually belong to that shit past the age of like 12 I guarantee you're a fucking turbo-autist

You can get your eagle at 13 and 9 months. You have to get your rank advancements as soon as the time limits allow.

I fukin hate it when kids have their shirts untucked and wearing gym shorts. I get so mad at that. Especially after seeing it week after week working out at my local scout camp.
>>
>>33365521
The only problem with venturing is it's half outdoor QTs and half crater-faced sperg girls who aren't talented enough for band.

Basically the female compliant to the average boy scout.

But Venturing is the only worthwhile thing in boy scouts these days, just got to find a good crew and youth that will actually show up to meetings.

That's what I thought until I realized I was fucking myself out of a year of pay when I found out I could get an automatic E-3 for my college credits.

The pay is already crap, there's no reason to not utilize the chance to get more with an early promotion.

You still have to wait two years for E-4 without a waiver, but it's better to ride that out as an E-3 the entire time. I mean, it might seem a little cool to think of one day looking back and seeing your crawl from E-1 to whatever the fuck you left as, but it's really not worth it.

I got my Eagle Scout at 18 but never picked up a card or had a banquet. Is that weird?
>>
>>33356056
Did both, CAP was way less interesting/fun.
>>
>>33368150
Not really, most people I've talked to got their eagle on their 18th birthday or had an extension. Most of us never had a banquet either, just said thanks for the fun times and left.
>>
>>33368123
It's not an issue with price, although I see your point. But when the kid/family can afford to attend every weekly meeting, pay dues, go camping, get new camping gear, do all this shit and 3 years in they still don't have anything even remotely resembling uniform pants, somethings wrong. My family couldn't afford uniform pants when I first joined, so I used some old green parachute pants that we got for $15 at walmart, I wore them until I was able to afford uniform pants (about 4 years later) and no one knew they weren't BSA pants.
>>
>>33368150

WTF is up with those shoes? Does he have swollen diabeetus feet or something?

>most of us never had a banquet either, just said thanks for the fun times and left
I still feel like shit for what I did. My scoutmaster was old, he devoted his life to scouts and he was overjoyed to have me in the troop. He said he never had a kid like me since the 70's (when his son was in the troop) and he was like a grandfather to me. He waited eagerly for me to have my banquet so he could do a speech for me, but I got in a fight with one of the other guys and just kind of left to avoid drama (apparently I hurt him pretty bad). I got my eagle before that and left before the banquet.
>>
>>33369110
Wear zip-off REI pants, uniform pants suck huge dicks.
>>
>>33369184
Yeah, I ended up selling my uniform pants shortly after I got them and went back to my old ones. No fucking joke they are terrible, those $15 wally world pants were way more comfy.
>>
>>33369085
I made eagle before at 17, but didn't have the Court of Honor for 2 years because I went to basic right after I turned 18.

I wouldn't call it a "banquet." Just a fancier Court of Honor. Though our sponsoring Elk Lodge provided some free food because I did my Eagle project with them.
>>
>>33369212
I'm just trying to find a pair of the old BSA short shorts in my size. Imma wear the shit out of them at camp this year.
>>
>>33369232
kek, you a counselor, or adult leader?
>>
>>33369245
Assistant Scoutmaster, which makes the scout shorts dangerously close to a youth protection violation haha.

But I'm also 20 years old and short, so I could probably pass as an older youth, especially considering all the other adult leaders are in their 40s and 50s at least.
>>
>>33343257
Impossible. For the last ten years, unless you're old, there are minimum times you have to be asset each rank.
>Why would someone just go on the internet and lie.jpg
>>
>>33369295
Not impossible. Minimum time in needed for Life is 10 months with time requirements. Minimum age to join is 10 if the scout has finished 5th grade or has the Arrow of Light, which leaves plenty of time. Hell, even if the scout joins as a 12 year old, it's doable.

Difficult, but doable.
>>
>>33365110
Your friends thought marching band was cool but being a scout was dumb?

Also you can still join the army at 24 faggot.
