Does Smith still make one of the 29-series pistols with a ridiculously long barrel? My dad has an old, I think 329, that has like a 10" barrel and I have a SBH with an 8 7/8" barrel and they're both fun as shit and very accurate due to the crazy sight radius.

Hey now, sportsters are a great sized bike. Yeah you're never gonna turn one into a hawg or a cruiser but I really want one to put flat handle bars on and make into a cafe racer (at least by aesthetics).

Wouldn't get a Harley though, they're insanely overpriced for what I'd be using it for.

I'm 6'2", so any long trip for me on one is a nightmare.

not a problem on my other bikes, I've run 120 miles at a time before having to get off to refuel. Probably could have done an Ironbutt on my softail if I didn't get rained out in Iowa

ah yeah long haul they're not comfortable but not a lot of bike styles are.

Not what I'd use one for anyway, it would be a fucking-around-town bike for me.

Define cheap, because I'm not seeing anything under about $5500 with anything newer than 5 years old being over $10000. I can get a brand-new Victory Octane for $8000 OTD and it's actually a marginally bigger bike.

Polaris announced this last month, they're liquidating their inventory and keeping 10 years of parts in warehouse. I just hope they make an affordable Indian that isn't a wee baby Scout
>>
>>33337159
ah well shit.

In that case I could probably go with an Indian. I don't like their looks as much but they're good bikes and even cheaper than Victory's.

Also they do a factory "cafe racer" that looks pretty much like what I want and it's only $7500 new.

Still probably won't buy a bike any time soon, I haven't ridden in almost 20 years.

I really really want Ruger to offer the GP100 in a 5-shot .454 Casull with a 5.5-6" barrel.

I used to have a .475 Linebaugh conversion on a 5" Super Redhawk when I lived out west as bear defense and a fuckaround gun but that shit was super expensive to shoot even with cast powderpuff-tier handloads, and I sold it when I moved out of bear country. I'm hankering for another big-bore revolver and I hate the look of the Smith X-frames.
>>
>>33337320
They look rad, prices are low and I'm generally inclined towards Czechnology. I looked at French and German revolvers and reeled at the price, so the Czech one looks interesting. I'd like to see more eurovolvers anyways.

If you're a europeon, you'll be hard pressed to find a better bang for buck than a Manurhin MR-73.
Got mine for 1200 euros. Worth every penny.

It's ironic that people buy modded S&W686s so often here at the same price, simply due to more effective marketing and more exposure.

Try cocking the hammer and shooting in single action for awhile to see what your muscle memory keeps doing and maybe get some snap-caps so you can practice your trigger pull in double action. It took me a little while to find that sear in my GP100 when shooting in double action. Before I would have problems firing in double action trying to anticipate when the hammer drops and that would cause my aim to shift to the right due to my muscles tensing slightly. Took awhile to break that habit.

If you want professional help, find someone or something that will help you in a way you're comfortable with (such as firing stances, draw technique, etc.).

are new production guns as strong as the police guns from the 70s? I've read conflicting reports...
>>
>>33336457
Odds are it will never be used. If it is used, odds are you're not going to be in an extended fire fight where you need 17+1 boolits. And there are some marginal reliability benefits of a revolver. They also can't be taken out of battery because dindu is grabbing at it. It makes sense for civilians to just carry what they like. That being said, I carry a standard polymer striker fired double stack, but I can see the appeal of carrying a nice revolver.

The steel used in the frame & barrel are the same as the old ones (and is still being sourced from the same steel mill as previously since only one steel mill in France is even willing to work with the steel considering it eats tooling), but for the other internals I can't really say for sure.

The only guns Alfa Project made up until recently were blank-firing prop guns. Is it really worth taking a risk on them when their products aren't appreciably cheaper than a Ruger and do not have anywhere near the customer service in case something goes wrong.
>>
>>33337804
>when their products aren't appreciably cheaper than a Ruger
A GP100 in Canada is around $1000, and for S&W's I'm looking at $1300+. If I were an Ameribro, I'd definitely grab one of the Rugers. Being Canadian is suffering.
>>
>>33337468
theres about a 1 year backorder on them.
but you can probably find one if you're lucky.

>>33337581
>>33337615
their strength is most likely the same, would actually be awesome to do some hardness testing, would to it if i had an old mr73.

what I heard from that larvatus mr73 expert guy, was that there was some QC issues right after the transition to chapuis.
What I can say for sure, is that certain stuff is probably homogenised with chapuis production. stuff like the front sight pin, that is a rollpin on the new one, solid on the old one.
>>
>>33337826
>A GP100 in Canada is around $1000, and for S&W's I'm looking at $1300+.

It's that bad? How much does a Taurus or Charter Arms run you?
>>
>>33337494
I will agree that the cult of Harley brand loyalty is annoying and retarded, but leather has a purpose, and if you've ever dumped a bike and slid across asphalt at 45 mph, you'd know why I wear leather.
>>
>>33337954
>It's that bad?
We really pay a premium on handguns up here. Long guns aren't so bad, at least.
>How much does a Taurus
The only ones I've seen up here are Raging Bulls and trackers. RB's are still at round $1000, and I'm not interested in a .22 revolver.
>charter arms
I've never seen any around, but i'll do some searching and look into them. The thing about Canadian laws is that pistols must have a minimum of 4.2" barrel length, otherwise they're prohibited. So that (deliberately) fucks us over, when the majority of pistols have a 4" even barrel length.

>What I can say for sure, is that certain stuff is probably homogenised with chapuis production. stuff like the front sight pin, that is a rollpin on the new one, solid on the old one.

You do realize that Manurhin was primarily a series production factory and that Chapuis is literally a custom shop specialized in one-off special engraved guns, right?

They might have needed some time to learn the details of the MR-73 design, but I don't think they've done a bad job at all.
My MR-73's "roll pin" hasn't moved an inch, whereas my "solid" pin on the rear sight of my Beretta 87 Target's rear sight works itself out every 250 rounds of .22LR. So yeah, I don't quite get your "expert's" complaint. I'm thinking he's got nostalgia goggles.

Need I remind you that the original versions of the MR-73 had quite a few issues of their own and that they redesigned some rather core elements along the way to handle this. Older doesn't necessarily mean better from what I've seen.
>>
>>33338051
the problems I mention is from my own experience with my own gun. what the expert mentions are more severe, dont remember the specifics. he also states that its was just during thetransition, theyre fixed now appearently

Because they don't have the master gun smiths anymore who lived and breathed revolvers. That's a dying breed of gunsmith.

They'd be cheap MIM machining repros, just imagine modern Smiths but with worse reliability and performance.

And also something about them being expensive as fuck if they did it the right way.

Well, if you want decent quality it's going to have to be between a Smith or a Ruger.

I'd recommend the Ruger SP101 .357 with the 4 inch barrel.

That is, in my opinion the do it all revolver.

Small and thin enough to be able to be conceal carried if need be. 4 inch barrel allowing you to get the desired ballistics out of a .357 magnum

Decent triggers to start with that can always be made better if you want. And most importantly Ruger revolvers are built like Tanks and will last you a lifetime and more.

And to top it off, you can shoot .38 specials out of it as well.

Pic very related but not fully, that's the .327 version not the .357, I highly suggest you get the .357 version as a new revolver guy. Seeing as how ammo choice will be easier to aquire and you can shoot the fun and easy. 38 specials out of it.

I completely agree. This is done by assholes who want to just churn in a profit at any cost. The difference between a Lamborghini and a Lamborghini plus.

How do you guys clean the inside of your forcing cone? Specifically, the area just inside of it that's right before the rifling starts. I keep my barrel impeccably clean, but I have some crud stuck in the aforementioned forcing cone interior that is very difficult to remove.

Is there any advantage of using a revolver instead of a regular pistol?

A lot of people will probably tell you muh reliability, but that generally isn't an issue with modern automatics from reputable brands. Revolvers can definitely have their own issues that way. As far as practical advantages, they do have a couple of niche uses.

Like >>33337604 pointed out, they don't have a slide that can get grabbed by assailants or caught on things and put out of battery. For example, the S&W R8 was specifically designed at the request of SWAT teams for use by the breacher holding the ballistic shield. The operator would be trying to keep as much of himself behind the shield as possible, and this would sometimes lead an automatic's slide catching on the shield. Clearing an auto with one hand while taking fire is pretty much impossible.

In that vein, Tunnel Rats in Vietnam preferred bringing personal revolvers to the 1911's they were issued due to the same slide-catching issues in the extremely tight quarters they operated in.

So to answer your question, unless you're operating one-handed, find yourself regularly in extremely close physical contact with dangerous people, or plan on storming that one tripfag's underground tunnel complex, stick with an automatic.

Me? I'm an autist who fucking loves 70's crime movies.

*Service-sized autoloaders have similar reliability to service-sized revolvers. Small autoloaders (think the Colt Defender) are markedly inferior in reliability to small revolvers, and have only marginally better capacity.

*All of the world's most powerful handgun cartridges are for revolvers. The strongest commonly available autoloading cartridge, 10mm, is equivalent to or slightly weaker than .357 Magnum, which is, at best, a medium power revolver cartridge.

*Revolvers are simple to use. There are no slides that need to be racked, safeties that need to be disengaged, or things like slide stops or decockers. The only controls on the gun are the hammer, trigger, and cylinder release.

*Revolvers are easy to shoot as long, as long as they aren't DAO snubnoses. Even a completely new shooter with a small frame and low arm strength can get great 10 yard groups with a Smith and Wesson Model 10 and an afternoon's worth of practice.

*Revolvers are very low maintenance. Even an extremely well-made and reliable autoloader needs to be lubricated on a semi-regular basis in order to run smoothly. By contrast, any decent revolver runs fine even when bone dry and may actually suffer from impaired function if run wet. Why does this matter? Nightstand guns. A revolver can be left loaded on a nightstand for 30 years, and it will still work perfectly when its trigger is pulled as long as it's been kept in a dry place. An autoloader kept under the same conditions will probably encounter cycling issues.

*Revolvers give you great versatility in the types of loads you can run. I am not simply referring to the ability to use .45 Colt in a .454 Casull revolver or the ability to use .38 Special in a .357 Magnum; I am referring to the actual geometry and potency of the loads themselves. A revolver can use any type of bullet from wadcutters to polycase with no negative impact on its reliability, and won't become unreliable due to its ammo being too weak or too strong.

Next caliber up (.40 for .357 for example) brass brush on a straight length of cleaning rod chucked into an electric drill. After 20+ years of shooting, it's the only thing that gets barrels truly clean. Soak them with kroil (use a bore mop) before scrubbing, let sit for up to 24 hours. After the drill treatment, remove the gunk with a pull through (boresnek).

There's plenty of self defense videos where people end up struggling for the gun. This is because most threats aren't stupid enough to alert you they're a threat at long distances. In these videos you'll see much fidgeting with the gun to get it to fire, most likely due to some feeding failure because the slide got pushed back a bit, or happens to be out of battery.

Even if you free your semi auto from the assailants hand's, there's still the need to use both your hands to reliable fix the feed so you can continue to dump your bullets in him.

With a small revolver the moment you free your gun, you can unload 5 or 6 full blown +P wadcutters into this guy's chest.

The revolver shines in this CQC ability. Not to mention due to the static nature of a revolvers "feeding" system. It's still more reliable than the semis dynamic shell casing flying in and out of the gun.

Muh nightstand gun.

8 rounds of .357 mag coming out of a 5 inch finely tuned double action revolver.

I got a 629 amd I fucking love it. .44 mag's recoil is overrated so there's no reason to be afraid of it. If you can shoot .357 mag out of a snub nose, you can shoot .44 mag out of a full-sized revolver. Highly recommend.

I've loaded and shot loads listed in the book as Ruger Blackhawk only in my 25. Might as well shoot the .44 mag. The 25 with milder handloads or factory loads is way more pleasant.

You know, I bought the old style rubber grip with rose wood panels from Shop Ruger to replace the Hogue grips and instead of a stainless screw and grommet It's blued.

I mean it works out since my GP-100 is blued. but I would have preferred stainless for the corrosion resistance since it will come in contact with my hand more.

I'm also considering a stainless GP-100 and would like a matching screw like OP Pic.

Picking up a revolver on tuesday, looking for decent cheap .357 or .38 plinking ammo.

I'm looking at LAX, Freedom Munitions, Geco, and Fiocchi.
Anyone know anything about the softness of these primers?
People say that Freedom Munitions is extremely weakly loaded.
>>

Old production: Herrett grips (eBay)
>>

I only know about .38 Special, but:

*Never heard of LAX.
*Stay away from Freedom Munitions; it has extremely poor quality control.
*Geco tends to be loaded pretty hot.
*Fiocchi is solid target ammo.

As far as other brands I've tried, Blazer Brass performs similarly to Fiocchi and Magtech has the hardest primers of any ammo I've tried to date.
