What's the deal with getting a cat C on a collectors licence in Queensland? How plausible is this? Is it worth trying? As far as I've read, you can get cat C on collectors licence provided it's rendered temporarily inoperable when not in use

Yeah most do since shotguns are unobtainable to the masses.

You have to be a pretty good shot to not spoil the meat, all the antis are up in arms about it because they think it makes us super snipers.

You Aussies have some good bantz. Bretty gud 5/5.

You Aussies need to send me a magazine for my 1915 Lithgow.
>>
>>33325338
Nah we can. No pumps or semi-autos though for shooting ducks, or in general.

>>33325406
>You Aussies need to send me a magazine for my 1915 Lithgow
I have a few spares, I'll happily trade them for AR-15 magazines. My LGS is selling used USGI mags for $240 AUD (~$185USD) EACH.
>>
>>33325587
I was half joking. I imagine that shipping magazines to Aus would be a pain. I know you need a fucking license to even own or buy them.
>>
>>33325689
Nah you don't need a licence for magazines, they're effectively a tin with a spring in it.

It's importing them that's a nightmare. Anything over about 10 rounds of centerfire ammo, or anything that fits a common semi-auto will raise a lot of questions and will be seized by Customs, who will then require a bunch of bullshit. Hence low supply. It's not actually illegal to own, just almost impossible to import.

>>
>>33329261
So what's your fucking point mr goal post mover? That it died or that in your opinion it's too expensive to shoot? I shoot all the time new production .303 PPU. Besides whoever shoots cordite surplus out of their lee enfield is not a good man
>>
>>33329295
I'm just saying it's a much less popular round now than it used to be, since no new guns are being made for it and ammunition is expensive.
>>
>>33329326
Ok I ageee with that. I sure hope it never 'dies' out. I love th round and the gun shooting it too much for that
>>
>>33329440
same here. My dad has an old enfield, not sure what kind, it's a great shooter.
>>
>>33329138
No pump shotguns? Over and unders?
>>
>>33329482
most break action and lever action scattergats can be bought on a target shooting or hunting license that pretty much every one can get

Only professional wild pest controllers, professional clay target shooters and some farmers can get pump shotguns
>>
>>33329482
You can also get most semi autos if you're a professional wild pest controller
>>
>>33324474
You can have it but never shoot it, you MAY fire the gun if under supervision of proper Cat holder for the type of firearm or if you yourself hold the appropriate Cat
>>
>>33329887

How much would a no4 lee Enfield cost in Aus ?
>>
>>33329261
>70c/round for new factory .303 ammo

What a dream. It's about $1.50 a round here. Reloading can get it down to 90c with factory projectiles or 48c if I cast my own bullets.
>>
>>33325076
wrong lel, shotguns are available even on a cat A licence. Pump action and semi-auto are harder to get but you can obtain a lever-action 12 gauge with the same amount of effort it takes to get an air rifle.
>>
>>33324338

In NZ our duck season starts first weekend of May.

I feel for you guys, everyone here I know that shoots (including myself) shoots with semi autos. I'd hate to be limited even to a pump action, let alone having those restricted too.

Who would have ever thought "thank god for the adler"? Is it popular with duck shooters there?
>>
>>33333756
Anywhere from $500 to thousands of $. No.4s were never produced locally as far as I'm aware so they're more expensive than No.1s.

No.1s are (or where atleast) very cheap.
>>
>>33333853
My recent duck season went from October to January this year and Adlers were extremely popular. If I had to guess, at least a third of people I saw out there had Adlers. I used one all season.

Gun was brilliant. The weather here during duck season is extremely humid and is pisses down with rain. Everything rusts literally over night here and the adler held up very well. I was throwing mine in the mud, dragging it through water, just generally treating it like the cheap POS it is and it functioned flawlessly. Had about 4000 rounds through it now and it's starting to have some hiccups though.

I'd still much prefer a semi or a pump.
>>
>>33325713
So someone needs to start making ar mags out of their shed then
>>
fuck autistfailia
>>
>>33333889

Good to hear. Like a lot of the US guys here I want an Adler for the meme value, but from what I've gathered they're perfectly capable guns.

I shoot with a Fabarm semi auto I bought years ago, it's a good workhorse gun. Abuse the shit out of it and it's never missed a beat. I'm looking to get a pump but if I could find an 8 shot adler I'd take that instead.

Will it take 3" or 3 1/2" magnum shells? The rules here say you can't shoot lead over waterways, and steel birdshot from 2 3/4" shells just doesn't have the punch at longer ranges.
>>
>>33334011
They will shoot steel and are 3" chambers. You have to shoot non-lead/non-toxic shot here too and steel shot is fucking hot garbage. I use steel shot 3" mags here and they function fine, but will wreck your choke over time. The adler's choke thread I believe is a common thread so you can buy replacement/extended chokes very easily.
>>
>>33334073

What's the barrel length? 26" or 28"? It sounds like a pretty ideal duck gun, the lever action would only annoy me until I got quick and then it would be a lot of fun.

I wonder if I could import one from Aus.

>steel shot is fucking hot garbage

You're right there m8, I've watched steel bounce of a ducks fucking feathers. Are there any other non toxic shots which have a good weight to them? That's the problem I find with steel, even if you jump up a couple of bb sizes the shot just doesn't have the weight in flight you need.
>>
>>33325713
Depends on the state, which makes the national firearms act look like another fuckfest of irrelevancy...
At least in NSW it depends on the firearm, so when I order in some mags from overseas it'll depend on which gun and its standard capacity/type. Then there's a bit of paperwork to let customs know its coming in, my licence and they get cleared fairly easily. Needless to say, this is pretty damn annoying so if I bring some over it won't be 1-2; it'll be 10 or 20 just so I don't have to go through that level of bureaucracy too often. If you're in doubt, try talking to the cops first and to their credit they're not completely useless about knowing the legalities of importing firearm bits.

>>33331248
It basically knocks the casual shooter out of the equation and limits it to professional shooters.
There is room for more professional shooters doing pest control, but the legality, making the business and then actually making any kind of money out of it are generally 2-3 steps too far for most people to want to bother with. Hell, its an alphabet soup of licences, high level government dispensations, background checks and a whole swathe of shit you have to know about certain animals + bullet weights, gun safety etc. My Cat-C and D licences are effectively tacked onto the end of an existing business and farm, which in turn I do contract extermination for other farmers/national parks and general shit around farm with.

To say its a horrendous pain in the bum is an understatement
>>
>>33325193
No you fucking retard you can get 12 gauge lever actions, SxS and over under's on your cat A license. They're literally the easiest weapon to acquire and there's no limit on how many you can own. Stop spreading bullshit. Despite the ridiculous legislation we have, its actually relatively easy to get a cat A/B license here.

>>
>>33334073
Same here in the US, lad. Non toxic shot is federally required for all waterfowl and because steel shot is such garbage some hunters are actually using bismuth shot. It's expensive but apparently it works well.

For Qld the way it works is you can only shoot collectors license registered Cat ABCH firearms at approved collectors shoots.

Qpol plays funny games like normal and has some nonsense about not approving shoots for Cat C shotguns but will approve shoots for Cat C rifles.

Source:
I have a Cat ABCDHR collectors license in Qld.
>>
>>33334282
Its a lever release, like some of the old school gallery rifles. Basically what happens is you shoot, the gun ejects the cartridge, it then locks the bolt to the rear, to cycle the gun you push a button or lever which releases the bolt to chamber the next round.

I haven't got my hands on one so haven't done a detailed breakdown on it yet. They do look like they are gas operated.
