what happens if you press the giggleswitch but you don't have your shitbroadcasting license?

FCC shoots your doggo
>>33322680
Depends on what frequency you're on. If you're using FRS/GMRS channels, no one will give a shit and you're good to go. This being said, baofengs are illegal to use on FRS since they're more than 2 watts and have a removable antenna, but no one gives a fuck as long as you're not a twat over the radio.

Overrated post
Something I really dont get. Anyone can listen in on your conversation. Its objectively worse than a cell phone.
I assume police have full spectrum listening capabilities, and something like this can't do frequency hopping.
Here you go OP

Part 2
firechat :D
does anyone know of an adapter to convert military headsets for use in a baofeng pins?
>>33323720
something i really don't get: you'd need a friend to talk to on the other end
>>33324013
Check out airshitter stores. They make a lot of reproduction shit for going from military headsets/handsets to kenwood (baofeng plug is the same), yaesu, etc. You can also find connectors and headsets/handsets on ebay if you're lucky and cobble together something like pic related.

>more than 2 watts
>removable antenna
Holy fuck this is giving me California flashbacks to
>more than 10 rounds
>removable magazine
FCC confirmed for ATF tier
>>33325283
Goddamn that setup makes me hard.
I've an FT-857D that I'm building into a Pelican Case, I figured QRP wasn't the best thing to start out with to get up to speed with HF
>>33322367
The 8 watts is not a useful feature, especially when you're using a rubber duck antenna like the OEM or the Nagoyas too
It uses much more battery and you're just putting more crap in the air
Put the money towards a field deployable antenna like the N9TAX slim jim, that way you can cover 10 miles with ease
>>33322367
Is this available in Canada?
Amazon.ca doesn't have it listed, and I can't get Amazon.com stuff shipped up here.
>>33322360
It's one of the very few things from China that isn't garbage. Go for it.
absolutely new to radio and shit
what are the basic components i should buy to set up a comms system/network for my immediate neighborhood?
Buy the program cd if your going beofeng
also buy the long whip antenna...either 9 or 14 what ever floats your boat
>>33322360
I'll talk to you friendo. Be advised I only get about 5 miles through the woods with the "do not broadcast" antennas
>>33327288

>>33324013
Check ebay, you're going to want an amplified Kenwood 2-pin ptt. I run Peltor Comtac IIs to a F8-HP - don't get the toy soldier one, it's shit, based off the shit z-tac airsoft model, with an amp circuit added - had to replace the click switch and plug after 3 periods of use
>>33322360
I like mine, not really a radio guy, have had a great battery life (8-24 hours continuous on with only one bar lost) and operates well. Don't know if it was worth the premium over a UV-5R.
>>33327027
It depends on exactly what you want to do, but unfortunately I'd suggest a cheap shitty chinese radio to begin with.
>>33322360
i have used baofeng uv5rs pretty extensively and i suggest them.
>>33322360
Why do you need this OP?
Why would I need this OP?
>>33322680
>>33322704
How would they find you unless you are having a long conversation?
Keep your conversation brief and change your location, good no?
>>33328871
It's not that hard to track down a transmission. Just use FRS and GMRS and you'll be left alone.
>>33328884
Thanks, if I was to get one of these radios and listened to it, what would I hear? Two girls fucking? Two angry white trash doomsday preppers fucking?
I have seen these things posted on the boards a few times and never really investigated they're purpose. Are they for two way communication or what? Why not those little Motorola two rado packs they sell at the Home Depot serve your purposes?
>>33328958
More power, much much much wider frequency range.
Do your research. These are great to have in an emergency
>>33328958
you would most likely hear nothing
>>33328958
rednecks, grumpy hams, that kind of shit. Depends on where you live.
Baofengs are better than shitty FRS radios since you can do ham, FRS, receive NOAA broadcasts, police, and more. Don't waste your money on motorola FRS rigs, if anything just get a professional grade motorola. If you search enough you can get a professional motorola for not too much more than a full baofeng kit.
can u listen too mcdonalds, walmart, wendys, arbys, target ex... on these things ?
>>33322651
is this thing your life ?
Anyone here know what frequencies the Forest Service uses?
Can I use a Baofeng to hear them?
I camp innawilderness a lot and being able to hear daily weather/fire reports and lookout bantz would be awesome.
>>33329108
just go inside and talk to them you fucking autist
>>33329137
Try http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?aid=4301
>>33329119
Not these threads exactly, but I do a lot of ham shit in my free time. I'm currently working on linking some college campus repeaters in my area and have started flipping motorola parts and accessories.
>>33329108
Yes. I'm in the habit of occasionally fucking with my local mcdonalds when I get stuck in traffic.
Most of the fastfood places use 3M headsets, I forget the frequency exactly. I think walmart uses MURS channels 3 and 4. Target uses motorola vl-50s or some variant, so there's only a fixed range that they can be, which you can look up rather easily.
Btw Don't use a baofeng as a scanner. It's a really shitty scanner. If you want to scan a bunch of frequencies for signals, get an actually dedicated scanner for that.
Use the baofeng for two way communication only.
>>33324067
Yeah. Fuck. If I only had a friend. All I've got is /k/
>>33331065
Well if/when you do get a friend or two, rather than bitch & whine about how "there's nobody to talk to", do what I did. I challenged four friends to get their ham license. It's not that hard. Three of them are now licensed. The fourth "didn't have time", but assures me that this summer he will grt his license, or pay me $100.
>>33322704
Get a license. It's CHEAP. Use some of the time you waste on /k/ to study instead.
Thanks to who ever' graphic I stole!
>>33331214
It would have been beneficial to inform the users that those are MURS frequencies. The low power requirement is set by the FCC, but realistically speaking, no one is going to be measuring your 2W output.
What's the frequency of the Russia spay agency that has been broadcasting coded numbers for the past 50 years or so?
Anyone here a handmic fag, headset fag, or just pulls the radio up to talk?
Personally I love having a porkchop handmic.
>>33331789
using a remote mic will lower your chances of cataracts
otherwise recommended practice is to tip the radio so the antenna is the most distant part from your face, just like Mickey
>>33329208
What state?
I have two of these coming on Monday.
UV-5X3 5 Watt Tri-Band Radio: 130-179.99mhz (VHF), 220-225.99mhz (1.25M), 400-520.99mhz (UHF) Amateur (Ham)
Basically an easier to use UV5R with triband.
>>33332331
commiefornia
>>33332315
>fucking dears
I still can't believe there's an entire group of hams that does emergency communications for disney. I mean seriously, all the parks are set up with the newest generation of mototurbo shit, and within the parks there are shit tons of off-grid capable intercoms.
>use a remote mic
tfw occasionally use public safety mic for my motorola because muh radiation pattern so I'm fucked anyways
Additionally, I'd suggest for OP to learn about some antenna design and muck around making a few monopoles or dipoles. Made a few dipoles last year and hung them in a tall tree, had a great time, and on the 3 bands they're designed for they work just as well as some much more expensive antennas that are up on the 50ft tower.
Kind of makes me want to explore making some other kinds of antennas, desu.
>>33328958
I hear a lot of people coordinating concrete mixers, couriers, lawnmower transporters, etc. Also taxis. Pretty good actually - the taxis were enlightening, immigrants really are a bunch of lazy corrupt procrastinating bastards.
>>33325780
Yea, but there are good technical reasons for the restrictions.
>>33322360
Something I've been wondering about radios like that. How exactly would you use one to radio help if you were injured or in trouble? Do you just start yelling mayday on random frequencies and hope someone hears, or are there specific channels for contacting EMS?
>>33332783
Info like this should probably just be a pasta in every comm thread.
According to the FCC, any regular laws regarding frequency usage can be broken in the event of immediate danger to your life. This means you're free to use the ham bands, marine bands, etc. to call for help in a life threatening emergency.
Some of the simple things to begin with are Marine VHF Ch16 (monitored by coastguard worldwide), FRS/GMRS, and MURS channels. These already have pretty relaxed laws on usage, so they're a good place to attempt to contact someone who can place a 911 call for you.
Next, you can try local ham repeaters, and the 2m and 70cm calling frequencies. Simple announce "break break, this is an emergency" and people will stop to listen for your traffic. Even as a non-ham, hams will take your emergency traffic if you just explain that your life is in danger and you'd like them to relay a message to 911. The best bet is to contact hams through a local repeater and have them place a call. There have been many cases of 911 via repeater/local ham radio, and even a case of a man being stranded in the dessert and contacting a ham marine HF net and getting help that way.
>>33332899
Ch16 is monitored by stations with a system called rescue 21, depends what station but I had I think 6 antennas that could most likely get at least 50 miles inland if not 100.
Tldr coast guard will come on 16 if you are anywhere near water don't try in the middle of nevada obviously.
>>33332458
The 1.25M band (220MHz) is even more dead than the 6M band (50MHz)
>>33332899
You could also try local repeaters in case of an emergency
I also have the local public transport autobus frequency, and our coast guard also puts out weather reports on a VHF marine frequency
ARES and the Red Cross are also
Useful, if available
Aren't radio's more /g/ than /k/? Not trying to shitpost, just wondering why radio threads found a home here instead.
>tfw no big, clunky ham radio set up in the basement on a wooden table with a makarov so I can autistically live out my cold war fantasies looking for and listening to number stations
