>Be Russia
>Have several distinct branches of infantry
>Motor troops ride in BTRs, armed with 7.62x54mmR Machine Guns, 12.7x108mm, 14.5x114mm HMGs or 30x165mm Autocannons
>Armored troops ride in BMP variants, armed with 30x165mm Autocannons and ATGMs, or a 100mm Smoothbore low pressure gun and a 30x165mm Autocannon
>Airborne troops are armed with a combination of all three of these and 23x152mmB
>Internal security forces are armed with 7.62x54mmR, 12.7x108mm, and more rarely 14.5x114mm
>Ride around mostly in domestically produced trucks from the Soviet era or newer multi purpose wheeled transports build off experience gained in Chechnya, similar to MRAPs or other Western wheeled transports
>Expand internal security role to a more National Guard type role
>Need a way to upgun these transports
>Mount 30mm gun

It makes sense when you remember Russia's force is basically entirely mechanized, and they're economy can't really afford to produce huge amounts of BTR-80Ms/BTR-82s and the Bumerang will be displacing the already produced versions of the BTR-80s modern versions downward into reserves.

Plus it probably keeps a power creep for the Russian interior ministry from occuring again.

They're not the same vehicles.

VDV ride around in their own BMD vehicles actually. Tigr is actually meant for them.

>>Ride around mostly in domestically produced trucks from the Soviet era or newer multi purpose wheeled transports build off experience gained in Chechnya, similar to MRAPs or other Western wheeled transports
False. Russia doesn't operate MRAPs- the Typhoon vehicles are the first actually. Nor do they use trucks when they have shittons of BTRs.

>>Mount 30mm gun
Was already the standard for most BTR and BMP vehicles.

>It makes sense when you remember Russia's force is basically entirely mechanized, and they're economy can't really afford to produce huge amounts of BTR-80Ms/BTR-82s
They bought around a thousand modernized BTR-82A/AMs since 2010 - and they always meant those to be the stopgap similar to the T-72B3 in that they would have some of the capabilities of the next gen vehicles like the all-important net-centric fighting capabilities, and would eventually cascade down to the reserve levels. The economic downturn only meant that instead of finishing the upgrades by 2020, its pushed to 2025. I mean, duh, they are actually spending a shitton more on more expensive big ticket items like a bleeding-edge nuke arsenal and IADS, apart from recapitalizing their airforce and navy, pretty sure they can find some coin under the cushions for a next-gen ground force.

>Plus it probably keeps a power creep for the Russian interior ministry from occuring again.
?

Could very well be, as BTR-82A/AMs are produced by the hundreds each year.
