He /k/ I've got a question
I've just started getting into reloading. I've got some steel case 170gr ball 8mm Mauser and was thing a first good step into the reloading would be to see if I could make my own +p ammo
The gun I'd be using is an M-48 Yugo Mauser and the intent of these rounds is to be used in a future Wild Hog hunting trip.

Op here, forgot to mention the intended goal is for the rounds to be 5% over pressured
WTF do you mean, +P? Go by established loads, always. Besides, there's no way a proper 8mm doesn't take out a hog unless you're a shit shot.
After you know for sure what you're doing, YEARS of dedicated reloading, you can start fucking around with hot charges. But the second you start seeing shit like flat primers you back the fuck off.
>>33312151
Use 196-198gr boat tailed bullets. That's what the Yugo mauser was originally fed. Chances are that you'll find some success with it too.
>>33312268
Because I'm a poor fag using old mans reload kit and can only afford muh $300 Yugo
>>33312283
why not a nugget?
>>33312292
Tfw you don't browse /k/ enough to know these memes
>>33312151
Just jam the cases full of pistol powder, add a magnum primer and a heavy crimp. Keep your face close to the action while shooting and it should resolve the problem. A heavier bullet would be nice too, pussy.
>>33312292
>tfw we are at a point where nuggets are so artificially expensive that the mauser is a more reasonable first rifle
Don't get me wrong, I have an M48 and I love the shit out of Mausers, but I'm pretty bummed I missed out on cheap mosins
>>33312151
just load up some s.S. ball loads. its what the germans were shooting in WWII.
198 grain bullet going about 2500 feet per second. thats is PLENTY for pretty muc any animal in north america
while were talking about reloading, can i use a full length resizing die to neck size? like back the die off a turn or so and not affect the body of the case?
>>33312326
>bipod backwards
>>33312457
I don't think the "cherry" (runs inside the case neck) will reach. Probably not.
>>33312475
i have the Lee set with the decapping pin riding in a collet. i can adjust the decapping pin further down if i need to. ignoring that part, is it feasible?
>>33312446
How much power per case would that be?
>>33312513
according to Wikipedia, the s.S. ball load is a 197.5 grain bullet with a muzzle velocity of 2,493 feet per second, giving a muzzle energy of 2,727 foot/pounds
>>33312151
Just reload to WW2 German loads.
Modern commercial 8mm is underloaded for twink Mausers anyway.
>needing overpressure 8mm to kill hog
Jesus christ. Even the downloaded amerishit 8mm will kill a hog easy.
>>33312151
Yes, overpressure ammo is the best thing to fucking start out with when you're reloading. I mean the only possibly bad outcome is that you kill yourself, and how bad would that be?
Don't be a fucking idiot, especially with a reloading press.
>>33312409
>Its only Mosins that are artificially expensive
When will this fuddlore die?
