Wait a minute.

A shotgun round that shoots a sabot-ed shotgun round with a pressure nail sort of setup to hit the firing pin.

You shoot it, it hits the target, the firing pin goes off and the sabot-ed shotgun round projectile shoots back at you.

If the sabot is large enough (the round would have to be smaller, so maybe 16gauge in a 12 gauge shotgun or something) or long enough could it shoot the pellets back at you in a meaningful way?

No, any rounds require a barrel to build up pressure behind the projectile to launch it forwards. If it's just a shell on its own it'll just blow up and maybe send things in different directions but nowhere near muzzle velocity

I do, but there's youtube channels that have the craziest and best ones.
The experiments I do personally just involve factory ammo and chokes. I have one really fun factory birdshot load that holds together to the extremes to the point where it gets a bit wax sluggish feeling.
Then there's flite control wads that are glorious for turning your shotgun into a 40-50 yard + buckshot critter killers.

The biggest issue with wax bird slugs is that people didn't get the wax hot enough to properly settle and fill in the cracks.

Wouldn't it...I don't know, melt or come out squishy from the heat and pressure? I can't really see how shooting someone with a tiny candle is gonna do anything other than piss them off

The basic fiocchi birdshot loads through a choke.
Fiocchi 12gt8 and 12gt75 do roughly the same thing.
The cup petals are bonded with plastic and don't like to petal out like normal through a choke. Those bonds often aren't even broken when I find the shot cup.
It leads to 3/4 or so of the pellets holding together very tightly for a while.
